Nah, he said we were the smallest ever team in the Premier League. He thought, or was told, that we were a small club. Wagner said at some point either when he first arrived or not long after that he'd never heard of Huddersfield Town. Which I remember thinking was faintly ridiculous as I dont think you could name a German club in the top 4 tiers, especially one that had won the top flight multiple times, that I hadn't heard of. However, if you're to take his words at face value there's two conclusions to draw; 1) His knowledge of the game outside Germany wasn't very good! 2) His knowledge of HTFC came almost entirely from what he was told from above. SV Elversberg SSV Jahn Regensburg VfB Lübeck Not saying they're necessarily our equivalent but they are all 2nd and 3rd tier clubs in Germany. Not being familiar with them doesn't strike me as unreasonable.

To be fair I think wagner was saying it for 2 reasons
a) to take the pressure off the players and hope other clubs underestimate us b) big himself up
It didnt annoy me, until the club started using it as an excuse for failure

Banner at the John Smiths stadium before the game in the Premier League v Man Utd.
Town 2 Man Utd 0.
Words on the banner by David Wagner from his pre match press conference.
No one will ever convince me that the bloke didn’t Know what he was doing.

Reminds me of what Steve Kindon said on The Final Whistle VHS. "Huddersfield Town in the Fourth Division? What a nonsense". I'm too young to have seen the Buxton years, but Kindon's narration of that part of the video is so good that it brought it to life. The production quality of the video as a whole is superb and it's a shame that it's not available anywhere aside from a couple of snippets. I wonder if the rights holder would donate a copy of it to the heritage project? I would've thought the club would've put it on Youtube by now if they owned it. It's probably the most valuable secondary source regarding the club's history. The Heritage Project, to my knowledge, have had this discussion but the copyright is with Simon Normington rather than the club. Simon has put bits on YouTube but not the full thing.

Would love to see him here permanently but I don't think it will be this summer. Looks like he is (understandably) focussed on Watford and he may well get his chance.

Proved he can do it at this level, still young and improving. I'd much rather have him here than an over the hill Hoilett.

It's gonna be a weird season? New owners still to given clearance, almost there!!, at least we've got a level head in the managers seat, let's enjoy and not expect too much, if Cannuck does a prediction table, I would prob go around 15th!!.50 points ASAP then build on from there!!.

Would love to see Hungbo back if the opportunity is there mind. He's 33. Matty Pearson, a centre back, has scored 10 goals over the last 3 seasons in the Championship. Hoilett, an attacking player, has scored 6 goals over the last 3 seasons. We already have non scoring strikers at the club, we don't need uncreative, non scoring wingers to give us nothing in the final third aswell.

Love Hungbo but the negativity towards a player that has recently had 2 promotions to the premiership with Warnock is so disrespectful. Give a proven player a chance you haven’t a clue until he’s played for us so give him a bloody chance if he comes. Instead of negative vibes it’s pathetic.

I would take Hungbo in a heartbeat. I would rather not sign anyone and give Pat Jones a chance than sign Hoilett. Hungbo immediately improves our best 11, Hoilett doesn't. No need for a past it back up when we have a more than capable winger coming through the ranks.

If we’re talking about anonymous players, Karoma was a ‘loan to Portsmouth’ caliber player before Warnock told him exactly what he expects. He brought forward a player all of us would now probably be very happy to retain. Also Hoilett is a rumor thus far. But like I said earlier, if there’s a manager who can get a tune out of a 33 year old who’s down on his luck, he’s employed at this club.

I'm gonna trust Neil on this one, I've got an inkling he knows the player a bit more than you do With you on Hungbo though, great player and young enough to improve. Also really liked what i saw of Jones. I'm not sure Hoilett would be a replacement for either though, as far as I know he's a right sided wingback/attacking RB who can play a number of positions rather than an out and out winger like Jones or attacking wide player like Hungbo. Versatility is important as is experience and attitude. I guess we have to hope he's a very fit 33 as opposed to past it. Reading want to keep him which is a good sign.

Hoilett isn't an exciting signing (assuming that we bring him in), but nor was Dean Whitehead.
If he's the biggest signing we make this summer then I'll be disappointed, but when you look at the wingers we have, it's one of the few positions where we can probably afford to bulk up the squad.
Jones looks a prospect, but he's a kid with a bad run of injuries and won't be able to play every game.
Sorba Thomas - I'm optimistic that we'll get the good version of him next season but it's far from guaranteed.
Rowe couldn't get a starting berth at Stockport and looks to be in the last chance saloon.
Mahoney is terrible.
Hoilett is an experienced player and could do a job. Probably won't be expensive either.
