Hoilett isn't an exciting signing (assuming that we bring him in), but nor was Dean Whitehead. If he's the biggest signing we make this summer then I'll be disappointed, but when you look at the wingers we have, it's one of the few positions where we can probably afford to bulk up the squad. Jones looks a prospect, but he's a kid with a bad run of injuries and won't be able to play every game. Sorba Thomas - I'm optimistic that we'll get the good version of him next season but it's far from guaranteed. Rowe couldn't get a starting berth at Stockport and looks to be in the last chance saloon. Mahoney is terrible. Hoilett is an experienced player and could do a job. Probably won't be expensive either. Agree with all of that. Plus, as royrace says, gotta trust Warnock's judgement rather than blokes and ladies (and everything else) on an internet forum!

I'm gonna trust Neil on this one, I've got an inkling he knows the player a bit more than you do With you on Hungbo though, great player and young enough to improve. Also really liked what i saw of Jones. I'm not sure Hoilett would be a replacement for either though, as far as I know he's a right sided wingback/attacking RB who can play a number of positions rather than an out and out winger like Jones or attacking wide player like Hungbo. Versatility is important as is experience and attitude. I guess we have to hope he's a very fit 33 as opposed to past it. Reading want to keep him which is a good sign. How long's Hoilett been a RB/wingback ? Ince played him in that position at Reading . Great that you’re happy to slag a bloke off and cast him as gone, yet didn’t even know what position he’d been playing in for the majority of the season. Like I say give the bloke a chance if he comes and judge him on what you see. ( left wing back or right or winger)

I suspect if we get Hoilet itll be more for his dressing room influence than to play 30 games a season.
As an experienced back up RWB to Sorba I think we could do worse.
Not a thrilling signing but a useful one.....of course id rather have Hungbo.

Meant his dad Paul Ince . Facts on Jh he played last year under Paul Ince 23 times as a RWB 4 times as a LWB 0nce as a L winger and was on the bench 4 times coming on twice as wing back . He then played only twice when Ince got sacked once manergerless as a left winger and once against us under Noel Hunt as a left winger after not playing for about 8 ish games in a dead ringer. Spoke to my reading mate who said Ince played him as a wing back 27 times and twice from bench last year and said it wasn’t his natural position.

From the last few comment it’s amusing, keep peddling your bad feelings for players you haven’t a bloody clue about, it’s quite funny .?

Your other post says he wasn't any good as a RWB 🙄 I didn't suggest he'd always been a full back. I seem to remember in his Blackburn days he was a winger but I thought latterly he'd been playing deeper and as a RWB. Always been an attacking player rather than a traditional fullback. Personally he's always looked quality to me over the years and providing age isn't an issue now I think its a good signing, especially when you factor in character and versatility. I suspect he's like a lot of players and needs the right environment and manager to really shine. Hopefully we have that. Like someone said Dean Whitehead wasn't an exciting signing, nor Hudson and probably considered past it but made a very valuable contribution. On a free from a league one team too so good value no doubt. Edit: WhoScored says: Positions: Defender (Right), Midfielder (Centre, Left, Right), Forward

The lad looked a top prospect at the time, shame his career never really lived up to his early potential because he was existing to watch for a time at town.

I’d be disappointed if we sign Hoilett, at 33 yrs old, assume it be on 2 year deal.

I'm always wary of signing loan players, they seldom recreate the form of their loan spells and they usually end up as a disappointment.
Danny Ward, Paul Rachubka, Adam Hammill, Terence Kongolo and Carel Eiting are a few examples off the top of my head. Sure there'll be more.
Obviously Aaron Mooy was one that was successful, but I think he's the exception.
