A truly independent refereeing body. If we have to keep VAR, then it’s manned by qualified people who apply the rules based on the rule book, no affiliation to the refereeing groups. It can be done, but the closed shop nature of football wouldn’t even entertain an idea like that.
Stricter enforcement of fiscal rules, ideally penalties served in season if possible, or at the start of the following season if not. Don’t allow the clubs to spin these things out.
The offside rule. Why is a defender who might be down injured 30yds from play deemed to be playing someone onside, yet an attacking player is allowed to walk back from an offside position as part of the play to get their onside teammate into a scoring position, is deemed to be ‘not interfering with play’.
And just stop the cheating, book players early in the game. I’d rather see a game played properly with 15 yellow card and a couple of reds, as opposed to the cynical game we see today.

Two men on the centre spot at the kick off or a restart. One passes it forward to the other to commence the game

If you're injured and need treatment, walk off the pitch and get treatment.
If you are so badly injured that you seemingly can't walk, then you must be stretchered off and spend a minimum of 10 minutes recovering before being allowed to return (you CAN be subbed off during this time).

Think my wife's interpretation of why we got 3 points on Thursday could actually make football more interesting. She thought it was 1 point for scoring a goal, 1 point for winning the game and 1 point because we scored the last goal. If you actually gave out more points for more goals and especially a point for last goal scored it would hopefully make more entertaining games. Jesus. Man City would have the title won by October.

And I'd guess that's exactly why that rule has never been implemented.

The name Football should be changed to Soccerball. This would prevent confusion with other sports such as American Football and Rugby Football.
This would also be helpful to our new owners who possibly thought they were buying an NFL or Rugby team.

Tackles that are ‘taking a yellow for the team’ to become red cards. Stop that anti football approach of hacking down a counter attack.
Referees to be armed with pepper spray.
Goals from outside the box count double.
Yellow cards given for play acting. Even if it was a genuine foul, you can have your free kick but if you’re rolling around on the floor excessively you still get booked.

All Prem and Champ games to have a clock like they do in baseball, giving, say a minute to restart after a goal and for a corner, and 30 secs for throw ins and free kicks.

Cases of foul play to dealt with the same regardless of where they take place on the pitch or the stage or state of the game at the time. Mistimed tackle which at any other point in the game is a nailed-on yellow card, is let go because it happened in the first five minuyes. Boneheaded commentators and so-called pundits actively endorsing this kind of 'lenient' refereeing which 'preserves the game as a contest' can also feck right off.

Timekeepers.
Red card for the foul nowhere near the ball, we all know exactly what they are, so do refs.
Have to stick with 3pts and 1pt, to start having points for goals scored would change a lot of what we love about the game. The 3 points, as we have seen over the past 6 games makes a huge difference, Reading drew a load. There is a reward for winning.

Throw ins swapped for passing the ball in.
Would speed the game up and create more goal scoring situations.

make refs accountable for their actions/inactions by allowing them to be criticesed without the critiser being fined by the fa. If a ref has made a bad decision make him liable & accoutable, even allowing ref to be interviewed over decisions missed or wrongly given. no big club favouritism

A lot of what has been said plus 5 mins ‘recovery time for their own welfare’ off pitch for players that go down ‘injured’

Can’t remember if this has been discussed before, but I’m starting to come round to the idea that not every foul in the penalty area should automatically result in a penalty. I’m in a minority of one whenever I discuss this with anyone. Any thoughts on this or other rule changes? Handball rule I don’t understand anymore, and think we need to get back to being clear daylight between defender and attacker for offside calls. That's already the case. Didn't you go to Wembley last year?

2 points for a score draw and 1 for a no score draw.
Would stop playing for the 0-0.

Almost every change made since they went from goal average (which was ridiculous though helped us win our first title) to goal difference should be reversed. To name a few: Get rid of fucking squad numbers Get rid of 3 pts for a win - you should never have some league games worth less than others. Get rid of VAR Get rid of 5 subs - no more than 1 sub plus a goalie sub allowed Get rid of stupid divisional title - use 1st division, 2nd division etc
I’ll think of a few more later

Throw ins swapped for passing the ball in. Would speed the game up and create more goal scoring situations. Tried in non league a decade back - was a disaster and quickly abandoned

Early on over the top play acting..ie cheating should be a yellow card straight away. On the other side of the coin one idea that has been a really good one is the foam that refs use at free kicks, the footballing authorities got that one right. I’d also like to see linesman have the foam as well so they can indicate where to take a throw-in from.

A contract should be honored.
If a club gives a manager a 3 year deal, that manager has to stay for 3 years.
Same with a player. End of their contract, they either sign a new one or go to another club who pay X amount of compo to the other team.

Referees to only stop play when a player has a head injury not just every time a player stays down for a few seconds. I have seen numerous occasions recently - both for town and against - where when a team are under pressure and finally clear the ball they seem to have a player designated to go down, to ease pressure.

1.Interviews that aren't straight from a media training script.
2. Referees to face questions from media aswell as managers and players.
3. All games to be 3pm Sat and 7.45 Tue. None of this early/late KO. Broadcaster such as Sky, BT etc pick a game they wanna show.

I do notice that lunchtime games are getting slightly earlier (now we have 12) and evening later (now we have 815). Cannot wait till Birmingham away at 9 on a Sunday morning and Boro away at 11 on a Thursday night.

Goalkeepers not allowed to leave their box. It would lead to more chances and therefore more entertaining.
