The name Football should be changed to Soccerball. This would prevent confusion with other sports such as American Football and Rugby Football. This would also be helpful to our new owners who possibly thought they were buying an NFL or Rugby team. YUK! Only the Americans think something where you hardly kick a ball is called football. I simply don't understand any of their major games, and neither does most of the world. No relegation, hours of play due to money and adverts. When they can understand cricket, I'll give them a break. You could say the same about rugby football. There are minor leagues and college games in the US, there isn't any need or call for relegation. High level soccer revolves around money and adverts too. Outside those few countries where it is played, there is no interest in cricket anywhere in the world, there isn't solely an American disinterest. It's an acquired taste anyway. Edit to say: my suggestion that football be renamed soccerball is not a serious one. I think when Soccer AM did their Boston commentary clips with "American" commentators (which I thought were hilarious) they referred to the game as soccerball.

Throw ins swapped for passing the ball in. Would speed the game up and create more goal scoring situations. Tried in non league a decade back - was a disaster and quickly abandoned It was indeed. I remember going to a couple of games at Carshalton in the Isthmian League when they were trying out the kick-ins. The teams just used throw-ins in their own half to lump it forwards into the box. Nowadays they just use it as another opportunity to pas it back all the way to the goalkeeper.

Tell referees to actually apply the laws of the game rather than let the players get away with murder every time because they’re shit scared of them.

Defenders allowed to foul/obstruct as much as they like when ushering the ball out for a goal kick.VAR is clearly the biggest disgrace in years. Disagree with this one. If the defender isn't actively playing the ball as it runs out but actively preventing the attacker from getting to it then, in my view, they are 'impeding the progress of the attacker'. Under the Laws of the Game (Law 12) this should be an indirect free kick. I think this would help create more goal chances either through more free kicks in and around the box or alternatively defenders having to play the ball whilst under pressure. Sounds like we agree then,im saying it is something that should change.

60 minute matches, clock stops when the ball is not in play. 100% this. Instantly removes 99% of the incentive to time waste and would lead to more actual play in almost every game. Orange card for "taking one for the team" fouls, resulting in 10 mins in the sin bin, is also a great shout. Bringing back black and white offside rule. Players who go down and stop play for a head injury should have to leave the field of play for an independent concussion assessment. If they've got a genuine head injury it is a sensible safety measure and it should stop players taking the piss.

Actually book or send players off for surrounding the ref. The rules say it should happen, but very rarely does

Actually book or send players off for surrounding the ref. The rules say it should happen, but very rarely does Absolutely this. Earlier this season Jarred Gillet got in hot water from fans for actually applying the new third man ruling. The Wolves lad who was sent off was arguably unlucky, but the fact is that any player who isn't the captain (or not directly involved in the incident) shouldn't be approaching the ref.

I’d like a man in a white coat with a big basket of pork pies to walk around the ground at half time like he did on the 60s. He always seemed to sell out. Does anyone know when he stopped and why

Strict application of the ‘6 seconds’ rule for ‘Keepers to get shut of the ball once they’ve picked it up. Indirect free kick to the opposition if not adhered to.
Kick Off allowed 30 seconds after the scoring of a goal - regardless of where the players of the scoring side are at the time.
10 seconds for a throw in - direction reversed if not adhered to.
20 seconds for a goal kick - corner awarded if not adhered to. Also, goal kick to be taken from the side it goes out of play OR the opposite side if it’s quicker. No more walking across the goal to the ‘wrong’ side to waste time.
Everyone but the ‘Keeper outside the area for a goal kick again.
2 substitutes.
Fuck VAR off.
Linesmen to be called linesmen - and obliged to make a decision. No more of this waiting for the Ref to give a throw, then sticking your flag up in agreement.
Clear daylight between players for offsides. And if you’re offside when the ball’s kicked, then you’re fucking well offside.
Players to be treated whilst play goes on. They then ‘disappear’ and can’t be offside etc. When ‘fit’ to continue, they must jog off, up to the halfway line, then can come straight back on.
Any kind of arsing about when taking a penalty kick run up results in a booking and a free kick against.
It’s a contact sport - allow some.

Does anyone know when he stopped and why I remember a night match at MK Dons, where, after the match, a guy was walking along the concourse selling pies at half price.

I would really like to see the end of loan signings. The likes of the big premiership teams signing every promising young player on over inflated contracts most lower league clubs cannot match in the hope of getting the one great. Knowing they can recoup some cash later by loaning players out and hoping they will be good enough to sell at over inflated prices and therefore make a profit on players without any risk. Would town have been able to develop say Frankie if the system had existed in the sixties for example or would he have been one of hundreds at old Trafford

If you're making a sub, the sub goes straight onto the field and doesn't have to wait for the subbed player to reach the sideline. Instantly speeds the time taken for a sub up.
If a game goes to extra time, any yellows in the first half of the 90 are wiped.

In a game involving a penalty shoot-out, a red card during the game counts as a missed penalty.

If a players bootlace snaps his team should forfeit the game 3-0.

Like rugby, if players don't move 10yards from the Free Kick move the free kick forward 10 yards. I possibly imagined it, but didn’t we try that for a season and it was rubbish?

Return to the rule where goal kicks must to taken on the side the ball went out of play on and goal kicks must clear the penalty box. It’d stop most of the fannying around we see all the time now at goal kicks.

If they've got a genuine head injury it is a sensible safety measure and it should stop players taking the piss. The premise of VAR is wrong. VAR should protect the integrity of the game. Ensure the team are awarded the correct call. The VAR panel should be former professional players. VAR should not be about the official, except for retraining and or demotion. Clock stops until restart by a touch from an infield player. A free kick into touch does not start the clock. 20-25 minute halves with a clock, each half would last about a hour (see ice hockey - 3 x 20 minute periods plus two intermissions - fans 'bum in the seats time' around 3 1/2 hours) I like the idea of the injured player leaves the field for treatment, along with the the penalized opponent. Squad sizes reduced equally across the board, including youth and B team. Corners and free kicks. The number of players allowed in the box should be set by the possession team. If they put 3 in the box, only 3 defenders can match up until the ball becomes live by an infield touch. No offside on the free kick.

It’d stop most of the fannying around we see all the time now at goal kicks. The funny thing is when that rule was changed (when the PL came in?) - the premise was to STOP time-wasting tactics! It does only seem to be in the last 10 years or so that its become a time wasting tactic/art of its own though - I don't remember it being an issue at all prior to that?

Shocking Keep VAR but put former players in there who actually understand the game I said when they brought it in, it was purely to give every opportunity at both ends of the field to give/deny goals in favour of the big clubs. It’s a disgrace. The PL are a disgrace.

All players to be 10 yds from the corner taker. Will reduce all the messing around, trying to kill time in the corner, at the end of games.

Back to man of the match instead of player of the match, of course in the womens game use something else. This might sound ridiculous but I'm sure I saw something about this. Someone basically copyrighted the term 'man of the match' and so nobody else could use it without prior permission/paying the guy, hence the change to player of the match. Happy to be told I'm wrong, but I'm sure I've seen that somewhere before.
