It's not Ward's fault NW picks him...as a striker he has very few of the attributes needed...he's no good in the air, seldom holds up the ball and doesn't score goals..but NW uses him for his chasing down..He's a box player tbh,bit like Rhodes is, .he does have a shot and can at times win a header in the box through his positional play but outside the box we need someone else , physically bigger and stronger to receive an out ball . At the moment our out balls just keep coming straight back, which is why we spend long periods deep in our own half under pressure..especially as we use wing backs who don't offer an outlet either because they have defensive duties. Ward isn't a bad player but for me either needs someone next to him, or to play in a lower less demanding league.

Decent performance to be honest, think a few town fans are overreacting about how we played, but each to their own. However, Ward is shite, provides absolutely nothing to the team He's not shite is he? That goal v Sheff Utd for example. How long does he get to dine out on that goal? 🤔

Maybe Ward would score more goals in a better team, seems to be getting quite a bit of unfair criticism, Warnock likes him cos he does what hes told.

Thought Ruffels had one of his best games yesterday after having watched the game back on ifollow. Some crucial tackles.

You mean like a team that was in the top 3 in the form table over the final 10 games of last season? Since Warnock came back Ward has played the majority of games but scored only two. Harratt has scored as many in the few minutes he's had on the pitch playing the same position in the same team. All this 'Warnock doesn't use him to score goals' is nonsense. He's a striker, his main job is to score and/or create goals, he does neither. But it's OK because he closes the opposition down. Hopefully we get a proper striker in before the window closes.

Warnock comes in and all of a sudden he starts showing what sort of a player he is and why we signed him in first place. Just been nice to be watching a well coached team again since Warnock came back in.

Interesting…
Question - anyone else, when they post tweets, just get the URL link now like above rather than it inputting the actual tweet for everyone to see? Did it to me yesterday as well 🤔

Isn't that the bare minimum for a fucking footballer?

Isn't that the bare minimum for a fucking footballer? Exactly. One of the best I have seen would be Lee Novak. Now he was brilliant at running and chasing, but actually contributed heavily too. If we could get someone of that ilk, of a championship standard, that would be perfect for this team.

Novak scored a goal every 4.2 games for Town. Danny Ward (this spell): 4.75 Not much difference - except, of course, for some of the 70-odd goals Novak helped Rhodes to score over the same period

The effort and commitment could not be faulted in any way yesterday, in fact I couldn't find fault in any of the games so far.
I thought we were well worth the point and had we pressed home the advantage in the period after scoring I'm sure we would have won.
I believe that NW and the players have a spirit and I don't expect to see them drop below the level of effort shown so far. However I do think we will need more quality to be not looking over our shoulders all season. I have said before I think our significant weakness is centre midfield. We need someone who can control the game and hold the ball. If we can get someone with that ability, perhaps on loan from a Premier League club, I think we can push on. Fail to address that and it will be a battle, a battle we might be up for but a battle none the less.
Re the Ward debate. What I can't fathom is why we play balls for him to head. He hardly wins a header and if does who is he heading it onto? (no one runs behind him). In the 2nd half the ball was played into his feet and he held it up and used it well. For me it once again highlights the lack of quality we have. Have an option of someone who can take, hold and use the ball in the midfield then the high punt to Ward becomes less of an option.
I hope we are still looking to add to the squad.

Ward was good in the play off season under Corberan - 14 goals in a championship season under a good coach suggests he isn't shite. 5 goals in a poor team, coached for most of the season by 2 really poor coaches is also ok. That a coach of Warnock's ability & experience also believes in Ward also tends to suggest there's a player in there. And to be fair I'd have more confidence in him finding the back of the net than either Diarra or Rudoni

If thats your opinion then fair enough mate, but i dont know what you or warnock sees in him 🤷🏻 Do you not think Hudlin or Harrat would do a better job up top ?

Its also a myth that Rhodes can't play the loan striker role as he proved last season. He's better in the air than Ward and his hold up/lay off play is also better.

On the Ward debate, his off the ball movement is actually good. He wins quite a few headers as well, often when he drops deep off the centre half.
But his movement isn’t into places that really hurt the opposition. It’s not across his defender into the six yard box or in behind the centre backs in open play. He’s not strong or fast enough for that so it’s in front of centre halves. That’s what we need. Harratt has the instincts to do it so while he’s here (not loaned out) he should be getting at least half an hour to show what he can do.
What Ward did well 2 seasons ago was drop off the centre backs for a ball into feet at exactly the time the centre halves could play the ball, an obvious drill they practiced, something we’ve not been doing this season.
