There do appear to be two schools of thought when it comes to centre forwards:
* Those that judge on goals alone (who frequently dismiss the other parts of the modern striker's game).
* Those who are willing to forgive a low scoring tally if they bring a lot else to the side.
I'll admit I'm more in the second camp.
I'm fine with us being a side that platforms the striker and they get the majority of the goals, if we're winning. If the striker that does nowt but score, scores a lot then great. Few of us were complaining about Jordan Rhodes in the 2011/12 season! That striker that scores 30+ goals in a season ain't likely to come cheap though, and even if you can get one, you need a strong squad around them to give them the platform they need to get those goals. We're on a tight budget. Can we afford to not only bring in "the next Jordan Rhodes" but also the creative midfielders and wingers required to give him the service he needs to get all those goals?
Probably more cost effective to get goals from all over the place. Remember that year that Cardiff won the title and their top scorer had 9?
FWIW I can see Kian Harratt potentially being that striker worth platforming in a couple of years. Great movement, great finisher. All the more reason then, to focus on building that platform so that he can succeed when the time comes.
Ward is underappreciated by many.
