I'm curious as to why we think he will come good? He's not a fresh behind the ears player breaking through. He's youngish, but he's played 180+ games, and has never played in a team that have finished higher than Town...even last season when we were diabolical. He's more likely at his level already - which is, if you have to regularly rely on a player like Wiles in a pretty key position, you're going to finish bottom 4 of the Championship 🤷♂️ "we" might not. I do. He has all of the attributes. He's coming back from a big injury, and has had another injury this season. He's played for two managers this season, in various positions without a settled team around him, in various systems, in a team that has not been playing well. I am confident that, if played in a consistent (i.e. settled) side and system and at full fitness, he'll settle. We need to stop judging new signings as successes or failures so quickly. If we'd judged Sorba on half a season he'd have been written off before being one of the major contributors to our play off final season under Carlos. Similarly, we wrote him off last season, now look at him. Fuck, as a group of fans we wrote Phil Billing off as lazy and ineffective. Now look at him. Give. Him. Time. We need to stop scapegoating individuals so much. Yesterday we were lauding Spencer and Matos based on 45 minutes. They may prove to justify that long term, or not. But I also saw REG and Wiles getting singled out. REG was playing at CB (when this season he's barely played there) against an attack featuring Grealish, Foden and others. Ridiculous. Wiles was up against a world class midfield, and got panned for his performance. Ridiculous. Billing is a pertinent reminder that some people have no clue what they are talking about, he’s absolutely flourished.

The biggest thing wiles could do is just up the effort, things may still not go his way, but you make your own luck and play yourself back into form. That process is quicker if you give it 100% and then try and exceed that. I think he will be a good signing, but next season by the looks of things, looks like he has the world on his shoulders at the moment. Maybe some quality additions around him will take the pressure off and let him focus on himself a little. Amazed at any suggestion of a lack of effort on his part, TBH I would say that's his main issue with fans. Loses the ball and just stops, obvious run and doesn't make it. Pulls out of every 50/50 and even 70/30s in his direction. I'm with you. Think he will become a good player. He's playing so should be close to 100% effort. He's obviously crocked, injured or unfit, so maybe he is giving 100% of the 80% he has available.

This theory about him being injured. It would be nice if the club made such a statement about this.
It’s not as if the coaching outfits at other clubs won’t be able to work this one out anyway. We won’t be giving up any trade secrets by saying he’s struggling with a niggly injury.
Hopefully he’ll get rested if we bring another player or two in. It’ll take a bit of pressure off him, and also might allow him to be introduced as a sub and see if he’s able to give 100% for 20-25 mins, instead of having to manage things from the first minute of every game…

I'd like another striker and a right winger as well, but for me another central midfielder would be hugely beneficial. Partly for this reason. Give BW a chance to get himself right and then fight his way back into the side.

If you go on Rotherham fans forum and speak to any of their fans (who we met on the train a few weeks ago) they are gutted that he left. Perhaps his injury was more serious than we thought, perhaps there are emotional/health issues as part of his recovery. Whatever give the lad a break, he doesn’t become a crap player overnight. A few have said take him out of the firing line and start his preseason now. Perhaps the injury took more out of him than we think.

We hope that we missed his injury situation so that we can get him fit, but we hope that this is not another miss by our procurement team because there has been too many of them in the past.

Much, much better today. The type of performance of the player I thought we'd signed. Still needs to work hard to be considered a regular though.

Best game in a town shirt today. Did he just need a rest? Post match interview was interesting - said how he wanted to prove he could still positively influence a game.

Seemed to me that his sub-par performances here to date have stung him. A long way to go yet, but a great attitude.

Always shown little bits like iv said before…but uninfluential(is that a word) Confidence very much probably lacking coming off an injury and into a new club who have gone backwards since the end of last season. Personally feel like need to find a role for him in the side, some will disagree but he does have a pass in him at times. Hopefully he can hit form…I don’t think the next one is the one for that though 😂😬

His best performance yesterday; albeit from a very, very low benchmark.
Having said that, if Sorba had finished off that chance at 0-0 when wiles turned and curled the ball into the box we would've been gushing at his input.
Seem like in the interview he acknowledges he performance thus far. Can only get better from here for him - we need a creative player in the middle as I don't think Rudoni offers that and seems a little injury prone.

Rudoni injury prone is harsh, played every game last season and has played the majority of this seasons

Thought Rudoni had been pretty mush ever present. He missed yesterday through illness, as did Kasumu.

Wiles was really good yesterday. Came on, made an impact and we pretty much bossed the game from that moment onwards, when Wednesday had just taken a foothold.
Loomed happy, positive and played well. Pat on the back for him. Hopefully he stays fit and stays positive.

He still looks unfit to me. He has bursts of involvement and then he's stood blowing like a 40 a day smoker who has just attempted their first 5k.
Clearly got ability but I'm not convinced he's over the injuries he had prior to joining us

The same Rudoni that didn't miss a game last season? He was ill. Nothing more.

DATM Jumping straight on the after thought of the post..literally the last 3 words and ignoring the point of the post.. Rudoni missed 1/3 of our league games this season for whatever reason.

Going by yesterday he could almost be considered a new January signing because he’d contributed nothing previously. Very pleased for the lad and I hope it’s a sign of a renaissance in his career.

I'd definitely start with Wiles in that position next match. Lovely awareness and well executed pass for the second goal.

Just seen his pass again on the ITV Highlights - brilliant. I’ve always thought he looked a good player but yesterday he showed what he’s capable of. Really pleased for him.

Leon Wobschall has given Wiles an 8 for yesterday. Mentions that the player has come of age.
