Always loved DW. He gets some flack from some fans which i've never fully understood? Some folk forget how pivotal he was in getting us promoted in 2012. Mostly because over an extended period he's generally been pretty rubbish as a player who is primarily there to score goals given he doesn't really do much else. Definite respect for what he's done in the past, but we wouldn't be putting Iwan Roberts up front and saying, "its ok that he's garbage, he was good for us 30 years ago" ! It might not read like it above, but I do like him as a footballer, he's got good technique and is an athlete, and no doubt still has the ability to shine even at age 33, IN THE RIGHT TEAM. We're yet to see how AB sets things up moving forwards, but "the right team" for Danny Ward has certainly not been Hudds Town this last 3 seasons.

Fit again.. Confidence high.. Got to start v. The dirties.. 🍻 In the 5-1 defeat at Beeston 10 years ago Danny should of had a 1st half hat trick but only scored one missing many others, the recently discarded scot (at Liversedge) on the other side bagged 3 of his 4 chances......Showed last week he's more clinical something the Blades too found out with a beauty when it mattered.

Mostly agree, but I thought he was excellent in the playoff season, very unexpectedly so as he looked useless in his first season back, on the rare occasions he was fit. He led the line brilliantly, worked his socks off for the team, and scored plenty. His all round performances against Blackburn and Reading that season were among the best I've seen from a Town striker. That was definitely his peak though, he's too old to get back to that level. Should've left on the high of that super goal against the Blunts to keep us up. Would be ace if he can turn back the clock a couple more times before the end of the season like he did at Watford. Needs to go at the end of the season though

Surprised Darren has announced one of the team so early in such an important match.

I would start him. Having Ward close down and hassle Meslier at every opportunity will lead to a chance or two guaranteed.

Scores two goals and all of a sudden he’s god, forgetting the years of shite seems so easy.

Ward starting makes you wonder who we're without. I hope Burgzorg isn't injured

Scores two goals and all of a sudden he’s god, forgetting the years of shite seems so easy. Firstly, precisely zero people have said anything like that Secondly, with the potential that Burgzorg is out or not ready to start, who would you play up front as an alternative to a guy just back from injury who’s just scored 2 in half an hour to win us a game?

We could just stick Pearson up front for the first half and then bring Burgzorg on at half time and Pearson can go back to pocketing Summerville

Anyone notice the tackle at the end of the first half when Leeds were countering. Unbelievable.

Genuine question.

Harsh...he might have been indifferent, but surely not "years of shite" Fair point, he’s been decent in at least 5 games, but not nearly enough to be celebrated. I take your point, thus I suggest years of below average and injured might be more appropriate.

Look, I know it might be controversial, but how many of us tonight thought, if only for a moment, whether Danny The Goal Machine Ward could REALLY be worse than two of the "forwards" who wore a Town shirt tonight?
Just sayin'

As his biggest fan on here even I have to admit that Wardy is now in the twilight of his career. We should have recruited a younger, more pacier striker in the summer but as usual we are left short. I would give Bojan a few games to see what he’s made of.

Not our answer. Should’ve gone last season with quite a few others.
Won’t be long until he’s injured anyway.
