Be absolute outrage amongst the fan base if Helik was sold in this window. I could see him going to one of the clubs newly promoted to the Prem during the summer, but surely KN isn't daft enough to sell at this stage.

How much is he worth do we think in a January window? Good job DH not still in charge or he would be gone for £2m

Immense.
Can't believe I doubted him after his first couple of games.

Best centre back in this league by a country mile IMO. Don't sell for less than 15 million, that's at least his value to us. We sell him and we go down in my opinion.

28 now, you wouldn’t bemoan him if the Premier League came calling in the Summer (which he quite frankly deserves), but selling in January would be the nail in the coffin.

Absolute class. A snip at whatever we paid but agree, if a promoted club came in for him and offered the right brass, we couldn’t stand in his way. I would imagine KN would say we need him for next seasons (hopefully) Championship title push!

It wouldn’t surprise me if he left. You’d think that a number of teams in and around the playoffs would be looking at him. He’s contracted till the end of next season, with a 1 year option. So you’d like to hope that we can keep hold of him this month

I did post on here the other day I heard from a very reputable source we were in for a central defender who I felt was very unrealistic based on price/age/calibre.
Putting 2 and 2 together, if the Leicester rumour in for Helik was true then the sums of money we’re talking about would likely be more realistic to replace with the guy I’m talking about.
Certainly not fact. Just a theory. Im rarely ITK and can’t share name before the keyboard warriors who’ll no doubt criticise.
Just don’t want to lose my source

On the rumour mill Leicester City are sounding out Helik with Barnsley fans wanting to know if they have a sell on clause if true. We need to build a team with him in it. Should be given a new contract and the captains arm band, imo Be amazed if we sold him.Think the only way it happens is if he forces it or the fee is utterly ridiculous! Should we stay up I’d hope not only do we not sell in the summer but we tie him down to a new contract.

If we got enough for Helik to cover (1) all our spending so far this window, (2) to buy a creative midfielder and another centre-back and (3) to pay off DM and his boys, would it get your vote?
In 1987-88 Leeds offered us a choice of two out of three of their centre-backs, including Neil Aspin ( - can't remember the others) in a swap for Duncan Shearer. Steve Smith turned them down. Shearer didn't score at his usual rate and we shipped 100 goals.
If Helik stays, I trust he will be well swaddled in cotton wool.

Interesting one this. I’ve not heard exactly how much we’ve supposedly been offered for him. Assuming it’s over £5m. If Kev’s going to use the cash to buy a championship standard central midfielder, it might not be the worst business we’ve ever done. He’s our standout player (easily), because our defence is consistently under so much pressure. I can’t help but think we wouldn’t have such a reliance on him, if our midfield was significantly improved. It would be a shame to see him go though, especially if we don’t reinvest and he goes and sits on someone else’s bench for the rest of the season. It will be interesting to see this unfold.
Best case scenario is that we sign the midfielder now, stay up, then cash in on Helik in the summer

If the rumour is true it’s got to be some bloody offer! All the above obviously subject to actually staying in the division 😬

I’m more confident Nagle would spend some decent money getting a replacement in though

If someone is prepared to pay very big money for a player who is one of the championships best centre backs it might make sense in the summer. The fee could bring in a replacement and improve the squad in other areas.
Definitely not in January though.
If it's not very big money keep him. Hopefully the days of selling players as soon as we get an offer are over.

If Helik was sold this month much of the good work done this month would be dissipated. I hope it isn't true but....
We couldn't spend in the summer due to the, what I believe are the new, FFI rules. If we had a budget and we have spent this month might it be true we need to balance the books right now to meet that commitment to FFI? NB: I am not saying I am correct, just applying some logic.
If we had to sell to balance our accounts Helik is the last man I would want to see go right now. Perhaps someone will kill this rumour from within the club asap?

Although he’s the one player we can’t afford to lose, he’s the only player we could command a substantial fee for (maybe Sorba is the only other). So if we do need to balance the books then we haven’t got much choice, hopefully that’s not the case. I think we’ll end up selling him in the summer which would make a lot more sense as we’d have time to replace him. Selling now would be a hammer blow to our survival chances and I think (hope) the club will realise that.
