Balker looks like a great signing. Looking forward to getting Helik back and having these two as a pairing.
To me Lees is looking increasingly more error prone and he and pearsons distribution is often poor. Great signings during a long period of austerity and still good backups but if we're playing a flat 4 I think it would likely be Spencer, Helik, Balker and Headley.

Headley is becoming the latest player to be better and better the longer it is since he played.

Balker is the best non attacking signing we've EVER made IMO. He's better than Zanka, Hefele & Schindler, could walk into most PL teams - absolute dream of a defender, the kind that turns up from nowhere at Liverpool for Ā£35m and everyone goes, "huh" and then 3 months later he's a Ā£70m player.

Bit early for OTT stuff like this. He's looked good. But let's not get all giddy.

Got to embrace this stuff when it happens, otherwise you spend all your time trying to justify that for example Phil Billing is shit whilst he manoeuvres his way towards getting a Ā£15m move to the PL just because he had a few dodgy performances in amongst early on. Thats the way to misery.

Looks like weāve got a great player on our hands but no championship defender would āwalk into most premier league teamsā. The difference in the strikers at that level is crazy, as we found out when we went up.

What does Phil Billing have to do with this?

Poster claims Balker is the best Defender we've ever signed and posts it in a thread about another Town Defender.

To be fair, many on here said similar thinks about Rob Pageā¦ In fairness, Rob Page was very good when we got him. Exactly what we needed. Goodness knows why he didn't get offered a contract that summer. Actually, I just remembered who the manager was. Which probably answers my question.

Balker looks really, really good. Based upon what we've seen so far, it's a wonder that one of the top clubs in Holland didn't sign him. However, Van Dijk went to Celtic direct from one of the lesser clubs over there with very little fanfare. Not saying that our guy is anywhere near his standard, but it shows that there are bargains to be had if you look a bit left field.

We need him back & as for Lees & Hogg they need to step back now & become solid back up players.

Anyone know when Helik is due back? whenever our rubbish medical team deam it so , thats what he said yesterday. Nagle really has to look at both the medical and s and c side of the club in the summer. the amount of injuries and how long it takes to recover is beyond a joke.

I'm not sure who was behind the Balker signing because it can't have been Moore either. In much the same way as Cartwright sacked Warnock and brought in Moore, but had nothing whatsoever to do with bringing in Breitenreiter. Unless Breitenreiter turns out to be shit, in which case it was all Cartwright's fault.

You must have seen something I've missed, or you're making a judgement a lot earlier than I would. Best signing of this season? I'd go along with that - but I don't think he's the best defender at the club. The best one is named on the title of this thread. At the moment I'd probably rate Spencer ahead of Balker too. As for Schindler - best defender we've had since I became a fan in 1987.
