It is true - it did happen. Warnock even said in an interview he wouldn’t take on the role unless he was given full control of recruitment and he even went as far as saying that was happening, in interview. And Cartwright alludes to it. They identified players, but Warnock drafted his own list. Players ‘he could trust’. His ‘type’. To paraphrase him. He wanted to conduct contract negotiations. Which was fun. The error on the standing teams part was agreeing to this level of control. It went far beyond what they had anticipated. They didn’t expect Warnock to ride roughshod over them and to be so combative - especially in a temporary role. But Lord Warnock thought he knew best. However the game and business has moved on. teams in demand expect more; detailed plans drawn up, tactics and roles explained. Remember Bromby talking about signing some of the players with Carlos? It was error of judgement on both parts because Warnock overestimated his own name and clubs and players were put off by his persona and his reputation. There were also players that Warnock didn’t feel were worth the cash, even though the club was willing to spend it. He was high on his own success and king of the club. He could do anything - he was untouchable. And he thought the new owners knew nothing. It was a fatal error, one which would contribute to his downfall coming much sooner than he had anticipated. He had lost sight of his purpose and by the time he had shown / communicated he was tired and maybe shouldn’t have signed up to another year, during the international break, they stepped up. Some folks will just never hear a bad word said of Colin. And that doesn’t mean DM is a yes man. He’s just willing to work with the system and allow others to do their jobs. Wow...how is it fantasy land at the moment? What a load of codswallop. You have embellished this beyond belief. I really don't see how this is fantasy land when the majority of the post is the truth. Whether you want to believe it or not. Warnock at every club has always wanted his say on transfers etc. Why would that be any different now? Especially when he is a saviour, he held the cards and the powers gave him his hand; everyone wanted him back, he could basically demand anything and get it given. Unfortunately, Warnock 'interfeered' more than they thought was agreed and vice versa. Then we employ some absolute wet drip and because things aren't great, this debate continues. It always will now when things aren't going great.

KN employs someone to do a job and when the results of the summer window is crap we find out Cartwright is washing his hands of any involvement. These so called leaks comming out of the club blaming Warnock for everything just does not ring true. He was at the club and would have had an involvement but those left had a hand in this as well. If all you say is true then Cartwright and co should be sacked for not having the balls to stand up to him straight away, that is along with Warnock. I don't claim an inside track on information so this leaking of information after the mess that was made when they got rid of Warnock appears like little boys making excuses. If there is/was an issue it should be either kept secret or brought out into the open not leaked to some posters on an internet forum to excuse themselves from the mess.

More importantly, signed and ready to go for Jan 2nd. No excuses for us not having at least 1 or 2 ready to go then...

Completely agree, we should have players signed ready to go on new years day But we won't, we'll huff and puff throughout January but in the end we won't quite be able to get the signings over the line.

Billy Sharp is at the end of his career and therefore any offer now will do. Most players and their agents won't commit in early January. They'll play the waiting game and hope a better offer comes in.

And if we had signed him we would be asking where the ambition was in signing a 37 year old

If we're looking at experienced attackers in the MLS I'd be trying to tie Carlos Vela down to a deal until the end of the season. Out of contract at LAFC, 34 years old but still quality.

Completely agree, we should have players signed ready to go on new years day I got mocked on this thread a few days back for having the audacity to suggest such a thing! I think most people on DATM expect that those behind our transfers should sit on their hands until Jan 1st and then begin to assess what we need

Assessing what we need before January, Yes, but getting deals done and players signed on Jan 1st unlikely as any decent player who is available will more than likely have more than 1 club interested in him. Its going to be a very hard sell persuading a player to come here at the moment

Heard we’re signing Devante Cole in Barnsley this evening… So a month ago he was somebody you'd like us to sign, now he's someone you've 'heard' we're now signing? 🤔

Certainly looked the business when we played them at home last season.

Even a loan to end of contract... whether or not he has signed again with Blades - he'd be a useful asset for six months!

I am not sure that at 28 you can call him a prospect, but it would make him the youngest first team striker we have signed for some time.

So we need a midfielder who can pass. A creative midfielder who can get the the ball from a midfielder who can pass and can then create chances for our striker. A striker who can score chances created by the creative midfielder who can get the ball from a midfielder who can pass.
Simple.

A striker who can score chances created by the creative midfielder who can get the ball from a midfielder who can pass. Simple. Also, we need either 2 proper full backs, or if God forbid Moore still remains as manager and insists on playing 5-3-2/3-5-2. We need 2 bionic wing backs who can run up and down the wings defending and attacking on their own each and every game.
