I can kind of see why Mowbray has gone. Sunderland have spent a lot of money, they're a big club and they want to be back at the top table. The team I saw play us last week doesn't have a hope of going up. I think it's acknowledged that Mowbray is a decent manager, but he does seem to have a limit in terms of what he's capable of achieving. He's now been let go by various clubs after a few seasons of moderate success, which is probably quite telling. They haven't spend that much in relation to those they'll want to be competing with: www.transfermarkt.co.uk/championship/transfers/wettbewerb/GB2Plus they've apparently got one of the lowest wage bills in the league: www.planetfootball.com/quick-reads/championship-wage-bills-2023-24-leeds-leicester-southamptonThis is also only their second season in the second tier after 4 years in League One, and losing Amad and Stewart this season as well. He got them in the playoffs in his first season. Seemingly a behind the scenes disagreement with the board, and they were weirdly randomly linked with an Italian manager in the summer (who is currently doing an excellent job at Nice), so it never did feel like a long term relationship, and not a huge shock, even if a bit harsh: www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2023/12/04/tony-mowbray-sacked-next-sunderland-manager-board-owners/It'll be interesting to see who they bring in next. I reckon it'll be a little known (to the general UK fan) overseas appointment.

Just watched the extended highlights. Looks like they’ve lost the footage of all of our chances that was referred to by the guy interviewing Moore post match…..
