I very rarely post but can’t let that one go. Hogg has been great but Jimmy Nicholson cost £7500 I think and was streets ahead of Hogg imho Before my time was Nicholson so cant comment on him, but id always thought he was more of an attacking midfielder with mcGill playing the tenacious 'ratter' role that Hogg does? Have I got that wrong, it was a few years before I started going? Quite similar records . Nicholson was here 10 years and almost entirely in 2nd tier except 2 season in top flight...same as Hogg. Not sure how £7500 in 1963 compares to the fee we paid for Hogg in 2013 ( £400k ??) in terms of expense for the club. the quality of the football has moved on so much from the 60s and 70s , as have the pitches, I dont think its fair to compare players ability wise. But I think iwhen you consider the sums of money that get thrown about these days, then what we spent on Hogg and the fact hes been practically the first name on the team sheet for over 10 years, under lots of different managers, makes him a real stand out player over the decades for this club. BoE calculator shows it about 100k in 2013. But 'football inflation' has been a bit different through the years.

Jimmy Nich Jimmy Nich Get of your back and score for Town Don't let them down. Something Hoggy has rarely done For those who don't know it was to the tune of 'Grocer Jack' & many a Town fan claimed to having started the song. Jimmy (Nich) surprised Jimmy (McGill) & many others when he turned up in the Crown for his (JM) 65th a few years ago, also Bobby Campbell was present & some great stories came out that day.......Like Hoggy, Jimmy Nic (80) is still going strong, both would be in my all-time 11 & great servants/captains of Town, wouldn't like to put a number of skippers between them, but its a lot.

You are right that they are totally different players. Jimmy Nich was closer to Mooy, the midfield orchestrator, looked after the ball, wonderful passer, explosive shot often from distance, but it must be said that the ball did the work (no-one ever said about him that it was like playing with a dog). He came to Town with a bad back and needed frequent injections in it, which partly explains the modest transfer fee. Greaves preferred Steve Smith just a few games into the 1971-72 season and played Nich as a central defender in the 1972-73 season, a sure sign that he was slowing down. Smithy had a testimonial (against Leeds) but Nich just missed out. Chopper (McGill) was indeed the ratter. We unaccountably sold him to Hull, replaced him with with Terry Dolan, #yetanotherdreadfuldecision, and fell to shit almost immediately. [I've just realised that I'm now a Jimmy Nicholson Terrier.]

Jimmy was the player of the Home Internationals one year, playing for Northern Ireland while he was at Town. A feat that I don't think we will see replicated by another Town player (if they were still being played that is). Nicholson was a much better footballer who could shoot from anywhere (and hit the target) a better comparison might be chopper McGill. Wouldn't have played 10 minutes a game in these enlightened days

Can we get back to the point please. This is a guy who has given 10 years + to the cause, always committed, always gives 100%. Nothing to do whether previous players were better or not. Certainly don’t get some of the negativity.

Not that he'd ever write one, but the guy whos book id really like to read would be Brooky the kitman's! Real fly on the wall stuff. Now that would be an interesting read.

Usually has one his better games v home town Middlesbrough too, last Xmas/NY we were heading for a full house of 9 points out of 9 then Hoggy went off when 1-0 up v Luton we fell apart.....After Friday possibly rest him at Leicester & City with PA, QPR & SW to play early NY.

Proud that after his display yesterday, the Blackburn fans will have seen Hoggy staring at them as they left the ground. Great credit to the club for getting this done.

If they're going to do stuff like that they should let the fans know when they go and get their tickets because although there's probably little point going anyway they might not like to spend £35 quid on a ticket plus travel, extras etc to see a spanking.

"The General" is quite a fitting name...
He's had one or two Buster Keaton moments earlier in the season.
(This is a joke, before anyone gets arsey about it)

I love how its a couple of pictures of him playing for us in about 10 years time as an old man! Really poor quality in comparison to the Thrice Champions mural, but I suppose the feeling behind it means more than the actual piece of art. If anyone wants to see what good street art looks like, shame about the topic, but have a trip around Leeds, from the large scale ones such as the Bielsa one near Hyde Park down to the little ones on the streetside telecom cabinets, they're all just simply really good 🤷♂️

I haven't seen it. Is he passing to an opponent or is the ball bouncing off his shin? Or is he bollocking someone for their part in conceding a goal that was largely his fault? Pathetic Hopefully just a badly judged lighthearted jest.
