I think Hogg gets too much stick at times, but today he was poor. We do need a 6 that can build our attacks on the ball, especially with how much of the ball we will have this season, hoping we still strengthen there.

I completely get why he was put in for the opening game, but this will definitely be the season where he becomes less integral. He made some good defensive plays but was Generally quite slow and clumsy, and Kasumu off the bench was much brighter today.

Thought he looked very leggy whilst we struggled at the beginning, but was ultimately part of a winning side and one that totally dominated the second half.

Much maligned but he'll be so important this season, as much for his mentoring skills as his football ones. But he will be class in league one. Town through and through and we should not take that for granted

If a 38 year old played for Mansfield last night, Hoggy still a nipper I was actually shocked to see Quinn last night, thought he had retired 5 years ago. Niall?

Did I really see him nick his armband back off Helik when clapping the fans at the end?

I thought he was excellent today. For me a big reason we won was because our midfield was so well organised, and Hoggy's leadership eas central to that. Between him, Lees and Evans for POTM IMO.

That’s why he looked so good alongside mooy. But to suggest he was poor today is laughable. Did exactly what we needed. Broke up play and gave it to those who can spray it around.

Not laughable at all. First half Posh had a few really good chances that came from their counter and the defence wasn’t protected. We couldn’t get control on the ball and Hogg gave away the ball countless times. Better second half but thought we looked even better when Kane and Kasumu came on. Hogg looked good next to Mooy because one Mooy is the best player ever to play for Town and 2 he was 6 years younger. Like I said, I love Hogg and think he gets unjustified criticism but I thought he was poor today.

What I will comment on was there was a breakaway and I saw Hoggy trying to get back and they were leaving him behind, it looked liked Hoggy was towing a caravan behind him. I can’t believe how quickly his legs are going.

Hoggy was needed yesterday & did his job well. Kasumu & Kane looked great coming on yesterday but that was because Posh had well & truly had the resolve knocked out of them after our brilliant first 15 mins of the 2nd half.
That being said, I would be happy to start all of Kane, Evans & Wiles in the next 2 home league games,

I'll admit I was disappointed he was still in first XI, but according to everyone I know who went he barely put a foot wrong?
Only seen highlights so I'm in no place to judge fully.
Apologies to The General if it's the case though.

Just got to trust the gaffer and his support staff. If they think he can do a job and is fit enough then he's in. My view on Hogg remains unchanged throughout his time with us. He's limited in what he does but in the right set up is very effective. On those rare occasions he's been injured for a run of games our results usually took a nose dive. Times caught up with him but at lg1 level I'm sure he can hold his own if he stays fit.

Apologies to The General if it's the case though. I remember when he played here that people described Ollie Norwood as "a highlights reel player". As in, if you looked at his highlights you'd think he was a world beater, but watching the whole game you'd see him do something brilliant, then do bugger all for the other 89 minutes. Hogg is like that in reverse. What Hogg does really well is the stuff that you'll never see on a highlights reel. Organising his teammates, breaking down opposition attacks before they get going. Some bloke shouting at his teammates and tackling somebody in an innocuous area of the pitch doesn't get the pulse racing, but for me he was excellent. Alongside Lees and Evans for POTM. Although I wonder if Evans was so good partly because Hogg did his job so well.

A couple of decent options there for the defensive midfield role. Would also agree that the weaker sides in the division are likely to play a low block, so we might not need much defensive cover, but more who can unlock defences. Stevenage & Shrewsbury would fit that description of the weaker sides.

Be careful what you wish for guys. You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone! Hoggs legs have gone, I can tell you that, and I'm one of those who loves Hogg for his time with us over all these years. Hogg in his prime for us was quality, but he's looked a frustrating figure for years now, berating players, slower to and on the ball than ever before. Our reliance on Hogg tells you enough about the quality of acquisition/investment into replacing him for all these years, unfortunately. We don't have a single player with his steel anywhere on the pitch to give him some credit though.

Kane tried but isn't fully match fit. Hogg wouldn't have achieved any better than any of them. He would have been better than Wiles...but so would I

Maybe Hogg and Ward are not as bad as many like to make out.

Be careful what you wish for guys. You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone! You're right, after the way he and the team performed with him last Saturday against a weaker side than Blackpool tonight then I can't fathom what so ever why fans wanted him dropped. We'd have won tonight with him in the side without question... Jesus wept.

We'd have won tonight with him in the side without question... Jesus wept. They certainly wouldn’t have walked straight through our midfield like they did. Hogg is terrible from an attacking point of view but to say he wouldn’t have made the middle of the park more difficult for Blackpool is mad. Saturday wasn’t getting over run and outplayed like last night. It was just as bad but errors galore. Last night Blackpool were just a lot better than us.
