If the club have any sense then we'll already be talking to Chelsea about having Matos for next season. You can see why they pinched him off Norwich, he's got the potential to play at a very high level with the right nurturing. Not seen a ball winner like him for ages. He brought out the best in Kasumu tonight as well.

Tonight was a refreshing change and exactly how football should be played. A welcome change from the borefests I've witnessed under various managers over the last few years. Thoughts on Worthington then?

I thought we seemed quite comfortable for the game and only in the last 10 mins was when I got to the shit my pants stage every time they got near the box or had a set piece. I would never have felt so comfortable with Moore in and we probably wouldn't have held on with him in charge in the unlikely event we got 1-0 under him anyway.

Summing up my thoughts on tonight's game 3 points What a difference to turgid DM's game plans I thought we played better for most of the game on Saturday Maybe Saturday's game tired the players more than expected, but a little more strength on the bench helped Subs used better this time, some could have been a little earlier We somehow have to get fitter, but remain fresh for the upcoming matches 6 points from 3 games, just why did we hang on to DM for so long For me the subs and shuffle nearly cost us. Rudoni and sorba were brilliant and all of a sudden Rudoni is playing inside and sorba switched wings. Totally disrupted us. Remove knackered players but no need to just switch positions. Was like watching Horton. He use to make one sub and 6 or 7 had to change positions We needed fresh legs on the pitch as we were beginning to look ragged and towards the end we could quite easily have added a second goal. How we shuffled the players around I skipped as plenty on here wanted to see Sorba on the other wing.

Tie Spencer down to a new deal.
Matty Pearson was superb this evening, he does not look like a right back at all but that was an excellent showing from him this evening. He's surely worth at least one more year.

Absolutely top ballers today. They have always been good enough, just tethered by an ultra defensive manager.

There doesn't seem to be any reason why we can't because we love him and he'll still be just 57th choice defensive midfielder back at Chelsea so they should be happy to send him out to us again with him doing so well

Excellent second half and a deserved 3 points, but the last 10 mins + injury time was far more nervy than it should have been Matos & Spencer superb again, Balker looks class, Wiles played well & Rudoni & Sorba were quality. Nicholls great too The whole atmosphere around the ground is just so much better with DM goneAnd so out he did Trail, to a club called Port Vale... Cos his football was Stale, like the food in the Jail... He did sound Alpha Male, in his interview Sale... And his every Detail, had old Kevin Exhale... But things didn’t Prevail, and the football did Fail... And the storm was a Gale, as Town fans hit the Ale... As we spewed in a Pail, clinging onto a Rail... Came the final old Nail, And we did have our Grail... And Big Darren did Wail, as his ship it did Sail... And now out I must Bail, Hope yous liked ma wee Tale... (It’s Valentines Day ❤️ and I love Huddersfield Town, so did a wee Verse for it) - (PS - Best wishes to Darren going forward) ! 😊

Please correct me if I'm wrong. I believe we had a set piece coach under Darren Moore. Did we score from a set piece under Darren Moore? (The last 23 games have merged into one for me) It seems that the players have been given licence to perform rather than be coached to death with "strategy" as the byword. Outcome...a goal from a set piece. Hmmm.

Moore had a set piece goal every 4.6 games as opposed to Worthy's 1 every 1.5 games and Warnock's 1 every 2.33 games

That was an absolute joy to watch, can't really single out individual players, I thought they were all superb tonight.
The pressing, workrate, confidence, energy, intensity. It honestly reminded me of the Wagner promotion team.
I can't see any team finding it easy to deal with that level of performance. The only concern is whether they're fit enough to keep it up.
I was thinking at the game tonight that if we'd brought in a new manager and he'd had that affect on performances we'd be thinking he was the second coming! Well done JW and team!

He's surely worth at least one more year. Absolutely, never lets us down and contrary to what some on here say he's more than capable at right back and can pass the ball! That's before you consider the fact he's an absolute warrior and constant goal threat. He's been brilliant, straight off the back of an injury too.

First game I've thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish all season, including Warnock as well as Moore as manager.
I know Sunderland ended up with 10 men anyway when Roberts had to go off, but they should have had 2 sent off as well. The foul on Pearson was ridiculous and would have been classed as GBH if it had happened off the pitch. Quite how Bellingham got away with handball on the goal-line as well, I've no idea.
Don't appoint Worthington until the end of the season, just keep him there until the first choice manager becomes available. If it's not until the summer, so be it. Don't put JW under any unnecessary pressure.

After what has been a turgid and depressing season in the main it was so nice to enjoy a game of football again. It's the first time in as long as I can remember I came away with a sore throat from actually having something to support.
The pace, intensity and intent were outstanding. Yes we may have some quality gaps but that was just so much better overall.
Still a lot of work to do but that set the benchmark for the rest of the season.
A big step in the right direction. Well done to all.

POSITIVES
Thought Pearson and Rudoni did a fantastic job on Clarke, some superb tackles throughout.
Matos and Kasumu were excellent in the middle breaking up their play
Spencer and Balker very impressive, Lees doing his best to score another OG!
The Zorg looked dangerous and had an impact
Sorba - A leader, has class, drives forward and has end product. He's so important to us.
Great win, more than deserved.
NEGATIVES IF I'M BEING PICKY..
Rudoni really is very poor in front of goal, the amount of big chances he has missed this season have really added up.
Wiles looked knackered after 50 minutes again and struggled to have the same impact as the other midfielders..
Danny Ward; what can we even do with him next season?!
I wonder what Bojan is thinking from the bench...
When Jackson and Nakayama were our left side, Sunderland clearly targeted it as our weak link. Can't wait for Headley to come back into the fold.
Jackson needs a season long loan next season and we need better than Nakayama.

Yuta didn't do anything wrong and Jacko kept winning free kicks to take the sting out of the game.

They clearly targeted that side and it twice nearly paid off were it not for a great save by Nicholls x2. Roberts going off injured really helped us out. It was clearly weaker when they came on and spencer and Balker came off, that's just an observation.

The main thing from last night was the concentration and discipline from Town...Sunderland were poised to punish any mistake with some dangerous wing play, but our shape and numbers were good all night. Slight worry we hadn't put the game to bed with those chances we had, could have avoided being a nervous wreck with the ref clearly wanting an equaliser..
The big thing is the confidence the players will have now...and belief in the system they're asked to play. Unlike under DM where the lads seemed to lack belief and were not trusted to play anything other than turgid football.
A good all round team performance and we've finally moved off 21st place after seemingly being locked in there throughout the DM era.

I'm absolutely shagged just watching that. My nerves were completely shredded the last 20 minutes. How great it's been to simply FEEL SOMETHING while watching town again. Each of the last 3 games have been brilliant in different ways. Can't fault a single player tonight, they were brilliant. Hogg coming on, and the tireless effort of Rudoni were the difference those last few minutes Rudi was absolutely knackered, he was holding his groin halfway through the 2nd half and just played through the pain He was holding his groin about 20 minutes in! I didn’t think he’d come out for second half. What an effort he put it! Very different from the Wednesday game I thought in that right from minute 1 we were at them and creating chances. Suppose like last Saturday it’s a case of how long can they keep it up. Got punished at st Mary’s but last night we saw it through but a lot of our players were spent with 20 to go in truth. Monumental effort! What did Simon Ireland do exactly? Set piece coach? I never noticed any work on that under him and in just 3 games we’ve tried and scored from all kinds of variations. Even the pre-planned way we kicked off almost brought a goal.

Great game, great result. What I really enjoyed last night was how Worthy is clearly a smart football guy. We still played with attacking intent and high tempo last night but also with a level of control and balance which meant we were solid defensively too. Smart and subtle changes from the Southampton match.
That is what a decent manager does - keep it simple and make small adjustments from what we learn after each match. Well done JW.
Squad starting to look stronger too - Matos really come on the last 2/3 matches and Spencer is pure quality. Pearson is the ultimate pro, Balker looks very good - his pace and reading of the game are going to be a big plus for us. Everyone worked hard and with a bit of luck, the game would have been out of sight before a nervy last 10mins.
In modern football, with 5 subs, then I believe you can afford to play full throttle and then manage the game in the second half with fresh legs to keep up the level of intensity. Add Headley, Healey, Helik and Ruffels to last nights squad and things are looking much better.
Can’t wait for Saturday.
