You can't tell me that there isn't a better left back option than a past it Kieran Trippier being played out of position. Tyrik Mitchell is better for one Only problem with this group and the previous groups for the last 5 years is Southgate. I respect him for leaving Maguire and Grealish out, but then he takes 1 left back who's isn't fit. In a major international tournament you simply cannot be playing players out of their natural position. Doesn't matter how good Trippier, Trent etc will be at Left Back of Shaw can't last, itl be our downfall. Mitchell should have been on the plane. Is he good enough? Jury is out. But I'd rather have an actual left back than people filling in. Colwill could have done it, Chilwell and reece James.

Let's hope that is a wake up call and we look to perform better with more threat and pace in the Euros.

Let's hope that is a wake up call and we look to perform better with more threat and pace in the Euros. For the players I agree.. But when you have, in my opinion, the best attacking group, why do you have a safe, defensive manager and coaches in charge? England were gash tonight and the usual will happen, get through the group stage, and ponder through until we get a big name and lose due to weaknesses. Same old story. 1st time I'm not looking at odds etc.

Anyone who reads much into tonight wants their head testing.
Players mentally in germany who just want to get there without injury playing a freindly at 75% vs a team not going who is playing 100% is always going to show
Bigger picture.. I have always backed southgate. He's by no means a top coach, but he brought the most important factor to an england squad in decades; desire to play for England (Was just the other day watching rooney say he didnt enjoy playing for england). We could have the best manager in the world but without that we stood no more chance than with Southgate.
I do however feel that's running out... not the spirit - i think southgate has probably helped instill that for a generation now (and for that, even if he fails to win a trophy, hes done more than most managers) - but the levels have shifted now and the bar is higher. You could say the groundwork is there and these players are ready for a top* manager to come in and see us dominate international football - our squad and youth are that good.
He deserves this tournament imo, but whatever happens i think it should be his last. We dont want to stagnate. Im reasonably confident, but fear we will fall a tad short.
*I say top manager, but not even.. I think Potter would be functionally a good fit.

Or score the first goal as that will probably be the type of display we come up against should we go behind - against better teams and we struggled to break Iceland down .

We could do a lot worse than letting KN and Mark Cartwright choose the next England coach.
Stand by your phone Darren!

If we can't beat Iceland, we will really struggle against the bigger teams like ASDA, Tesco's and Sainsbury's😉

C'mon boys & girls, give your heads a shake, whether we win the Euros or lose every game it will have nothing to do with last night where an England team were going through the motions, trying not to get injured.

How painfully predictable is all this? Limp through the group stages and probably lose against the first top team we come up against, probably France. How he can take some naturally gifted expressive players and make them intro drones is impressive. Agreed that a lot of the players are overhyped. Bellingham and Saka definitely (who, by the way, is valued at 140mill!) Football's all about opinions I appreciate but I genuinely believe Bellingham (at 20) is already the most complete player in the world & seeing as he was voted the best player in the Bundesliga, aged 19, & the best player in La Liga this year, a lot of good judges think he's half decent too.

The lack of left sided players is what i think actually cost us in the Gerrard Lampard days rather than those 2.
This squad has no one who wants to play on that side.

Both have worked under Ashworth so should fit in - that's kind of my point about not even needing a top manager. i dont think we need a revolutionary manager to shake things up anymore, just a better football brain.

I think athleticism has increased but at the expense of genuine technical quality.

Take Foden for example. Given freedom to express himself, he’s been sensational this season. He doesn’t seem to be able to play in this way for England.

I’d have a found a place for both for that reason. They don’t need both Wharton and mainoo & both Watkins and Tony. Rashford covered 2 places. Grealish a ball carrying natural lefty. Neither in great form as such but neither Re Watkins or Tony.

Wharton is the most exciting one for me in terms of how we could be that midfielder we've needed for years. Sees a pass instantly and executes it effortlessly and that's forward passes too, not needlessly going sideways or back. He could be the English Busquets My son played with him quite a bit in the academy at Blackburn - Wharton was the year below. He was always talented and did things that you thought wow, but was quite small as a kid and showed no signs of the levels he is now achieving. Unbelievable rise to where he is now over the past 12 months or so!! Seems like he's a very quiet lad who likes to keep himself to himself. Bodes well for his career vs being the Kongolo type out partying every night. The new James Milner maybe with a bit more ability 12 mins in responding to his dad's loner comment
