Southgate naming around 30 players at 2pm today, will be trimmed down to a final squad of 26 in a few weeks.
Finally good to see he's not including out of form players with bigger reputations and including the younger form players.
No Rashford, Henderson or Sterling. Chilwell, Reece James also not in.
Wharton, Mainoo, Eze, Branthwaite, Bowen all included.

Biggest load of bollocks I'd heard from a manager until part and partial appeared.

Easy to see where he trims that down; Mainoo, Wharton, Quansah, Trafford all won’t make it. Good players for the future though.
I do feel he has sidelined Sterling too early. Class is permanent and Raheem has it in spades. Rather him in the squad than a Kalvin Phillips. Attack attack attack, we are going to be in Germany after all. 🫢

Cynical head on me thinks the young recruits are there just to make the trim down to 26 easier. Probably easier to tell them they're not part of the tournament than going to the likes of Rashford and Sterling and doing the same.

Just noticed that Olise at Palace was born in Hammersmith! We should be asking the question of him imo.

Good to see Levi making the provisional squad 👌 I don't think he has, from what I can see.

Trafford, Dunk, Konsa, Quansah, Jones, Eze and one of Mainoo/Wharton to be trimmed I reckon. Personally, I'd 100% take Wharton.

Garth Crooks will be getting both sides of the bed for a month if Dunk is selected...

In fairness to Southgate, he has had to go to Rashford and Sterling and say they're not going - just a bit earlier than he would have if they'd been in the provisional squad. I quite like the idea of including some youngster in the provisional squad to give them a taste of it, especially if he's already decided his 26.

How Tomori doesn’t make that squad, and yet slab-head and Branthwaite do, amazes me. Some things still don’t change with Southgate.
I’d also be looking at Loftus-Cheek ahead of Jones and taking a punt /look at either Bynoe-Gittens or Iling-Junior ahead of either Maddison or Gordon.

I'd be tempted to take Wharton based on his form since joining the premier league, plus I actually think he's the most natural Defensive midfielder. Rice often bombs forward for Arsenal and I think the tactics hold him back for England.
I'd also drop Maddison who has been shocking the second half of the year and be keeping Eze (if he stays fit). Glad southgate has finally dropped Henderson, which makes me question why he bothered to include him in the squads all year when it was clear he was not at the required standard.
I'd 100% take Gordon also who's had a brilliant season.

Iling junior no way, has barely played for Juve who’ve been very poor since January. If I was to suggest a wild card I’d say angel gomes from Lille, can play a few positions and good playmaker.

Palmer has played everywhere in the opposition half and regularly appears in his own, defending and starting attacks from there, before finishing off the move. Is he a forward in the old terms of being a forward. Id say he was an attacking midfielder who could play number 10 with his eyes closed, or wide left or right in midfield. I like him, a lot.. Be honest, Toney down the middle and Foden and Palmer wide of him, or past him or feeding off him, the opposition would shite themselves.. Especially later on when you swap em for kane, Saka and Ezzie... Or the other way around.. Good options... Add in Bellingham up and down from halfway supporting and we may not have to rely on Maguire or anyone else..the counter attacks could be biblical...

Great use of the additional places. Give them to younger players who could benefit from being around the international set up.
Should be fairly easy to trim 7 players out of that team worrying lack of Left backs though.
Just need Southgate to only play one holding midfielder now and ill get very excited.
Rice behind Bellingham, Foden, Kane, Palmer and Saka could be absolute pandamonium.

Almost spot on. I think Solanke deserves a spot over Toney. There's also arguments for Tomori and Loftus-Cheek, who've both had excellent seasons at AC Milan. Surprised Quansah gets in over Tomori or even Eric Dier, in particular. I've said since Colwill was with us that he'd be in the next Euros squad. Very happy to see him there. High expectations once again so only one way it'll go, naturally
Edit: just misread it and noticed Colwill isn't there! Ignore me

Agree re Tomori though, decent CB and really deserves more chances considering he’s established at a legendary club in a bloody tough league.

Presume they’ll trim a keeper from that list?
Not sure why you’d have about a sixth of your squad wearing (goalkeeping) gloves…
