Let's hope the standard in League 1 is much lower than the Championship. I don't see what Hogg offers us - God please not a starter - steeped in the failures of the last 7 years. All this talk of using him 20 minutes or so at the end? Surely the money could be better spent on someone with the potential to contribute positively in full games.
I was hoping for a fresh start in League 1 - this news sounds like exactly the opposite. Even if we're paying peanuts we should have moved on from the grim past.

We have needed more leaders for several seasons. Losing Hogg would have been a real blow. If he has players around him to take the ball forward and let him do what he does best, stop the opposition, then there is no problem with him playing regularly. I think age and the injuries over the years will be the things that dictate how much he plays.

Whilst I love the guy and am happy to have him in the squad, if he ends up being our midfield mainstay again then something has gone seriously wrong.
Glad he's signed but I'm hoping he'll be a bit-part player, helping his replacement settle in.

One year deal seen & done the good, bad & the ugly. The Matos interview also speaks volumes of him. If not overplayed we all know he won't let us down.

Two years ago we get smashed by Bournemouth 3-0 at home without Hoggy who returns to the team from injury to see off Luton (H) & then hometown Boro with mom performances helping cement our play off spot, last season he returns from injury to help Neil & Ron with the greatest of great escapes, both CC & NW heap praise on their captain knowing how much he matters to the squad.......This season Hoggy gets injured v Coventry & we don't see him return, some clown in the stands says 'oh we won't miss him', we did.

Despite some of the flaws in his game we donāt realise how much we need him until he isnāt actually playing - Iām pleased heās staying - he will play his part with 100% commitment as usual, as and when needed.

I hope the new signings start coming in sharpish, as I can't get excited over the contract renewal of someone who turns 36 in December. Sorry.

I donāt think anyone was expecting supporters to get excited about keeping Hogg. You canāt build on soft ground. You need foundations and JH is part of those. MD said in his press conference he had a chat with Hogg so he was probably the first, and maybe the only so far, player he spoke to. He is a very important part of the club and MD had the sense to see that from the off.

Duff is a decent appointment for this level, but he'll be no good unless he's heavily backed with serious reinforcements.

Well it should be, we're one of the biggest clubs in the division, so in theory we should have the pick of the crop. By some distance. Average wage bills in this division stand at Ā£6.3m (Price of Football Podcast, for those who need a source). Our budget should be double that, if not more. Allow for relegation wage reductions, plus getting a huge number of players off the books, Iād estimate our current bill to be around Ā£8m. Renewing Hogg - a leader, an old-stager, someone canny on the pitch - doesnāt eat into that hugely. So it isnāt exciting, but it does give us a platform. We have something to build from and something to build with. Hogg himself clearly doesnāt imagine heās going to be an automatic first choice but a squad player. And if weāre finally making that step, itās quite exciting in itself. Weāve been over-reliant on him for years. One last year to change the guard.

Of all the dubious and spurious contract extensions weāve dished out over the last two or three seasons, this would be the best one imo, one we should be all support. We need some experience and guile this year and Hoggy has that, alongside a genuine love for the badge.
Who else would you want in our trench when we are 2-1 up in the 98th minute away at Shrewsbury on a wet Tuesday night, to claim three points to keep us top?

I bet he does & won't be surprised if Jutkiewicz (35) & Ruddy (37) start for the 3/1 title favourites Birmingham City, Jutkiewicz only started 3 games last season & gets a new contract........A queue of decent players waiting to be snapped but the favs re-sign the oldies.

I hope the new signings start coming in sharpish, as I can't get excited over the contract renewal of someone who turns 36 in December. Sorry. As a fan of HTAFC you should be excited / happy / relieved that we have got Hogg to sign a new contract and stay at the club for at least another season. Hogg is a key part of the squad and I would even say the team, I am sure JH will be playing his fair share of games next season from the start and still be the club captain. I do not understand why you or any other fan would not be delighted to have JH around for another season for god sake have some positivity in your world. As for new signings do not worry they will come and come soon, starting with a few free transfers and then investment in the squad with loans and purchases to follow, some are completed just not announced I am confident we will be challenging for autos next season with the level of investment we are going to have, you just need to be patient, just because there are very few rumours does not mean we are not active in the market it just means are team are much better now at keeping the leaks quiet. I worry for you sometimes, I do think you would not get excited / positive unless we signed some top premier league players, you have to be realistic and at the same time a little bit ambitious but any of the below players for example would be top class L1 signings but I guess you would argue that they would all be rubbish signings. Please note none of the names below are any inside knowledge just players I would say are available and top class L1 signing IMHO, 2 or 3 of the below names and we are starting to build a really strong squad. Nahki Wells Jack Cork Oli Norwood Tyrese Cambell D Cole Ashley Fletcher Danny bath Cyrus Christie Ben Gibson Max Lowe Paddy McNair Erik Pieters Bradley Dack Andre Dozzell Jordon williams Luke Berry Dan Potts Dominic Ball

Stop telling me what I should be doing, stop putting words in my mouth and stop telling me I'm something I'm not. You can post what you want (within reason), All i am asking is why does it always have to be negative? Keep trotting out the "you're negative" lines all you want, I'll get excited when some signings come through the door and we start winning games. We might get to see this then...... out of interest would any of the names above make you excited as I am pretty sure some of this list will be at town next season ? I'm still waiting for you to pay for my season ticket, but as with everything else you post on here, it was bullshit. see below I am happy to, to keep you away as I always said I would I would donate weekly to someone who cant get one. why cant you be a little bit positive though I read every post and its negative nothing to say that is a positive. I said I would pay for your season ticket if it meant you did not attend with your negative vibes, but I guess you decided to keep coming and keep being negative (maybe you are not in the ground but you certianly are on this message board). Is there not any way you can priase something the club has done instead of putting it down at every possible occasion, what part of you thinks signing JH on for another year is not good news for the team / club ? I really do not understand how you in any way think this is not good news ? yet again you make a postive thread about our Captain staying for another year into a negative, I just dont understand why you have to bring down the thread to a positve, your like a talk sport presenter who is told / paid to say something conflicting in order to antaganise people and create a debate, maybe this your intention but its kind of draining and boring like a broken record.

Oh joy.
Letās not dictate on who should and shouldnāt say why they feel? Football is an emotive sport, just now there is a level of negativity and worry about it next season but itāll dissipate if we get off to a good start.
Bring on the joker sales and fresh faces coming in, proud to be at a club like Town.

It's not always negative. It's just all you choose to see. I have praised the club loads of times over the last few months, I've said many times that they do some really good work off the pitch and have never said any different. There's been several events over the last few months that have been a credit to the club and I've said so. But you ignore it because it doesn't suit your agenda. I even tagged you in a thread to show you lots of positive stuff I do for the club, in my own time and for free. But you ignored that as well. I've watched Town in 70 grounds, so I most definitely do go to the games. I don't take too kindly to people telling me I'm something I'm not and telling me that I shouldn't support the team I've supported since I was a boy, so can you stop doing it, please. And on your final point, calling me a "broken record", that is the biggest irony of all ironies coming from you. You're the most boring poster on the board, with your pretend "in the know" posts that sees everyone sighing with a collective yawn.
