Looks agile enough to cause havoc and can't see it breaking the bank to land him if Charlton will let him go. But he will need feeding lol. We’ve got one of the best crossers in the championship. With Healey and Rad as we could finally have the firepower to score more than 1 goal in a game. But we must sign a midfielder who can really pass the ball.

Hang on hang on. How do we now know who is “ITK” on a Charlton forum? Some knowledge that!! Reading the forum is hilarious. There’s some profile who’s clearly their version of CHT saying shit like “I know who the replacement is but can’t say for the sake of Nathan Jones” 😂. ITK should be banned as a phrase on here. There's always something in it when O'Rourke states it. Quite a reliable journalist.

Just to play devils advocate (why not, DATM hates balance): 31 next month. Shite rate prior to the last three seasons. Arguably a poor return when under Duff. 44 goals in two and a half seasons under Duff. Shocking return 😮 I apologise. Error on behalf.

If we've genuinely offered 800k (and got rejected) for a soon to be 31 year old who's never played above League one before that isn't good business for me.
I'd like to see us utilise the League One route we did before signing players who we can improve and also sell on. Not that I have any confidence Cartwright can source those players. Appreciate May gives us a solid goalscorer at the level and sometimes age is irrelevant but hope the rest of the business is different.

Bottom line is, we need goals, he's bagged 75 at this level in 3 seasons, Duff knows him well, he respects Duff for getting his career back on track, if his goals get us promotion then £1m is peanuts. We could pay a similar amount for a young lad that might take a few seasons to shine, but in the here and now we need goals to push for an instant return.

We need to mix potential with proven talent. May fits into the latter. £800,000 isn't an unreasonable bid for someone with a couple of years left plus his reputation. Rickie Lambert was what, 28 and £1m in 2009? Similar career trajectory, too.

No no no, we need to forget “developing players “ we need players that are proven at this level and could potentially make the step up. We’re not in the position this season of developing players it’s got to be 100% focus on automatic promotion, we haven’t got time to be messing about with potential, look where that’s got us!

Reckon this one will be accepted ? Doubt it, they’ll dig their heels in but an immediate second aggressive bid highlights our intentions, unless they value him at a stupid price suspect we’ll get him - if he’s a big fan of Duff it’s another tick for us.

And we’ll end up turning him into a 5 goal a season striker that’s injury prone 😉

I do agree with this however for a club like us we definitely need both largely to avoid significant debts. Think May would be a great signing to start off the summer proven talent at the level (let's just ignore the fee for now until we know). It is also hard to know what the total budget is and how much of this is going on May. Could be a very small amount of it/we're spending money from a player we've already sold i.e JK or Thomas etc.

A million quid for a player who scored 20 goals a season in division we in is a bargain. Don't matter he's soon to be 32.

Will he be another one whose goals dry up as soon as soon as he pulls a Town shirt on? I remember Keighan Parker!

Hopefully not, duffs teams have scored goals in the past, also he’s played under him before. And you would like to think duff this summer will have the backing to build a better quality side than he’s had in the past(with the exception of Swansea obviously)

Could be a big part of the jigsaw this. Not only getting a top L1 goalscorer through the door, but letting everyone in the game know we are serious about getting straight back up.

Has anyone seen him play to be able to talk about his game?
Is he just a goalscorer or does he have a bit more to his game? I've visions of Theo Robinson scoring goals at this level but being an absolute clown the rest of the time

Every single Charlton fan is either panicking, angry or ready to combust from what im reading.
When was the last time we signed a player when their entire fan base didn’t want them to leave?
