Am I missing something here... just been reading the Charlton forum and a lot of their fan base are saying he would have been sat on their bench this coming season? Jones took over in February and May got less game time. Still got games but he didn’t play as much. Now Jones has the summer window to build the squad he wants, not just what he inherited, the style may not suit May as well and he may play less. Given May’s real success started under Duff, and we are prepared to pay very good money for him, you would think it would be a good move. He will still be competing with other decent strikers but if Duff plays 2 up front he will get plenty of opportunities to get goals and will probably feel Town have a better chance of promotion. |

Charlton probably keeping stuff close and not wanting anything to get out, they’ll have to replace unless they’ve sorted that the price goes up on the replacement as soon as clubs know they’ve got xyz for may.

Charlton may well be pissed at us for having 'stolen' Karlan Grant from them and then stiffing WBA when we sold .... although I guess Charlton should be happy with their sell-on % ....might be being overly cautious at the same thing not happening again, tho the age profiles of the 2 players is very different

I can guarantee this is a case of Charlton not wanting to publicise that another bid has come in as they will be wanting to sort out a replacement for May without it being public knowledge that they’ve got money from us coming in. They have to replace May and it makes sense for them to sort a replacement before publicising the May sale; also their fanbase will go ballistic so they’ll want someone announced at the same time as his departure.
