Mucky fat, food of the gods. Is this why whenever I’m over I there I see those defibrillator machines everywhere? I think the closest we have to mucky fat is crisco, which we use to grease pans before baking No please, nothing like that. Get yourself to Haighs Farm shop, only a mile or so from Marstons. Now timing is of the essence, Wednesday or Fridays seem to be the best for getting a pot of Mucky fat, it's that popular it's gone before you know it. Thick slice of white bread with a nice thick smear of fat on it, sprinkle of pepper, there's no going back.

They have not forgotten mad cow over here, Brits cannot even give blood in a lot of states because of it.

Would any of us change it for the tedium of constant mid-table a-la Charlton, or the ignominy of supporting Citeh or Saudi Utd? Or the arrogant big-bollocks of Wendy or L***s? There's times I wish my uncles hadn't drummed (beaten?) Town into me, but those times pass really quickly. Bit harsh on Charlton Mosher. The rest of the stuff. Been saying for years that supporters of the ‘elite’ clubs must find it difficult to feel real emotion when a bad season for them would be only reaching a final or semi-final. I’d imagine there are still a few Man C supporters who look back more fondly on their L1 play off triumph than they do on some of their recent successes. Wasn’t intending any harshness, purely meant in my lifetime they’ve barely been promotion contenders OR relegation candidates and must be quite boring supporting them, certainly wasn’t implying they were shit 😂

Edit: and later, just had a look - "manager Alan Curbishley took them back up as champions in 1999–2000. Charlton spent seven successive years in the Premier League, before suffering two relegations in three years."

Not young at all mate I'm 50; I remember them in the PL, I remember them getting relegated (twice) but in the past 20-25 years they've just seemed to have bobbed along without threatening promotion or relegation. Maybe it just seems that way from the outside, they were just the first team I thought of that seemed to be "coasting along" without any perceivable excitement, good or bad.

This is excellent work and glad to hear the talks were positive. For me, it's a little thing that just gives the players and fans a bit of knowledge about where they are in our club. I enjoy looking at the names on the portakabin at the stadium and seeing the ones who played when I first started going, the "he was amazing" ones and the "I'd forgotten about him" ones. Rambling a bit as I'm still hungover from watching Pixies at the Piece Hall yesterday 😀

I'm all up for pre and post match shagging as part of the matchday experience That bit made me laugh too, Yank mate was always saying shagging when he meant retrieving, even after we told him what it meant to us Brits He always got a laugh when he referred to his fanny or fanny pack too 😂 So to them the Austin Powers film 'The spy who shagged me' basically means 'the spy who retrieved me' ?? How weird!

Anyone pick up on KN's comments about the Giants..and how their season restricts opportunities for stadium development (sound system), concerts and events at the JSS after the football season is over ...adding in the need to keep the pitch up to scratch all summer for the rugby...
It's September soon, and the Giants finish the season with 4 successive home games, including one on a friday night before Town play on Saturday afternoon...
The Giants are going to have to go aren't they...we could have concerts (etc) all summer if it weren't for the fact the pitch is needed for the egg chasers...Concerts are big money makers for the club...

So forgive my ignorance: but do you retire numbers over there? No,I'm more thinking that a player is the 568th player to play for town, so he gets a little 568 embroidered on his kit every time he plays Let's hope we don't do it with the managers kit or else there won't be enough room for the number

Its hardly an issue, the Giants didn't play a home game from the 1st of June to the 18th of July inclusive. Even Taylor Swift might struggle to fill that!

The Giants need to move out of the JSS and into a stadium of their own for a whole host of reasons, both beneficial to Town and also to them. However, can they even firstly afford to buy land and then build a 8-10K stadium. And would they then even be able to generate enough money to run and maintain such a stadium? That's probably one of the main sticking points in them selling their 20% share to KN. They wont want to give up ownership if there is genuine potential to make money out of the stadium and they wont want to leave the stadium as they are likely to not be able to afford their own stadium.

Indeed so..Fartown have to look after their own interests, and if they can make money from playing in the JSS then they won't want to lose that...but given the size of their home support I very much doubt they're making much. Ken Davy owns land, and the old Fartown pitch is still there and used...so there are options but would cost a few £m for sure. Dewsbury built a new stadium, neat, tidy, modern and appropriate for their needs. How much the Giants pay for the running of the stadium I don't know, when KSDL were running it the costs were pro-rated according to crowd size..but now it seems KN is paying ALL the costs, which simply isn't fair. It's a situation that needs resolving because the change to a summer season for rugby league has screwed Town.

Might be more cost effective in the long run to contribute significantly to knocking up a new small stadium for them on the Fartown land. Stop sharing with them.
I'm a fan of rugger league don't get me wrong but they're getting in the way a bit now.

It's KN's decision to pay over and above that for the developments we've seen (90% of which the Giants would probably say is not 'necessary'), which is his choice. Given the accounts to July 2023 are nearly a month past their due filing date, I suspect we'll hear something interesting soon.

I can't see that happening anytime soon. Unless someone helps Ken Davy with a huge financial investment.. Hopefully a solution can be found whereby the stadium can be used to it's maximum capabilities with Concerts and also hiring out of the facilities - KN talked about various rooms at the stadiums that can be hired out.

I'm sure there is an element of that, but there was / is also plenty of long overdue essential maintenance in there too.. obv the replacing of broken/faded seats didn't bother the Giants so they all got fitted as blue and white seats..and this will continue as Town pay the piper and thus call the tune...it becomes less apparent as a Giants stadium too.. The sound system won't bother the Giants either, with just 3-4000 fans there...that's a major item of expenditure.. I can imagine there's quite a bit of bickering about what needs to be done, with the Giants asking do we really need to re-lay the pitch again, does that stanchion really need painting, what's wrong with the bogs.. etc etc..

Agreed, whilst the party that SHOULD be doing this stuff sits on an ever growing pile of debt and surely can't continue to exist as a viable business. It was stated over 2 years ago that there is material uncertainty casting significant doubt on the stadiums ability to continue as a going concern - at a time when the stadium company liabilities exceeded its assets by more than £5m. That liability WILL have grown in the interim.

Adding to your comment for Justasmithers 's general info: The main reason that hasn't become a "thing" is because we only started using personalised squad numbers (and names) on shirts in 1999/2000. Historically, the starting numbers 1-11 belonged to the position rather than the player: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squad_number_(association_football)#EnglandEven as a 10 year old I noticed that Gary Barnett's shirt always looked enormous on him. 30+ years later I've finally realised that this was most likely because it had to be big enough to fit Iffy when required Ahhhh makes sense. Over here in baseball for example, Mickey Mantle wore #7. When he retired, they retired the number, so no Yankee can ever wear 7 again. Has become a common practice for the elite of the entire when they retire Exeter City had a player called Adam Stansfield, who died of cancer aged 32. They retired his number (9) in tribute to him. A couple of years ago, Adam Stansfield's son Jay went on loan to Exeter and they gave him his father's number whilst he was there, which I thought was a lovely touch.
