I guess IF there is a new manager the expectation for 2026 and so on will be to at least match Southgate's achievements but in a more eye catching manner? That is exactly the bar Southgate has set. For all his doubters, to actually be better than Southgate means one of two things: Win a tournament. Get to a final playing attacking, exciting football. Both/either are extremely difficult.

Other.
I didn't want to vote "big foreign name" as I don't care what nationality, so long as they do a good job, although a Pep or Klopp style innovator would be ideal IMO
So long as they don't bring the "tippy tappy at all costs" style.
Yes, play good football, play out from the back certainly, but not to the detriment of enjoyment.
Edit: where the fk has the idea of Bielsa come from? Has he done owt since L***s threw the chequebook at him?

I think (hope) Eddie Howe will absolutely relish the chance to manage England, will the Saudis let him go cheaply (not as if they need the brass)? Get it done quickly & move Southgate into the FA office.....Lets face it which fans would be excited to hear Gareth was going be their new manager?

Klopp would be amazing but can’t see it, so if not him I like the idea of Ange Postecoglou, no nonsense straight talker, very attack minded, national coach experience.
Id imagine it’ll be Eddie Howe though.

Had a feeling he'd bow out after this tournament. Set a pretty high bar, someone has to win something to better it.

Thank goodness, what a relief. Second that. I do understand why folk want him replaced. But i think back to other eras when we allegedly had great players but never achieved anything under some very highly regarded managers. They all struggled to get a consistent performance out of good player. Bobby Robson Venables Sven Capello

Resigned by mutual agreement possibly? Wonder if the Magpies will do a straight swap, what do you reckon Geordies?......Could get you to a cup final although you probably wouldn't win it.

"Listen guys, I know that I'm Scottish but they don't understand my brilliance up there. I kept Huddersfield in the championship all on my own and Jürgen Klinsmann says my hair is the best he's ever seen.
If I'd have been in charge in Sunday, England would've won because I lived in Germany and Berlin is the capital of Germany. Felix Magathe said I'm the greatest non German-German since some bloke from the 1930s.
Anyway, I'll be up this scaffolding waiting for the FA to call."

It causes far too much crap, and as much as I thought Southgate was too negative, it’s just amplified. Imagine poor old Graham T managing in this cesspit? It’s a poisoned chalice, that’s for sure… I’m sure history will judge Southgate’s tenure favourably, which is what it should do. Tough pick now.

It’s a poisoned chalice, that’s for sure… I’m sure history will judge Southgate’s tenure favourably, which is what it should do. Tough pick now. It always does. No-one ever mentions now that Bobby Robson was unpopular or that we started the 1990 World Cup poorly after a dreadful Euro 88. Same with Euro 96, everyone was going mad after the Switzerland match and there was even a press campaign for Gascoigne to be dropped. It was only after the Scotland game and then the Holland game where things switched around. Even Graham Taylor is looked upon favourably, yet he was deeply unpopular and was absolutely ripped to shreds by the press and the fans. But now in 2024, Euro 96 was ace and Bobby Robson was amazing and Graham Taylor was a good bloke. The same thing will happen in 2054, everyone will be eulogising about how brilliant Southgate was. As time moves on and people die, they become more popular and more respected and the actual opinion at the time gets forgotten about.

It’s the media, they don’t actually give a flying fuck about winning. They’ll jump on board the bandwagon if we do, but their sole objective is column inches, air time, social media hits etc.
Always been the same for the last 50+ years. They’re largely a bunch of twats.

Southgates greatest asset is his handling of the media, and whoever gets the job this needs to be one of the new mans main attributes. OK mentions Graham Taylor a few posts ago. Another great man who was absolutely vilified in the press, bullied really.

Had a feeling he'd bow out after this tournament. Set a pretty high bar, someone has to win something to better it. I think a change in mindset will be a start. Folk will stomach Southgate’s football if it leads to us winning something, unfortunately it didn’t. We were painfully bad to watch, no direction or style of play. It was just sit deep and either pass it around the back 4 for a couple of minutes and then lose it, or launch it to no one. Our players are better than that, they show it for their club sides every week. We got to the final because of players individual brilliance and a dodgy pen, not because of the way we played as a team. I’m both bothered what nationality the next manager is, just go and get the best manager you can.

Sadly his record against top ten teams was very poor.
Along with his failures at the World Cup and Euros, he managed to get us relegated from Level A of the European Nations League.
Still ensures that whoever takes over has some easy games to start with.

Should be going all out for Klopp, but I don't think he'll want the job. Graham Potter looks to have been waiting for this one to come up. Lee Carsley if we want to follow the successful under 21s manager route, but I doubt he'd want the job if he thought the Brentford job was too much scrutiny.
