What about actual waffles. Do you guys do waffles here? Butter, syrup, etc? Most seaside resorts do the waffle you speak of. I'm more of a donut fan myself, traditional, none of that Dunkin crap

Hmmmm, me too; pancake with corn beef hash is what we used to have on Pancake Day, yummy. ? Exactly , we used to have lambs liver and sloppy onion gravy on ours . I also still like homemade stew on top of pancakes , if I couldn't be arsed to make dumplings..

Haha. SWEET waffles.
Golden brown. Large. Maple syrup. Maybe some fruit. Powdered sugar. Whipped cream perhaps.
Also no biscuits with sausage gravy. Not the biscuits you’re likely thinking of, but OUR biscuits. Google American biscuits and gravy.
BBQ. Slow smoked brisket so tender it droops on the fork. Pulled pork. Collard greens. Cornbread. Bbq beans (not the sweet kind that taste like the sauce is ketchup based.
I’ve found myself wondering how that type of restaurant would do here. Went to a place called Moose Coffee that offered American breakfasts because we were curious, turns out it’s run by Canadian folks who got close in some spots, but still off. Wondering if it’s them or they just adjusted to taste.
Not a lot of Mexican food here either, which is to the US what Indian food is here. Also learned that “Asian” here is India/Pakistan etc, whereas in the US would mean Japan/China etc.
By the way none of this is me having a go at the cuisine here, as a matter of fact the wife had me buy some tins to make proper crumpets when we get home (not English muffins)……I’m just a food obsessive. Great way to learn culture, food.

BBQ wise people seem to like Hickory’s Smokehouse although I’ve never been, and there’s Reds True BBQ and Meatliqor in Leeds which used to be ok.

What about actual waffles. Do you guys do waffles here? Butter, syrup, etc? Not really, they were a thing for a while in the 80’s, there was a chain of roadside restaurants called Little Chef where you’d get them. Only waffles which are relatively common place are frozen potato ones 😝 Little Chef. Memmmmorieeeeeeesssss. They went bust after overexpanding and not modernising. Like Wimpy?

That.......and the breakfast cereal which is more sugar than cereal. Rest of the family loved lucky charms.......again not for me. Steaks / chicken / cobb salads - beautiful!!!

I remember Heston Blumenthal did that programme to try and save/modernise the Little Chef menu but it all ended sourly.

I ended up eating with butter and jam (jelly), just like a scone 🤣.

There's actually quite a few, but they're not as popular as Asian food or "Oriental" food, those are hugely popular over here, mainly because of the immigrant influx in the 60s. Before that my fellow Brits viewed even Italian, French or German food with suspicion the idiots Next time you're over there's 3 Mexican places just in Wakefield, Mex Cantina is supposed to be the best of them, but there's also one in Birstall, maybe half a dozen or so in L***s, there's even one called Gringo's in Huddersfield which a mate has said is decent. For a really nice goat curry (not to everyone's tastes admittedly) try Gurkha Sizzler in Huddersfield. Speaking of not to everyone's taste I've always wondered what 'gator is like. I've tried snake, kangaroo, crispy fried scorpion and a load of other stuff in HK so I wouldn't mind trying some of your more "exotic" cuisines.

Does seem bizarre to me that it's still going, I've not been in for around 30 years and don't recall anybody I know ever mentioning going in. It's also just around the corner from McDonalds. Must be money laundering for the local drugs trade or something. A quick check of their website says Huddersfield has one of only 59 restaurants still existing, and is the only one in West Yorkshire.

Throw a bit of stale lettuce on to make it look healthy . Then get it eaten as quickly as possible before the rain sets in..

I think Huddersfield and a couple of other places were independently owned and have never shut. Fond memories of Wimpy in the late70s/early 80s but either my tastebuds are now more sophisticated or, more likely, the quality just isn’t the same but a nostalgia trip quite a few years ago was very, very forgettable. Horrible.

We had wimpy way before McDonald's I think, was around in the early 80s. It's a franchise in the UK I think so a fair few still going strong but tend to be smaller. I might be mistaken but I seem to remember it was a big wimpy back in the day and it was on the corner opposite Kingsgate way before Kingsgate was a thing and before McDonald's was there in it's original location. On the biscuits and gravy thing, how is that even a dish?! In stark contrast to the rest of the food over there, probably the only thing I didn't really enjoy!
