From that article, 2 pints of Amstell for £10 seems quite reasonable for "venue" pricing of beer. Cold sausage roll and a pint for £9 less appealing (for more ways than one)! Looks like they've got Old Peculier too, was that always available? Obviously can't see the full available menu, but seems to still be mainly non health conscious food-stuff, and a continuation of zero options for either coeliacs or vegetarians which is a bit of a shame if correct. The shelters etc don't really impact me (neither does the available food or drink but I'd like to see a wider subset of our attendance catered for), given I expect I'll be continuing to drink in town and rock up at 5 to kick off and depart at the final whistle just as I've done for the previous 38-ish years - but good to see that area given a bit of a revamp generally. LOTS of people do want to eat and drink - and if they're not discouraged from doing that when there's a bit of rain, then thats all good for the coffers. Going off JE's interview last night, it sounds as though an even more weatherproof / coffers-boosting facility is going to be unveiled in the not-too-distant future...

Yep, not for me as we rock up 10-15 mins before kick-off, but I realise not EVERYTHING they're doing is aimed specifically at me. People who go to football have a wide variety of things they associate with going to the match. When I first started going in the 90s we'd be in the Peacock before 2pm and be half-cut before we even got to the ground, then after the match another few pints and then back to Hecky to either Comrades or The New Inn for some more pints. With not drinking so much anymore (thanks Colitis ) there's no point turning up that early, but if I still was I'd probably be interested in the Fanzone and other stuff, especially if I had any kids with me.

Literally just got back from a stormy florida this morning. Lots to admire on the food front dave - but them biscuit things are revolting! That.......and the breakfast cereal which is more sugar than cereal. Rest of the family loved lucky charms.......again not for me. Steaks / chicken / cobb salads - beautiful!!! Let me ask: what did you think when you tried biscuits and gravy Didnt try the gravy - but fried chicken in a "biscuit" from popeyes was dreadful! Tbf my experience full stop in popeyes was the same!!

That corner unit opposite Kingsgate was Burger King after it stopped being a Wimpy. Didn't think there had ever been a McDonald's there, but now I'm second-guessing myself. The Wimpy has always been where it is now. The old Burger King opposite Kingsgate was the Burns Tavern. There were two Wimpys in Huddersfield for a while in the late 80s-early 90s. The one on Cloth Hall Street that's still there, and what is now FootAsylum across from Kingsgate. No idea what it was before Wimpy, but it was definitely a Wimpy when i was a kid, a friend had their birthday party there. Later on it was Burger King.

There was an 'American' burger place, on the left hand side of Trinity St? before you get to Greenhead Park - we used to go there for birthdays late 70's, 80's - anyone remember it or what that was called? I seem to remember an ice cream shop with a white porch on the pavement near it too??

Hi Dave - any chance you can post future Diaries on other platforms? After this week’s events here and the owner of X being a bad actor in it all, I’m done with the X/Twitter platform, and I expect a few others will be the same. The diaries are a great little snippet of positivity and information that I look forward to. Seconded. I also deleted my very long held Twitter account over the weekend for the same reason.

What a great bar Burns Tavern was, I looked into reopening it a few years back with a mate who had a pub in Brighouse, but the old cellar was filled in along with other issues.......Morrisons took it on but didn't last long (due to space?), the unit looks a lot bigger nowadays.

Those "biscuits" are horrendous 🤢 Occasionally frequented a KFC in San Jose that would stick a "biscuit" in with the chicken. I just saw it as a teacake but it was odd inclusion. KFC over there was vile, by the way.

As a citizen in a free and democratic country, I prefer to make my own mind up. Other platforms is a very good idea but not for the reason you suggest.

Boneless banquets, mini-fillets or the popcorn chicken is what I'll usually go for now. I used to go in the one at Marsh a lot but these days you can't get in the door for Just Eat drivers and fucking pushbikes.

It's baffling how KFC have lost the ability to make decent fried chicken! Soggy, dripping in fat and the skin falling off, every single time!

And I don't blame them, really. That might well be it, the staff there do seem particularly miserable when you compare to McDonald's etc. Still you'd think a large franchise would have some sort of quality control. I guess as long as people are stupid enough to buy it they don't really care.

On the Town website in the article re the new shelter behind the South Stand it mentions "post match" drinks. Great idea if true Oh wait till you guys see what’s in store. Very excited Ok, can't wait (what's in store a clue?), possibly a merchandise van?.......Just seen your tweet about heading home, safe journey back & don't be a stranger.

Root beer floats, are they what we used to call ice cream sodas, scoops of ice cream in a glass of pop? Loved them as a kid Nice...Coke Float in the place at the far end of the main entrance in the indoor market (had Knickerbocker Glory's occasionally but they were rubbish) was my reward/payment for carrying a bag of shopping home. Mums (definitely mum's, not dads - they were watching World of Sport or reading newspapers) used to carry about 6 bags somehow?! Sometimes we caught the bus, but not always...it was at least 4 miles home!! Loved rushing up to the bus stop to meet Mum getting off the bus on Sat afternoon. Knowing that my comic was hopefully in there somewhere. No car, no supermarket, Mums did all the legwork in shopping for groceries in town and carting them around and then to the bus stop. Happy times when you’re a kid….

When you put it like that, it sounds like we're going to be involved in a follow up to The Prisoner.
