Boss is a Bolton fan, he’s been livid at how they’ve started the season. No Plan B, seems like they try and pass through every team ‘Evatt’s got 10 games to save his job’. No also says a Duff team always does a number on them, he’s convinced we’ll be too strong for them. All adds up to another loss on the road for us 😬 I think that’s because generally duffs teams have been very good out of possession and pressed high,Bolton like to play out so duff teams in the past have strangled them and they couldn’t get out.Similar to us against Peterborough who like to do the same(certainly second half) Since then all the other 3 league games teams have let us have the ball and they haven’t wanted it in their own 3rd so we/duff has had to play differently. I’m hoping like your boss says that he can do a number on evatt again if he stubbornly sticks to his principles! That's pretty much what he's said. He also asked how we've been playing, sounds like it was slightly anti-football with Barnsley parking the bus and playing for a 1-0 - not wanting to get caught on the ball. Not like we've been playing at all post-Peterborough.

Not like we've been playing at all post-Peterborough. I’d imagine that’s how we play all season against the so called better sides who try play “football”.Let them have it to an extent and press and set traps to pinch it in good areas. Then play quickly. Against other sides a lot will come and make it so that we can’t press them by simply not having the ball in their own third, there will obviously be the odd exception to that. Duff has been fairly well renowned for his teams off the ball work, certainly at Cheltenham and to some extent at Barnsley he will have had to do that with the squads he’s had. He may be learning on the job himself trying to get a team functioning at its best when we have a lot of the ball and the onus is on us. As a side note were we to get promoted he could largely revert to what he knows has worked for him in the past and be very good off the ball with a fair amount of teams up there expected to dominate the ball against us. Back to this season hopefully he can work out a way to get the team playing consistently well when in control. Hope that all makes sense..but waffly.

As much as my brain is telling me ‘this is town, of course we’re gonna be just as shit as we were last time out’. My heart is telling me that Ladapo is gonna score at least two and the feel good factor will be immediately back.

I'd be happy with a point and finishing the game with 11 men

Really hope Hogg is left out the starting 11
Would love to see the Lapado up front with Koroma but I’d assume he’d maybe come off the bench for koroma / Marshall after an hour or so.
Looking forward to seeing the new left sides centre half start; I do think he’ll be a good asset this seasons. Spencer was appalling and getting worse each game in that role. Blessing in disguise that shoulder injury as morbid as that sounds
Also looking forward to see hodge getting a start

Hi guys, interesting to read your comments regarding our match this weekend. Neither of us has had a stellar start though yours is better than is Wanderers. Our new signings certainly haven’t fitted in yet and in fact seem if anything to have unsettled the side. Duff doesn’t really have to be a master tactician to know what to expect from an Evatt team and indeed his refusal to change or amend his system is a constant source of annoyance at the Reebok but you never know, maybe he’ll have a surprise ready for tomorrow. It will be great to have another big crowd, so much more atmosphere when the better sides come so hopefully it will be a good game with a positive result. If I’m honest I’m not confident. We just seem anll over the place at the moment and whilst I’m sure we’ll have a lot of the ball we don’t seem to know what to do with it other than pass sideways. Duff will know that and also that if he does gives us space we do have the players to exploit it so I’m expecting a pretty tight, dour match. At the end of the day we need all three points tomorrow otherwise the atmosphere will get toxic very quickly. One or two have asked about parking and there’s plenty on the Retail Park, 5 hours free or Tesco and of course paid parking at the ground. Wherever you park expect a wait to leave though. Looks like being a good day weather wise so let’s hope the footballs as good? 😁

If it’s nil nil and both side aren’t performing then both sets of fans might get toxic.

You have a good shout for both those tips, I think if any team wins it could be a solitary goal (under 1.5 @3/1), if its one of the Town front men (CM,FL,JK) you can get a 50/1 scorecast for either one.......Is Scott Arfield back tomorrow? Anyway, lets hope the trotters are booed of again in this home game..UTT.

Well unless we put a better show in than recently we may well be booed off again and to be fair they deserve it the way they’ve shaped. I have to admit I’m not confident and I think Ladapo could be an important signing for you especially as he must like playing Wanderers having done us at both Rotherham and Ipswich in the past. It’s frustrating because on paper we have a cracking squad but so far they just haven’t gelled and I think the Wembley disaster is still playing on their minds. We need a good win and I’d like to think we’d get it tomorrow against a good side like yours. Scott Arfield is fit and may start tomorrow but nobody’s guaranteed but he does look better than most so I hope he does. 😁

Reading, the article, it must be from a near neighbour of mine as I can walk to the ground in less than ten minutes, although tomorrow I shall probably park at the railway station to get an early train then tram to Bury to join the Wander 2 Wanderers walk. Re earlier about parking, if you want to get off speedily, your probably need to park on or near the A6 and walk from there - probably similar to me parking in Fartown for 20 minute walk to the JSS (making it easy to get away up to Ainley Top after home matches).

F*** sake. What’s the best way to come from Chester then? Got 2 tickets for this Northampton game😡 Guessing I’ll have to come off the M60 somewhere.. Get on M60 ring road to Oldham then over tops

Bolton, similar ground, similar sized club, played them many times upand down the league, strangely I can't remember anything memorable apart from regular floodlight climbing. The FA cup game mid 70s was a bit tasty but I didn't go.

I have a good feeling about this fixture , I think Town will beat Bolton, 1-3 to Town , it would be nice to see the new man come on and score (Freddie). I've gone for a draw in the prediction league, but I'm tempted to change it to 1-2 with FL scoring the winner on debut. But then I think "what if I change it and we draw?". Hate these stupid dilemmas, had the same should I/shouldn't I feelings when I stopped doing the lottery You’d be a nightmare trying to choose a car space in an empty parking lot, I reckon you’re guaranteed a minimum to change your spot 3 times 😂

Looking forward to tomorrow as for the first time this season I’ll get to the best footy bar for the first time this season for one reason or another such as being on mainland, being on holiday, early kick offs or Friday kick offs for Town and last week’s rancid international matches on the Saturday...
So gettin hyped up already with a wee Friday livener of course... 😊
Now there are two Bolton Wanderers fans on The Whisky Isle, a Scottish lad who’s dad is from there and ma old, excellent and now retired doctor Dr. Knowles from Laphroaig. Jean as I refer to her now is originally from Bolton and many of her family attended the now retired Brunden Park (which I think I’ve got correct as it can be confused with Brunton Park (Carslile) and Blundell Park (Grimsby)... So normally me and Jean would be exchanging texts as things were happening in the clash of The Terriers and The Trotters, however we shan’t be tomorrow as tragically her nephew David collapsed with a currently suspected heart attack while attending The Nations League game between Gibraltar and Lithuania and despite everyone’s best efforts he could not be saved and has very sadly been taken at the age of 31... 😢
Jean’s father who died a couple of years ago is laid to rest at Kilnaughton Cemetery on the south side of The Whisky Isle and his grandsons ashes will eventually be with him here in Scotland... David Knowles’ was a journalist and podcaster mainly about The Ukraine with a paper in England called The Daily Telegraph and having clicked in today ‘Daily Telegraph - David Knowles obituary / eulogy’ it came up. It mentions his love of holidays with his auntie Jean in The West Island and the fun he always enjoyed and beautiful testimonies to his young and short life are in abundance as indeed are comments from folks who knew him personally and also from those who didn’t but really enjoyed his podcasts and written work, it doesn’t say he was a Bolton Wanderers fan, but I’m sure with his daddy being from there his auntie Jean, his late grandpa Alan and his wee granny of 96 Mary who lives near Jean here, that he’d probably have had a soft spot for The Wanderers.... (R.I.P. David Knowles even though I never knew him personally)...
So tomorrow will have that poingient tinge of being thinking’ of ma Bolton Wanderers supporting buddy Jean and just not being our usual ding dong of texts about Wanderers and Town...
However the footy is the footy and Jean would expect nothing less than me to be rooting for a HTAFC win of course and that’s of course what I’ll be doing in the best footy pub here in Islay...
Will give ma usual Saturday prediction in around 14 hours time tomorrow !

Maybe the wrong thread but…. I’m in Greece and tried to get the game on line on the official HTAFC site, we also have VPN here but it’s saying it’s unavailable here. Does anyone know if that’s right or maybe too early to try? Might ring town later but not sure they’ll have anyone at home 🏡 n match day? Thanks

If Duff goes with Hogg, Evans and Wiles in midfield again then I'll be shocked. We won't win many of our tougher games this season with that midfield 3

At the risk of stating the obvious - if using a VPN it needs to be pointed at a non-UK server...

Bolton, similar ground, similar sized club, played them many times upand down the league, strangely I can't remember anything memorable apart from regular floodlight climbing. The FA cup game mid 70s was a bit tasty but I didn't go. We beat them 4-0 at home in 1990 just 4 days after they'd beaten us 5-1 on aggregate in whatever the League Cup was called at the time. Jacko's debut and a Keith Edwards hat-trick, I think. A 4-1 win at home in September 2015 after being a goal down, under Chris Powell, (which can't be right, because we were terrible in every match he managed). Nothing much else, apart from Stevie's late winner at Burnden Park in 1968. The only thing I recall about the cup game was the remarkable crowd at a 4th division ground (27,896 from memory, but might not be bang on). Today's game is the 104th against them. Birmingham must be the most with 121.
