Great news. They are the laughing stock of super league playing in a stadium with a capacity 4 times too big for them Good luck to them though, I want success for all Huddersfield teams Shake ya head pal, seen worse crowds with town at Leeds road

I bet Davy wishes he still had those £2 shares. Why?

I'm not sad about the Giants going as that's for the best, but of course the situation is sad. The stadium was built as this optimistic, forward-looking investment in the town of Huddersfield, and its proud sporting institutions. Nobody has the vision, pride, or money to even think about a thing like that here nowadays. It's ultimately a sign of how the country has gone to the dogs in the time since. The council can't hold up their end of the bargain because their funding has been progressively eviscerated by the government since 1994. They couldn't even afford to put a rugby league museum in the very building rugby league was founded in. For 20 out of 30 years of the stadium's operation, it has been mismanaged and allowed to decay. Town have been stumping up the cost for a while, but this looks to be creating the conditions for Nagle (or hopefully the club) to own the site outright. While a big swathe of land in Town gets taken up for another rugby stadium. Will probably have some new student flats included as part of the planning permission! To me its just a sign of how rugby league isnt particularly popular. So you end up with them playing in a good stadium for very little cost, but one thats massively too big for them. They had the St Helens game on TV not long ago, which Im guessing is a big fixture for the giants.. and dont know what the official attendance was but the actual crowd there cant have been more than 2000 from what I saw. They could have played the game in a park with the fans standing round the pitch.

Bore off all you Giants haters, Rugby league is a man's game Can be a Giants hater without disliking RL... What about those Town fans from Dewsbury or Batley? Are we not allowed to support our local RL side? 🤔

You say "whatever floats your boat" but you clearly aren't happy with a difference of opinion, are you?

I wonder if the Giants will stay at JSS until ground built or play elsewhere in the mean time? Dewsbury and Batley grounds would suffice for example.

The Giants haven't had an attendance over 4000 since July and the recent game against London Broncos attracted less than 3500.

Does your 0 button not work or something Just checked and it says their average attendance last season was 5,247. Probably almost as many away fans as home fans at a good few of those games though. Based on this seasons attendances 10 times too big rather than 4 times is probably more accurate. Almost as many away fans than home fans. What planet are you on? There’s hardly any away fans go to away games now in super league. The South stand has on average between 200 to 600 away fans in it this season and that’s not including London or Catalan who bring double figures.

Look at the results, apathy with where Watson was leading the club and also the season being over even by then. That’s why the crowds are so low this season. And unlike town do the giants only count who’s in the stadium not on tickets sold. So if that was the case there would be higher crowds throughout the season.

Probably since sky broadcasted more games, losing what I would class as more historic clubs such as Bradford and trying to promote French and Canadian clubs into it. Regardless, the ground is too big for rugby and always will be. It’s in the best interest of both football and rugby that a change is made.

Quite a few at Dewsbury too. Not sure I've seen any Leeds fans there. Although after this season there aren't many fans there full stop.

The RL product in this country is just a bit rubbish. It used to be head and shoulders a better watch than Union at club level but give me RU any day of the week nowadays. Of course, international RU has always pissed all over RL.
I sometimes watch the Aussie RL on a Saturday morning (State of Origin) and it’s brilliant in comparison to Super League. Faster, slicker, better skill sets, great handling and keeping plays alive and massive crowds.

Good for them. I hope it gives them a bit more identity. The JS has always felt like the Town stadium. The Giants emblem is there but it just feels like they are guests rather than shared.
RL has lost support, which is a shame but I don’t know how you change that. People make their own choices and football is just more popular.

Wonder if the agreement is Nagle takes control of the stadium and land then leases the driving range to Davy at a good deal to allow them to build their stadium there? The car parks will already be there ready to use.

I'm in the town centre this morning and there's three ft weeds adorning the pavements on either side of the ringroads bags of litter strewn in and amongst. This is the gateway of the town centre. Council doesn't even have a budget for basic gardening. We are lucky that Nagle wants to invest in Huddersfield because there doesn't seem to be a right lot of anything going for it.

Somewhere in my ageing memory, I’m sure I once read that all super league stadiums have too have a minimum of 10,000 capacity Just had a quick search online regarding Super League stadium requirements Capacity – minimum 5,000 Seats – minimum 2,000 Sponsors’ Seats: minimum 200, under cover and cordoned off from public areas by a physical barrier. Corporate Lounges: over 200. Directors Box: 40 seats minimum, all under cover. Could the soon (?) to be demolished Gas Works site be suitable? The use of that land remains un-designated so wouldn’t be hard to get planning approval. Close enough to make use of the parking at the John Smiths too, ties in with the redevelopment of the ‘Leeds Road corridor’ etc. Good spot I think and good luck to The Giants. Anything that has the potential to benefit the town as a whole gets my thumbs up. You could quite easily argue that the project that was originally conceived for the stadium and surrounding area has been a failure. Hopefully there’s some deep pockets about and the council don’t get in the way.

It’s got to be better for the local community to have more decent facilities and having more professional sporting teams helps that.
I can’t speak from experience, but I’d imagine it also helps local grass roots and kids getting into sports, which can’t be a bad thing surely.
RL has lost its way a bit, but it’s always been stronger west of the Pennines, which shows in their attendances.
Hopefully this will be a good move and give local sports and communities a boost…

The Giants seemed to take the re-branding of the John Smiths this summer with good grace. As I may have mentioned... I wonder if KN is providing some funding for the new stadium?

Also EVERY game is on TV as of this season, which will likely kill attendances even further NEXT season, now that fans have got to grips with that fact. The one advantage they have that might retain that core 3000 or so, is that season tickets are so incredibly cheap (effectively rugby clubs continue to exist due almost entirely to the funding they get from Sky)...under 30 year olds pay just £90!! Thats a level that people will pay even if they think, "I might go to 5 games...and watch all the rest in the pub or at home".

The old stadium was demolished and all that survives is a rugby pitch and the cricket pitch. I'm almost certain the council would not give planning permission on that site for a new stadium. A few gallons of Weed killer and it'll be like new Sad to see as I played on the ground in 1969 I think, in the local schools cup final.
