Yup - I suspect its highly likely this is the site that KD missed out on a couple of years ago...and why I think Leeds Road playing fields is an actual realistic option. Surrounding what is currently the all weather pitch, it would be easy to throw up a stand like the South Leeds stadium, with a small terrace along the edge next to Peace Pit lane...expand the car park, and, ideally stick a roundabout on Leeds Road, and you're done.

I wonder what they will call!! the new stadium, The Gasworks Stadium, The Davey Arena, Uncle Kens. It needs to be an amusing one like the 'tough sheet stadium '. We should get sponsorship from a Hong Kong based snooker cue manufacturers called 'Foo cue's' and call it the 'Foo cue stadium'!!! 🤣

In was told last that the favorite is the old gasworks land on St Andrews road where they also have the car boot one Sunday in the month while the other 3 Sundays are at the stadium car park. That is a big site and they could maybe use the old gasometer once it is dismantled for parking, but there could also be other sites.

The problem with the old gas container/s they can easily be dismantled but it is the clean up of years of industrial waste that is the problem, and part of that clean up is arsenic so in total you could be look at 3/4 year's before it could be used. Is there a lot of industrial waste from a gas storage site?

That would be an excellent area for a new stadium, easy access by road and not far from the station. That whole are needs redeveloping and is run down and i go to the car boot on a Sunday and i didn't even know all that land was there.

My supervisor at work goes to all the Giants games, went last night, works for the club on matchdays as well, has also spoken to those higher up in the club and she said the same re first choice is by the Gasworks and having it done in 3 years. That's the intention anyway

I'm a land remediation engineer who has worked on plenty of gas holder sites. To be honest Arsenic is probably towards the "least of your concerns" list of contaminants in comparison tp what could be on the site. I agree that all in it would probably take 3/4yrs regardless of how much remedial work has to be done. It ain't cheap to do either.

Quite a few Town fans watch Batley it's a cracking sociable day out. Love going to Batley giants season ticket holders used to get in for a fiver, Batley are a great club, food was brilliant also I’ve many many happy memories of Batley as well folks... One of ma bestest ever buddies came from there Stevie Maude (24-6-1961 till 14-12-2011) 💔 - Sorely missed but fondly remembered Stevie Bhoy as we called ya... Was there long before I got to Huddersfield Town games always crazy yet cracking times and memories - all night drinking at 30,Preston Street, also fab times visiting his family in Soothill (quite posh) and Chinewood (affectionately known as CRIMEwood) ! Sessions in The Batley IDL snooker club, The Union Rooms, The Commercial, The Frontier, Just really good times though I didn’t spout off too much about Huddersfield Town as it seemed everyone supported Leeds ☹️ And Stevie and his brothers all big Manchester United fans used to get a hard time verbally only I’m pleased to say and laughed it off by saying Liverpool were the only team they worried about and not Leeds United for sure... After Stevie broke up with his Scottish girlfriend he went back to Batley and was a steward for a bit at Mount Pleasent I think was the name of Batley RLFC Stadium... Apt the pleasent bit as I’ve very plesent memories of Stevie and Batley !

Never really done Batley, been for the rugby loads of times, only ever did the variety club once to see Chubby Brown, the heavy wollen district is a pit, Dewsbury makes Huddersfield looks like Chester. Dewsbury, Batley, Cleckheaton and Hecky, wow what pits the Bronx district of Leeds, only decent thing about it is Batley RLFC.

Those suggesting the old gas works site (not the gas holder site), would it be large enough to fit a (small) stadium on? If you look at the size of just the Town pitch on Google maps it wouldn’t leave much room for the surrounding stands.

The heavy woolen area is run down but boy you can't compare Dewsbury to Huddersfield. I travel all over the country in my job and i would say Huddersfield is regarded as been rough but there again a lot of people tell me how nice the countryside is.

I have been down there this morning to the car boot sale and it is plenty big enough, it is surprising just how big it is.
