The midfield has to get closer to each other. We have to be tighter out of possession. I would also want someone bigger and stronger in the midfield to supplement the technically neat and tidy players we have. With that in mind, if we were to play 3-5-2, this would be my team:
Nicholls
Spencer Lees Lonwijk
Sorensen Evans Hodge Iorpenda Miller (if fit, Headley if not)
Koroma Ladapo
The issue has been that players have been isolated in and out of possession. We’ve seen ways of playing 3-5-2 where players are not isolated. And that’s what we should work on if we persist. Not throwing bodies to the touch lines to stretch the play, meaning we lose control. Plus, a bit more power in midfield with Iorpenda.

I’m wondering if Kasumu could maybe get a start at right wing back today? He’s always done a very decent job there and Sorensen is in poor form. Playing him there and Brodie right cb(though I’m increasingly not sure of Spencer at cb) means we can change in game to a 4 at the back of things aren’t working.Brodie can shift to right back with headley or miller dropping to left bank and Kasumu can shift into midfield and you could go something more like a 4-4-2 diamond. It just means that you have more ability or confidence to change it in the first half without having to make a substitute. Need to squeeze Kasumu on somewhere just for the energy. I’d certainly be tempted.I mean Sorensen was originally a midfielder and he undoubtedly has energy. But defensively he’s nowhere near what Kasumu is and I think maybe with his form as it is it’s potentially not a bad shout to leave him out for a couple of games. We could also go 3-4-3 with Kasumu as wing back that could shift into a 4-3-3.It just gives that bit more adaptability within the first half of a game.Obviously you can always make subs but managers don’t really want to do that in a first half. Also to Kasumu he brings energy yes and also pace.Tbh he’s very similar to Sorensen other than Sorensen probably superior in terms of passing but Kasumu superior in terms of defensively.

Also as a side note…we’re playing in the red third strip….I believe we’ve won both games comfortably and haven’t lost or conceded a goal scoring 6…forget your tactics and everything else that’s all that counts!! Football fans eh

Football fans eh It probably dazzles the opposition into dizziness, looks like those things you used to stare at to try and make out and object, it's a disgusting shirt.

Spencer right wing back and Kasumu in centre mid it looks like
Sorensen, Hodge, Ladapo and Wiles dropped. Kane not even on the bench but he is down there

So the only player that's put in a shift over the last two games in back on the bench? 🤔

Other than Hodge not starting I'm not unhappy with thay because Lonwijk can cover Headley and Spencer won't pretend he's a winger like Sorensen does

Dropping hodge to play two cms who can’t pass is an interesting one

Hopefully means we’ve got Kasumu and Hogg behind the ball and Evans in front. Harsh on Hodge though.

On paper it is an extremely defensive 352
I keep saying that Duff won't turn his back on 352 as they've invested so much time in to it

Dropping hodge to play two cms who can’t pass is an interesting one The last month has surely shown how much we’ve missed Kasumu’s energy. Only midfielder with physicality that can go past a man with the ball. Would like to think with a bit more confidence we’d have Hodge in for Hogg but can see why he’s done it.

Someone had to make way for Hoggy, obviously. Game management perhaps, with Hodge coming on for last 20 - 30 minutes?

Think it's really harsh on Hodge he did exactly what he was supposed to on Tuesday, probably the only one that did. Pleased Kasumu is back, knowing he's fit then him and Hodge I think would compliment each other perfectly though.
Guess Sorenson had to be dropped and there's only really Spencer that could play there (Kasumu could obviously but happier for him to be in the middle where we've got nobody else to cover space) but not sure about it.
I'm presuming Kasumu will be deeper than Wiles would be so it's a slight tweak but a bit disappointed it's still 3 centre backs.

I bet when we got relegated to league 1 nobody expected us to set up with 7 defensive minded players in games?
Nagle: "We set up too defensively in games last season"
Duff: "Hold my glass"

Is Duff watching a different game to me, cus the only player who actually looked decent in Hodge, he leaves out. I get the wholesale changes to try and shake things up, but not at the expense of the one player who stood out among the shite. After the last 2 games cant see anything other than a Reading win tbh. If they do their homework, they win cus we have shown we have no plan B or C.

is that. I guess it's hit and hope football with the only two players who can pass the ball dropped. Hodge, MoM from Tuesday (not saying much I know) and Kane not even on the bench.

Glad Kasamu is playing as he offers some energy to the midfield, if he doesn’t get injured again.
Aside from that, quite happy with the lineup. Hopefully a few tactical tweaks with the midfield supporting each other.

Looking forward to watching us passing it sideways then backwards then lumping it forward to nobody.
Rinse, repeat..

I bet when we got relegated to league 1 nobody expected us to set up with 7 defensive minded players in games? Nagle: "We set up too defensively in games last season" Duff: "Hold my glass" 100% correct. The result and performance is key for Duff now. That as you say is very defensive.
