Duff keeps mentioning the trust with the fans as to why their is a lack of atmosphere but I'm not sure his football plan is going to change that.... .....I still see very risk averse football with a squad that is full of competent League One footballers. I'd say Miller is one of the only ones who gets me excited (very loosely used term) when we're in the final third. Is that down to Duff or the players? This is massive in the respect of generating an atmosphere. Its not just at Town atmospheres have suffered, its a problem in pretty much all stadiums and it goes in line to the expansion of teams playing the style of football they do. Lots of possession based football with very little risk isn't going to get anyone of thier feet. If an atmosphere is to be generated it will mainly be started on the field. That energy then feeds into to stand. Sitting and watching pass after pass with litte progression may look nice, but nobody is enthused by it. It sucks the life out of the crowd and rhe atmosphere suffers as a result. So many times yesterday (and in general) we have a 1v1 on and we are reluctant to try get past them. Spaces open up and instead of driving into it we make a safe sideways pass. Shooting opportunities pop up and we don't take it often, instead electing to pop a pass outwide. A lot used to moan about players like VLP and Burgzorg, but at least they tried something different which got you on your feet. If the club/team/manager want some noise in the stadium they have to play more exciting football. Its really as simple as that.

Would defo agree with this.I don’t think duffs football is completely boring but it’s hardly edge of the seat stuff. I also think maybe 50% of the fan base that attend games will have been used to more “old school” football that was more for want of a better word “swashbuckling”. It was probably on the whole a lot lower on quality technically wise but tackles were flying in balls were flashing across the box and generally referees let the game flow more. Add to that that teams these days defensively are so much more organised and difficult to break down that it can take real real quality to open them up,something which is hard to come by the lower down you go. All the ingredients in the mix just make for the game being less exciting now, unless you’re watching the best of the best who are ridiculously good. I still do think if we can keep this run going and just keep winning games the atmosphere will come,if we’re still on it around Christmas time a few festive ales might help bolster the atmosphere too 😂 which is maybe something that could be taken forward into the new year.

Watching from home ,Sky Sports.Once again no commentator at the ground ,so no feedback as to the game whatsoever, and when it came up on the printer Towns first goal was greeted by the shitbag anchorman with "4 games beaten Huddersfield have scored against Exeter" The disrespect Town get from Sky is unbelievable.Lesser teams had reporters at the game, including camera reports..Wankers!

Town offered nothing other than a set piece goal and a shot from outside the area which went in. Exeter were unlucky and created more chances and didn't take the opportunity to beat us. Well that’s the thoughts from Gary Calderwell 😂😂😂 We had a perfectly good goal ruled out and the other one that was ruled offside was close. It’s probably the most comfortable we’ve looked at home this season and if we hadn’t eased off in the last 20 mins then we could’ve had a few more goals. As much as you're laughing, he is correct. Apart from picking the ball out of the net there keeper had nothing to do. As much as we dominated the game, yet again we created minimal chances. If Magennis puts that chance away, could have turned out differently. He certainly wasn't correct, I'm presuming the 2 very marginal offside goals weren't counted as the other 2 shots on target for us so that's 6 on target chances created to their one. Can't stand managers who try and make out their side were unlucky when they were in fact well beaten. At least Bristol Rovers put us under pressure for a fairly lengthy spell in the second half, I'd say Exeter were a worse side than them. A soft header that was comfortably saved and a bizarre effort which he should have done better with was all they had to offer. I even felt sorry for their decent noisy away following after the game, thinking that was a long way to come for such a poor showing from their team.

VLP was so underrated. If he had of had consistent end product, he'd never have been at Town. He carried the ball, drove us forward and had a bit of magic. He also did his defensive work.
Key player in us going up.

Its an expected speech from a defeated manager these days.. He mistakes possession of the football for his team having control. One attempt on target in 95 minutes might get you a result once in a blue flood.. Being 2 down and having useless possession actually helped us out. Had they lumped it up and chased us etc, they may have had another shot on goal. Their number 10 ran the second half but for no gain, so somebody at Exeter got it badly wrong yesterday, perhaps??? Other than the few minutes after half time I was never worried that we were not going to win it, which does not happen often for me..

Either you don't attend games or have your eyes closed for most of the game. He might have been a greedy bastard but at least he tried to make something happen, your observation is absurd. Both VLP and Burgzorg were flair players, which is clearly not like in the stands at Town.

All I can really say is: playing okay-ish and winning is FAR better than playing shite and losing That's where I'm at with it at the minute, it's not a thrill a minute, in fact most of the time, it's pretty dull but we are winning, we are maintaining at top 6 position and we are keeping on the coat tails of the automatic spots. Come Christmas and beyond, the business end of the season, we can add a few in the window and steam up to take 2nd.

Always best to have a stable defence. Nobody gets promoted in October / November. We just need to be in or around the top 6 come the end of February. We also need players back from injury as we’ve far too many out. I like what I hear from duff too. Level headed approach and while we aren’t tearing teams apart we are bossing games at the moment

All I can really say is: playing okay-ish and winning is FAR better than playing shite and losing Some of the goals scored in the First division and the defending yesterday makes us look like the Arsenal unbeaten back 4... Its a limited division... If we get overly exciting it might affect the defending a bit??? Get a system, get it working and stick with it, seems the best approach, if thats less exciting than some crave, tough.. We demand that we are competetive, in whatever way the manager uses his squad and picks his tactics and we are up to now, the flowery bits might come along.

I don't think all the injuries have helped either, as you allude to. When we have a full compliment to choose from we maybe more effective unit in terms of scoring more goals.

A few comments on here as usual about the atmosphere at the game, or lack of it. FWIW I thought the crowd was quiet almost throughout.
However, I think the style of football we see most of the time nowadays if a major factor……. and I’m not talking specifically about Town, but about football in general. The tippy-tappy, risk-averse football played on a perfect playing surface is more akin to a chess match, and they’re played in silence!
If football was played how it used to be, more cut and thrust, more attacking down the wings ending in a cross (as a former left winger myself that’s what I always like to see most) and more aggression then I’m certain the crowd would respond.
It’s football in general, not specifically HTAFC, that is the problem.

(Ward should have been given onside, Healey was correctly adjudged to be offside)

For anyone questioning whether they were offside: (Ward should have been given onside, Healey was correctly adjudged to be offside) I think that Ward one is too tight to tell from the replay angle. They're the really hard ones for linesmen when you have 2 players running in opposite directions.

Overall it was a solid performance yesterday. Did, as some have perhaps hinted, Exeter give us too much respect? Maybe but had they come at us I think it would have been a different game.
We are now entering a part of the season where we just need to grind out results. It is only a few weeks on from when we looked anything but a potential promotion team. Since then the tactical tweaks and changes in personnel have given hope of a successful season, but there is still a lot to do. Every win we can achieve builds confidence and belief. At the end of the day promotion is the target and that is only achieved by consistency, hard work and ability.
I think Walton makes a pertinent point about the nature of football and how that impacts atmosphere. When you add our recent struggles and the degree of scepticism around the club in general it is hardly surprising that the stadium isn't bouncing. As such we perhaps need to give each other a bit of a break. If the team keep grinding out results the belief and atmosphere will come.

I don't like the modern game at all compared to how it used to be, i would play with two wingers and center forwards every game. Nothing wrong with hoof ball up to two big forwards either, when you had 40,000 in Leeds road roaring on the wingers it was brilliant.

Mike Hellawell, "Benny" Hill, you always expected them to have a go at beating the full back and putting a cross in. Seems to be a bit of a lost art these days.
