The atmosphere was very quiet today. Don't know who's to blame. But it was definitely quiet. The whole stadium needs to take responsibility...we can't rely on the designated singing section behind the goal to be the chief cheerleader as it's evident that's too much responsibility. Disagree, I thought the atmosphere was good. Thought the CSL did their bit to get it going second half as well. The CSL were great as always and the atmosphere was good when it got going but there was plenty of quiet stretches.

Easy win without really getting out of 1st gear, it makes me think "what may happen when everyones fit". As you would asume , when Helik,Balker,Nicholls,Koroma and Sorenson are all fit they start. That isn't even mentioning Hodge and yet we win today at a canter without even as i say going out of 1st gear. This league is poor and the club have to understand the oppotunity that is in front of them, to get back to the champ at the first time of asking. January could be key and bringing the right finishes to the season in, will be very important. Agree to a point......But I'm yet to be convinced we can actually get out of first gear. However, that might be just about enough at a a stretch..... This is kinda the point mate, we haven't got out of first gear yet. If we did i think we would blow teams away . There has being moments but not a sustained time, where we have gone beyond 1st gear.

I still see very risk averse football with a squad that is full of competent League One footballers. I'd say Miller is one of the only ones who gets me excited (very loosely used term) when we're in the final third. Is that down to Duff or the players?

Exeter were a strange side. Played out from back all the time but once they got to half way line they didn’t know what to do next. Played into our hands and never really put us under pressure. I think we have learnt to do the basics better. I thought Nigel was first class. I think he is learning that it’s great to play out from the back but if you need to sack it into row Z then do it. As for MOTM I’d give it to Kasumu. For a lad who has had major injuries issues he never pulls out of a challenge and is always looking to be involved.

I think today they sat very deep.No space..again.we’ve been there before this season and looked poor.Today without been fluent or exciting we were very competent with some nice bits of play sprinkled in.The ward offside goal was very nice. Games like today wiles and the likes who are clearly trying to be disciplined staying high even when in no space and with centre halves who can’t find them end up looking at times none existent!! Wiles probably gets mom because nobody was really stand out and he had a goal and an assist! Unfortunately at home I feel like we will see plenty games like this season at home where teams come and sit deep in shape. Luckily Exeter are supposedly very good defensively, others may not be. Ideally we have Sorensen back Pearson central and Spencer back at centre back to have two players carrying the ball out from centre back and better on the ball…But we have limited options and tbh lees and Pearson have performed very well recently! Not sure I’m understanding this, who sat deep, our defence? They spent most of their time on the half way line, we weren’t deep today at all, all three of our defenders were walking it over half way consistently? To be fair to Exeter they were really trying to push us back too? They weren’t deep apart from when we were on top?? Was referring to Exeter.Their back 5(and it was a 5 not a 3 with proper wing backs) consistently sat pretty deep.Wiles and Kane were pushed onto them in line or behind the strikers.Kane dropped deep first half sometimes but only in wider areas. All the space was wide tbh. They did break forward at times but generally tried to do so with a direct ball in behind and try to get 3/4 running onto it.We dealt with that comfortably. But when we had the ball they dropped in to a 5 with 3 in front. That’s what I was referring to with a lack of space centrally for wiles,Kane, the strikers. Thought considering we had some decent moves

Obviously they sat in when we were attacking as you say but they had more possession than us (48-52) and I thought were ripe for balls over the top much of the game. Amazing how we can see different games I suppose.

I love his attacking mindset but I was particularly impressed with his defensive smarts today. He didn't have too much to deal with, but most of it he did with class and intelligence.

Sorry to be late to the party I'm in Morlaix, Brittany for the weekend. Another good result, hopefully this sees the continuation of a good run with Duff working out his best formation and selection and we give KN encouragement to strengthen further in Jan. Who knows, automatic behind Brum could be doable?

Can’t grumble at a 2-0 home win, even if the relatively high-flying opposition showed how far we’ve fallen.
They didn’t give our midfield a lot of space, didn’t push on but compressed the middle of the pitch quite well. We missed Spencer as an overlapping centre back - Nigel gave us some joy the other side but on the right we were limited to Pearson trying extravagant balls that never came off.
Shame Ward’s goal was chalked out as that was a great move.

Biggest plus was Wrexham dropping points. If we don’t get top two it’s a huge letdown, still Mansfield and Wycombe to play but the standard overall is weak.

Town offered nothing other than a set piece goal and a shot from outside the area which went in. Exeter were unlucky and created more chances and didn't take the opportunity to beat us. Well that’s the thoughts from Gary Calderwell 😂😂😂
We had a perfectly good goal ruled out and the other one that was ruled offside was close. It’s probably the most comfortable we’ve looked at home this season and if we hadn’t eased off in the last 20 mins then we could’ve had a few more goals.

A very comfortable win against a side that even though they were losing showed very little urgency.
Stand out for me lonwijk, wiles, Kane.
If I had a criticism it would be we lack pace in the front three. Only miller seems to have that and he didn’t have his best game yesterday.
Evans needs some game time at Tamworth for me. Hard to keep coming on as sub but he looked off it yesterday so much so he may have injured himself getting in Pearson way.

Apart from picking the ball out of the net there keeper had nothing to do. As much as we dominated the game, yet again we created minimal chances. If Magennis puts that chance away, could have turned out differently.

If Magennis puts that chance away, could have turned out differently. Hardly yet again. One of our biggest issues has been taking chances. We have had 31 shots in target in the last 5 games, and scored 9 times. In the league, 61 shots on target. We had created the most big chances up to a couple of weeks ago. We hadn’t been clinical. Yesterday, we were. Their goalkeeper was also busier. Chapman had to make one save all afternoon. Theirs conceded twice, and had two (regulation) saves to make. They were lucky Ward was flagged when he went round the apparently unemployed goalkeeper. Exeter were reminiscent of when we went against better sides in our early Championship days. We had more zip, but they had more quality. We would be punished for that lack of quality, just as Exeter were yesterday.

Agree with the post saying Exeter set up was strange. They were so passive, almost like it was a friendly, they passed it slowly round the back at 2-0 down and didn’t really have a plan when passed half way line. For us they were a lovely side to play against, zero aggression, no fouling, no cheating etc
The win is fantastic and we basically held the ball on half way line, passed it around the back line, hit the occasional diagonal or worked the ball up into the corners and crossed it in.
1 x set piece goal and one where we shot from distance when Wiles had some space (thought the keeper was poor)
The questions on JSS atmosphere- i think it’s because we are effective, have a game plan but it’s not get off your seats excitement. We’ve not got for much magic on the ball that excites.
Think we are left looking at Lonwijk with his constant outside of the foot pass behind (let’s not discuss his lack of defensive concentration and urgency) and the fans are getting overexcited saying he’s next Paulo Maldini .

It's his weakness. He will get better with them. I hope. He's certainly not as weak as Smithies was at that stage of his career. He's better at punching them clear, a lot more calm and assured even if he does make a mistake. Not a total coincidence that we've improved defensively since he came in to the side. It’s also no coincidence that Miller’s return from injury has seen our form turn around. Going off injured at Bolton didn’t affect us for the rest of that game but we missed him in those painful defeats against Northampton, Blackpool and Reading. Since coming back into the team against Barnsley in the League, we’ve not looked back. 4 wins and a draw. Pearson also deserves massive credit for his performances since coming back into the starting 11. Solid. As previous seasons, he’s still got the knack for chipping in with a few goals that could prove vital in this campaign. Kasumu’s game seems to have matured this season. Gone are his rash tackles and the inevitable yellow card, leaving him walking on eggshells for the rest of the game. He’s turned into a steady hardworking lynchpin of the midfield. Yesterday felt very much like Bristol Rovers the week before. Could have scored more, and should have scored more, but overall, a very nice comfortable afternoon. I could get used to these Saturdays.

Yellow cards are mounting up with Evans one away from a ban (3L, EFL cup), Lonwijk is also on four but one caution was in the EFL Trophy & Kasumu is on three...... Hopefully they stay out of the refs book today? On a rare occasion no player was booked on either side. Ref Elliot Bell heads to Barnsley v Doncaster in EFL Trophy on Tuesday......You can fill your book, plus EFL need the brass.

Duff keeps mentioning the trust with the fans as to why their is a lack of atmosphere but I'm not sure his football plan is going to change that. I think a few have mentioned it but I can see similarities between him and Moore but the level of opposition is different. I think Moore would be doing something similar with this team at this level. I think people are sitting there thinking how did it come to this? We were in the Premier league playing against some of the best teams and players in the World and now we're playing Exeter. The standard in this league is very poor and that includes Town. There is nothing to get excited about. There is lots of head shaking. Lots of 'what the F was that'. Ripples of applause when we string half a dozen passes together. It's depressing. The fans are depressed. Not surprising. Maybe they should put something in the refreshments at half time.

Thought considering we had some decent moves I really didn’t think they did sit deep, I was surprised how high a line they were playing for most of the game. Obviously they sat in when we were attacking as you say but they had more possession than us (48-52) and I thought were ripe for balls over the top much of the game. Amazing how we can see different games I suppose. Yeh that’s what I mean, when we had the ball building from the back they sat with a flat 5 and a 3 or sometimes 4 in front, maybe I confused matters saying sat deep,it wasn’t like us under Moore at hull away last season. They probably weren’t edge of their 18 yard box but won’t have been far off. What that did was shut down all the space centrally(their manager said that was a plan after the game) and we had to go wide. It seemed to me that after recently going to a deeper lying 2 with a no10 in front that we reverted to Kasumu being fairly deeper and then Kane and wiles at times pushed right up,personally I’d have liked to have seen Kane drop in a bit more and get on the ball, though I suppose even if he had had no one followed him it’s created no more space and we’re a man lighter further up the pitch. All in all i agree with what most have said wasn’t the most exciting but very routine and very professional against a side who are good defensively.I thought we should have had one more as ward to me was on as was right in line, think Healey was just off(both took them well tbf) The xg for anyone interested shows us at 0.58 and the 1.08 but had wards counted ours would be higher and the chance their lad put over the bar boosted theirs a lot,and for me it was offside and a foul in the build up. Good win UTT

Especially if they have six fingers on one hand and play a banjo ! As for Town starting to look a cohesive unit at the back - Longwijk is pretty silky and Pearson as dependable as ever ! Roll on the next game.....I may not be getting my buttocks out on the town hall steps after all Pls no.... Think of the children And magistrate

I’d prefer Kane to be playing more like Woods was yesterday, passing us out of defence and into midfield. In this system though it’s the wide centre back that gets us out. Not just passing but carrying it out.
Fine when it’s Longwijk but Pearson gives the ball away going big when there’s not an easy pass on.

extended highlights from the Town V Exeter City game Impressed with the "Fucking shut up", during the last post when some yob thought it wise to start mouthing off. Kathryn had to apologise on the live commentary afterwards. Londwjik likes to get forward - he was in the six yard box when Danny Ward scored the non-goal. Healey was also onside... he feinted to go before the ball was passed through, that's when the linesman put his flag up. He was onside when the ball was actually played to him. I hope he can get a run of games as he's our best striker.
