If care remains free at the point of use, waiting times not increased and quality is not reduced what is the problem? Most European countries manage to have privately run hospitals providing state-funded health care without this being a problem. All GPs have always been private contractors to the NHS (they were never nationalised) and seem to be quite good at being caring professionals.

There's surely a difference between GPs and some of the firms that will come in - Tory donors I think they're called - to cherry pick profitable bits of the service leaving the NHS to deal with the bits they don't want.

All I do know is that the government have introduced lots of measures across different fields and the majority have been roundly condemned by experts involved.
I don't believe that the changes to the NHS are driven by the cuts Merk. They really are purely ideological.

Experts (managers on a lot of money) are worried about budget cuts or changes eh!? Go figure.
Unemployment can rise and rise for me as long as the public sector workers come down.
You could afford 1M people of the dole for a far smaller fraction of what some of these unecessary public sector workers cost.
People made a load of Thatcher's unemployment yet she brought our budget into surplus and lowered the debt significantly.
Waste of time going down this route you bunch of Labour loving, financially ignorant plebs as you will only lose...again.

Well as we've shown time and again, Thatcher didn't lower debt.
The Tories have a window of a couple of years to keep shafting away at all the things they've always wanted to before people start compalining I reckon. We'll see what happens when they finally achieve their dream of private wealth for the few and public squalor for all.

Pardon me asking but what are the figures for tax avoidance in the country, compared to whats actually spent on social security and the like?
It'd be also interesting to know how much the top 10 or 20% earn in the country,and who's going to benefit (npi) from the supposed changes to corporation tax

Yes I have. I can't be bothered to find the data again but it wasn't that long ago and at the time you dismissed it because the people who'd calculated it at the National Audit Office had included all the numbers in it. Your argument was that if you left some of them out, Thatcher had reduced debt rather than increased it. the NAO was being unfair by using all the information, not leaving the bits of it out that didn't suit you. I see Cameron has been exposed today as the cuts start to hit all those workshy scabs providing 24/7 care for severely disabled children. Now if he could only deal with this one case for the sake of the papers, then get back to fucking the system that supports them all, we can let the matter drop. |

The ERM fucked Major up but then even he brought it back down. These are the only 2 prime ministers in recent times to exit with year on year cuts in the deficit.
Doesn't take too much working out which pair of pricks totally fucked it all up. Clue - their surnames begin with a B.

This isn't a party political point because obviously we were fucked by the last Labour government and are about to get fucked at both ends by a new Government with an approach that includes any amount of radical thinking except anything to do with its relationship with big businesses. I see they've still got £20 billion to spend on a new train between Birmingham and London but then that goes to their friends, not to some poor people trying to help their kids who can only get a response from the money grubbing titcakes in our political class when they become an embarrassment in the media. It's going to be open season soon, because all you need to know about David Cameron is in that one story. I bet that poor woman would love to have enough income to get a break from looking after her disabled chiuld, like the Camerons had. But never mind, he'll write a strongly worded letter to one or two people for the papers then get back to sawing away at the branches. |

If Cameron wants to get bogged down in the detail or isolated in individuals then that is up to him.
The choices are quite simple.

Gold plated pensions? If you look at tax relief the private sector actually gets a better deal from pensions than the public sector.

The simple facts are that tax relief on private sector pension funds amounted to more than was paid out in private sector pensions, so essentially the government is funding all private sector pensions. Public sector pensions paid out are considerably less.
