Appeared suddenly in the betting market. Would appear to tick a lot of the boxes required He certainly ticks the 'hugely uninspiring and piss poor' box which seems to be one of the main qualifying criteria.

NEVER thought I'd say this, but I'd rather have a knuckle dragger like you as manager than him.

What amazes me is that no matter who is linked the majority of posts are negative. I feel sorry for the next guy already and he hasn't even been appointed.

We wouldn't want a man who has won promotion to the premier league, has plenty of premier league experience and also won a major trophy ?

Give me Mcleish over them two any day.

Billy Davies has won promotion to the premiership with two average squads and he kicks players' arses but a lot on this board don't want him either.. It is Amazing how many players and managers are not good enough for us.

I was gonna set up a thread about this next point, but I don't want to upset 3pipes. Taking into account Davvas comment, can people name three people (realistic ones), who they would be happy with. From the names mentioned I would say I'd be happy with McCleish, Hughton, Powell, Mackay. Alex McLeish has had success at other clubs. Don't see why people would be unhappy with him.

I very very rarely (if ever) dream about football, but I woke up in a cold sweat last week thinking we'd appointed BD. Anybody else and I'll trust Deano but BD and I'll have to find a new hobby or I'll fail the "You must get behind the new Manager test".

Not to worry it is always the way & only one of them can be appointed. As soon as they are we will find a thousand & one reasons why they were always the right choice. As soon as they have a couple of results under their belt they will be lauded as the best gaffer in years. And then....

His record, starting with the most recent: Nottingham Forest - In charge for about 6 weeks - resigned after being messed about by the board of directors. Aston Villa - Only there for 1 season, but that season was crap. Birmingham - Relegated, but he got them promoted as well and won them a major trophy along the way. Getting a side promoted to the premier league and only managing to keep them there for 2 years doesn't count as failure in my book. Scotland - Only there for qualifying for 1 major tournament. Very nearly qualified for Euro 2008. Rangers - Back in the days when the Scottish Premier League was a two horse race, he won 2 out of 4. Also got to the last 16 of the Champions League (missing out on the quarter finals on away goals), with success in the Scottish Cup along the way. Hibernian - Promoted to the SPL at the first attempt, had them finishing 3rd - attracting some decent players there. Motherwell - One good season, two that were a bit shit. All in all, a mixed bag, but not the unmitigated disaster that some people portray him as. I could quite easily name 3 people that are realistic and I would be happy with. I cannot name a single person that is realistic and that everybody would be happy with. As it happens, the most favoured manager on here appears to be Malky MacKay, and I don't want him here.

To be honest I don't really like the guy much, but I'd have to say he's a better option than pretty much everybody else in the bookie's list. Let's get him in.

Alex McLeish is a bit dour, which is reflected in the football his sides play, but he'd get us organised if nothing else. Won trophies in 2 different countries, managed Internationally and in the Champions League. Yet he's not good enough for us? Hmmmm

It makes me laugh that a manager like Mcleish is deemed NOT WORTHY to manager Town., FFS who do some of you think we are!? Looking at the post above, hes had poor times but a lot of good times too. Any manager who's been in management for a long time will have that too, especially one that we could realistically get! But this bloke who's won promotions, titles, cups, managed in the champions league, won something with Birmingham FFS!!- He isn't good enough for us? We don't want him!! Fuck NO!!! Its like some of you think Mourinho has sent his CV in !

I think McLeish ticks a few boxes, and I suspect he would be able to get us to battle our way out of the relegation zone. The football wouldn't be pretty though, and I thought one of the key criteria was getting Town playing decent, passing football? A style that they are trying to embed at the club.
I am not saying I'm against appointing someone like McLeish, but his footballing philosophy might not be what Dean and the club are looking for.

Just because people say they wouldnt want him doesnt necessarily mean they are saying he's not 'good enough' to do a job for hudderfield town...or devaluing past achievements.
Thing with mcleish is his CV looks decent with the promotion and cup win, but for me they wouldnt be the first things i;d look at for manager of huddersfield town 2014. There would be a lot come before that in terms of the right appointment for me.
I wouldn't necessarily be looking for a manager with promotions - because i think that's a bit of a way off..if we were a team trying a failing to get promoted each year (like when we hired grayson), then maybe...
i'd more be looking for a manager that could add a promotion to his CV a few years down the line because he was smart, innovative and able to bring it all together....which for me would be a reasonably young (in other words modern) manager...who is a good coach, can make us solid..but not at the expense of playing good attacking football (the only way we'll get punters in), bring youngsters though, have fight, passion etc..but most of all ambition - think this really is key at our club as it is. we need someone who will DRAG the club up the league through sheer determination...if we start going for 'job done' managers we'll end up like barnsley..treading water at the bottom until we finally slip down.
I know the whole "project" idea gives people nightmares of lee clark, but to be honest we were right...we just didnt pick the right man. I dont expect us to get someone who matches all that criteria but they would be the things id be looking for.
The short team threat of relegation is obviously the priority, but id still be looking for a long term appointment who fits the club philosophy.
