Yes two...Derby and Forest... So why is he not good enough for Huddersfield Town ?? Please explain.. I am not being funny, I just don't understand why not. ciyorkie Billy Davies didn't get promotion to the Premiership at Forest (Hence my question). In fact given the backing he received his record was poor, one of the reasons he was sacked. East Leake is in Nottinghamshire has a Leicestershire postcode (& my sons go to school in Leicestershire) and I work in Derby. Hence I mix with a mixture of fans of the 4 main East Midlands teams. I was asked at my lad's Cricket club on Sunday who was up for the job. I said "everyone according to our message board". I added "scarily Billy Davies". The laughter and shaking of heads around the room should tell you everything. A Leicester fan piped up "He's a nutcase isn't he?" To nods of agreement. It appears BD can start an arguement with anyone, anywhere & makes Stan Ternent look like a peace keeper. His dealings with the media are a joke (banned the local press at Forest) and he apparently doesn't give a sh8*te about acadamys. I understand He's prone to nepotism (jobs for his family and friends) with little apparent justification. He appears to require big funds to operate and hasn't a great record spending these funds. A Derby ST holder advised "you may get initial success as initially he scares the sh8*te out of players but in the long term you'll go backwards as the morale and infrastructure of the club will be ruined". I dread the thought of Town becoming a joke in the East Midlands and being constantly greeted by the query "What's Billy done now?" Andyeastleake, thanks for the reply and I stand corrected. Good to hear your opinion and reasons, certainly food for thought. who do you want if not Davies ?

I am a firm believer in the adage - you cannot teach an old dog new tricks. We do not need an old guy - they only have their method and that's all we will get. But wasn't this a common complaint about Robins - that he had a very infelxible system which he was trying to force on a squad that didn't seem to like it? He wasn't an 'old dog'. There were frequent claims that Clark had no 'plan B' either and he was supposed to be another young up and coming progressive manager. I think Robins had some great technical ability and got Town playing a game the likes we haven't see for a long time. however, I agree, when it went wrong he did not have a plan B. You can see that Eddie Howe did his homework and cut his cloth accordingly. EH has command of his players though and MR - so it would seem - did not.

Would be a fantastic appointment IMHO. Rangers fan at work has nothing but good things to say about him, says he's the sort of guy you're proud to have as your manager, a true ambassador and a gentleman, a real tough guy who will command respect from the players.

Alex McLeish? Top manager! Very underated! Never got a chance with Villa after working with Birmgham... I for one would love seeing him in the dugout.
Been reading a few comments on this thread quietly, and a few of you (If big Al) was next gaffer would eat your own words..

Let's give him a chance before writing him off!
It's a wonder any bugger applied given the attitude of some of our fans!

if I had a say in the new manager - I know it would not be this guy - but I don't so I will have to become part of the unhappy minority don't say owt to upset the apple cart clapping brigade or whatever they are called this week with AM in charge I fear a relegation battle whilst not assured would be something we will face - if he does get appointed and we stay up then I will at season end do a gigantic version of the ice bucket challenge (wearing a leeds shirt) and donate 100 squid to Deano's charity of choice We've been in a relegation battle ever since we got in this division. I'd take AM over the majority of names being banded about. Certainly over Pressley, Powell and Hughton. In fact now someone's mentioned it if take Dowie over them too.

Don't have a problem with McLeish. He's been there and done it and would do well with us IMO. But as I said before without new players no manager stands a chance.

It's gonna be mcleish and of .i think he'll be a great manager for town just what we need at this time . Mate you've said about 19 differant names are going to be the next manager. There comes a point when you need to stop being a total WUM.

He would probably be the most high profile appointment since Malcolm McDonald!!!!

This board makes me laugh....we dismiss and/or heartily welcome players etc with no real idea if they are going to be any good.
Does McLeish excite me as manager? To be honest no...but does that mean he will fail? Of course not.
Lennon would be a real "feel good" appointment but would he be a guaranteed success...also of course not.
Stack it up and see how it stands....
Lets face it Deans had 5 goes (if you count Ternent) of finding an outstanding manager he must be due one soon....because it is a bit of a lottery

Not sure on Mcleish his last 3 jobs have all ended badly,1 fair enough but for 3 to go wrong isn't unlucky.I really don't envy DH picking the new man but imo if Lennon is interested it's got to be him.
Out of interest anyone got any ideas roughly how much these type of managers get paid? I was told Robins was on around the £250k mark,is that reasonable or way off? would imagine Mcleish and Lennon would want double that.

For whats its worth... Not managed a team in 18 months. Only 11 wins in his last 55 matches as a manager in the last 4 years. McLeish currently holds the record for being statistically the worst manager of Aston Villa, with a win percentage of only 21.4%. Oh, and i once sat next to the big, dour lump on a flight. I could barely move and the cheapskate was in economy. Wiki says he is 6 foot 1...thats just his head!

Have I missed something about his time at Forest? He walked after 41 days. To me it sounded like he fell out with the foreign owners. (I may be wrong!)

Been reading a few comments on this thread quietly, and a few of you (If big Al) was next gaffer would eat your own words.. Take it you missed his reign at Forest then? Not at all. But saw his reign at Hibs, Rangers, Birmingham and Scotland.. Where he guided teams to league titles, promotions, and cup finals even beating the french too. If I was a manager and the club pulled out of signing a player because he failed based on "eye sight" (I think it was) i would resign too. I prefer to look at the bigger picture of managers.45.91 win ratio both at domestic and international level. There are a lot of experts on this forum, we're far to quick to shoot down candidates. Any of the following, i'm sure would do a great job at town): Lennon, McLeish, Powell, Kluivert and Mowbray..
