We will have a second round of voting! Blatter gains 133 to Prince Ali's 73: not enough for two-third majority
Of the 209 votes, three were spoiled and so only 206 counted
News is breaking that Spain reportedly voted for Blatter. Unconfirmed, of course. So much for Uefa’s unity in backing Prince Ali. So much for a secret ballot.

How many UEFA members are they? I'd imagine most the 73 votes for Hussain will be from UEFA members, USA and Australia, not sure what Brazil and Argentina make of Blatter. Blatter seems to hold sway over the continents of Africa and Asia, which must make up most of the votes.

Prince Ali has withdrawn! Sepp Blatter is confirmed as Fifa president (again)!
No second round of voting required

Perhaps the best thing that could happen might be for Blatter to be re-elected, and then UEFA and the Americans to withdraw from FIFA. We can only hope and pray!

I can't fathom how this can't be seen by the globe to be a complete sham. Clearly we get a relatively unbiased view of events and have access to all sorts of resources but how that bloke can remain in the job is a total piss take... I can only assume that as well as the shady dealings that have kept him in ajob, the countries that vote for him have a totally different story pitched at them...
Football needs rid of Blatter and as many of the sources of poison that they're able to...

Who puts business in Switzerland apart from the Swis? Generally businesses that want to pay less taxes and abide in a country renown for hiding bank accounts.
If FIFA were based anywere else there would have been a proper investigation. The one taking place now is at the request of FIFA very restricted and not expected to find anything.

Switzerland has become more open in recent years as tax avoiders have started to find out. This wasn't the Swiss suddenly getting a conscience, it's just the new reality of a fast moving digital world (particularly the movement of funds and anti terror legislation); there are fewer and fewer hiding places. It's still a convenient location for FIFA, but it is becoming much less safe for them. Blatter looks like the little boy with his finger in the dyke - hopefully, he can expect a tsunami in the not too distant future.

The big sponsors withdrawing 2. Potentially UEFA withdrawing 3. Further arrests and possibly including Blatter You have to consider that Blatter is generally seen as corrupt himself, with suggestions that even his family members have got jobs within FIFA because of him and that those that support him are also corrupt. The reality is that this weeks events are probably just the tip of the iceberg and Blatter is being kept in power because if he is ousted there will be even bigger revelations

Hopefully UEFA pull out of FIFA and boycott the World Cup. Any player who plies his trade in UEFA is not allowed to compete regardless of nationality and this should bring the FIFA pack of cards crashing down as Europe provide the majority of teams and players to go with attracting the massive sponsorship and TV deals. FIFA is a joke and a disgrace led by one corrupt individual who's made of Teflon.

Spain were involved in collusion for vote trading of the 2018 and 2022 bids with Qatar supporters, so no surprise whatsoever (I think it was announced earlier this morning that Spain (and the USA?!) would back Blatter?).

If your points were in order of occurrence then I'd just reverse 1 & 2. Hopefully the whole thing will unravel quickly & his challenger probably withdrew to make it more of a defining moment than after the 2nd vote...

Europe should find out who voted for him and stop any friendly games with those countries. Ban any transfers of players from those countries. If we give the countries any international aid get the government to stop it.
Put some pressure on the people supporting Blatter.
if Europe pulled out of FIFA there would be much less money to pay out to the African and Asian countries and as a result we could start bulding more football fieds in this country and help develop our kids.
The majority vote for Blatter because the rich countries pay in and he gives it to the poor. All laudable if the smell around FIFAwould go away. We should not be surprised when they keep voting for him. They fear what would come in and that they would loose out.

He is 79...he might peg it soon. Or with luck he could still be around in his 90s, serving his deservedly long stretch. Wouldn't that be better than doing a Saville?

I've got a feeling that with more arrests looming, Blatter's time is nearly at an end. I think that the US authorities have only one aim now and that is Blatter. They are just getting everything into line before his arrest and extradition.

It's very easy for every football fan to make his/her personal protest and create change You stop buying the products or services of the companies that sponsor FIFA. FIFA is ALL about money so you hit them where it hurts. The bank account.

It's a really sad state of affairs that he's still allowed to openly push his propaganda but expect UEFA will declare their hand shortly & agree to boycott the World Cup. Aside of the criminal investigations I think that's the only action that will bring this thing to a head. Hopefully UEFA have the courage to do this and of course their reliance on any sort of bribery from FIFA is much less than in the FIFA members that support him... The member states listed below will probably receive decent wages for top officials in their countries, hence their undying loyalty to the poison that is Blatter... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_men%27s_national_association_football_teams#Members_of_FIFA_affiliated_confederations

Africa, Asia and South America....
bastions of virtue?
where corruption is actually a very large part of everyday life for everyone from the very rich to the gutter poor..
The IOC suffers from the same vested interests and endemic 'self interest' not to look too deeply into themselves..
The only thing that seems to have changed since the first whisperings of corruption in FIFA is that Blatter has clearly had time to distance himself from any lines of the enquiries...
The chap from Jamaica couldn't believe he was being 'lifted' and Blatter wasn't going to be?? that reaction should tell you all you need to know about whats been going on..
