I think we’ll see another defender in when Zanka goes. A LB might be who we see. And if he doesn't go? Free pints at Christmas?

Right now in the CB market, McGuire is being touted for a move to one of the big clubs, it wouldn’t surprise me to see a cascading of transfers once that move is made. Zanka has 1 year left, can’t see him staying and worst case he goes after the window closes in England, so we are without a backup until January.

The fact that we aren’t willing to take the first offer for Zanka makes me think we see an opportunity to get our asking price. I think McGuire will be the first domino.

So Wagner bought in all the players bar Bacuna and hired Rebbe and despite the fact we have/had a head of recruitment, a head of football ops and a chief exec Wagner hired the lot of them and made all the decisions. Wagner must have been putting in 24 hour days being head coach plus doing all the scouting, hiring staff, doing due dilligence on new players etc. No wonder he was too stressed to carry on. Its amazing the club gave all that responsibility to one man. I presume you're just being an arse on purpose to get a reaction, but just for fun I'll bite. What PH confirmed last night was that all the signings made last summer we're made with the involvement of DW and he had the final say. The only player that was signed last summer without his involvement was Bacuna. DW obviously didn't do all the work on the transfers, but it was his ultimate decision to sign all the players except for Bacuna. Every transfer is a gamble, you're usually selecting players based on them being successful with another club, with a different coach, perhaps different system, even a different country and/or language. However, to request wingers/wide-men, OK the transfers of the players and then change the system before giving them a chance to play is not the best use of the clubs limited resources to say the least. What’s the implication on Bacuna? Wagner didn’t give him a chance until “close to the end” when he kind of replaced Mooy whilst he was out, once Puncheon had given up. Did we just bring in a relatively experienced (80+ appearances before he joined) player with Wagner not being interested or not feeling he needed him?? Seems bizarre that Bacuna would even sign if the manager hadn’t “wanted” him...although I guess EPL wages make decisions easier. Ridiculous really, bet we’d have finished on more points if Bacuna had been playing instead of for example Billing from day one of the season. Probably not enough to make a difference, but enough to avoid the last 5 months of the season being a complete non event.

I'd say he was doing well until Mooy got injured and then seemed to go into his shell, before getting injured. On Bacuna, I'm assuming he was signed to go into the backup / development squad. So Wagner didn't necessarily have to OK him - especially if Rebbe was the one who made the decision as we're lead to believe that Wagner wanted Rebbe (who he trusted) as DOF/HFO whichever title it had. Bacuna has so far shown himself to be much better than expected, although he may have to push himself to keep ahead of either Hogg or O'brien as first choice.

Right now if Kongolo gets injured we look very thin at the back. I get we can't blow loads of money but surely a left back, even on loan, can be done?

Certainly the best I have seen of Billing himself. I have been more of a critic in past, but was getting to the point of being a fan. But, given he has a history of up/down performances, leaves some room for doubt. Talent no doubt, however you judge him.

The psychiatrist made a very good point. Of the field matters were the root of our downfall, not on. The players have the ability to get us straight up again if we get the mentality around the club right.[/b] Winning will sort that out.See. They don't need to employ a Psychiatrist.

Agree on your perception of Billing (he didn’t get the player of season awards for nothing), I just think we’d have got more across the whole season if we’d brought Bacuna on directly at the start of the season (and not necessarily always a direct swap for Billing, he’s easily capable of playing the Hogg role or whatever it was that we decided Mooy was supposed to be doing last season). Given how Bacuna was introduced (might be wrong but I think he played the first few games at right back?), he didn’t really get into anything like his natural position until well into 2019...and showed within one or two games he was more than capable of meeting the EPL challenge...surprised nobody has seemingly taken a punt on him to be honest. And if you’re right...we should have given Rebbe more leeway to sign players, he obviously could spot them if Bacuna was one for the dev squad! (Would be amazed of O’Brien was considered ahead of him in the pecking order based on what limited view I’ve had of him (unimpressive snippets from friendlies, and gushing reports from Bradford fans earlier last season).

If we don't get further cover in the fullback positions, maybe it's the club's view we need to be braver in blooding youngsters and not block pathways or we'll see a quick end to attracting young players from EPL clubs who want a quicker route to first team football.
This may be more feasible whilst we have the likes of Schindler, Hogg, Mooy and in particular Elphick to guide them during the match.
It would obviously be a gamble though!

Lots seem totally and irrefutably certain that Bacuna has 'it'. He definitely put in a very good case for a regular starting place but I'd like to see a few months of solid performing before I start whacking one out over him.
I'm still not sure what his best position is. Obviously somewhere in midfield but where?

I have always wondered if that is the Premier Leagues 'endgame' by over-inflating the market. There is so much money at that level that it almost seems it no longer matters. Who cares about the lower leagues when you are in a league which is in effect a license to print money?

He did well.. better than well in some games and in some he wasn't so good. Did great bits of play and dreadful bits in pretty equal measure. Basically he was a bit hit and miss IMO, not just from game to game but within each game too. But hes a young lad so thats to be expected. What he has got though is great heart and desire and with that he should become the very best he can be. Doesn;t hide,, always wants to effect the game. I wish i could say the same for all the other summer signings last year. I think bacuna could have a great season but think some of the expectation fans have of him seem a bit much.

Have I missed something from the New Chairmans Q & A this week. When he says that is YOUR £200m - its all gone. I have to admit I don't really understand WHY its my £200m - just sounds like he is a guy with no money and Dean sees him as the only guy to to take club on. Get more and more concerned with a Chairman who seems to distance himself from the fans and a manager who does the same.
