Just had some nice chips from Chippie Booths in Lepton 😂 Any bits? Is that the tiny shack on the left coming from lepton toward h'field? If so I tried them for first time this season and they were excellent. I used to occasionally call at the tiny place opposite working men's club in Flockton. Now the club's gone and so has the chippie. Bloody progress...

There are a couple of chippies in Lepton, but this one is a small shack yes. It’s just off the Wakefield Road on the left (heading towards Huddersfield) just before you get to the retail park with M&S etc (which is on the right).
I’ve been going for 30 years+. Chippie Booth himself is no longer with us, but the quality of the food has remained and it continues to be popular.

Blakeley's Brighouse. End of fish and chips chat. Would have agreed with you, but i had a couple of poor fish from there middle of the season. Went to the Golden Hind round the corner and they are definitely better.

Scarborough Fisheries in Thornhill. The proprietor Paul is an ex-army chef and is a really nice fellow. And the standard is usually A to A+ and he has a baking sideline which is not my thing but adds to overall impression of someone giving 1000% effort to his business. The simple secret of things like decent curry sauce + mushy peas isn't exactly culinary rocket science - but this fucker does everything right and consistently so.

nshackle yes that sounds the place, everything cooked to order so a bit of a wait but it brings out more flavour.

You can't see Chippy Booths from the main road unless you know where to look. It's about 3/4 mile further down the road, near Lacselles Hall zebra crossing, from the one you mention - think that ones called the Little Fat Fryer now but used to be known locally as Greaves House. Can't speak for the quality of either as not been for years. There's also the Green Hut in Lepton village next to the Co-op which usually gets good reports but it's not a green hut anymore which is false advertising in my book. A bit like LDP being called a striker. With Spring Grove fisheries not far away either you wonder how they all stay in business.

My dad's theory was that most folk's favourite chippy was the one that was second closest to home. i.e. Easy to walk to but you didn't smell the fat when they fired up.

Golcar used to have a couple of good fish oyles, Cliffe Ash and the Junc. The former is long gone and when I last visited the latter, they were awful. Had some from the one on the end of Sycamore next to the Indian, and they were a bit better but still nothing to write home about. I wonder if there's a decent chip shop left in the Colne Valley? Sad times.

Always wondered why in the 60s and 70s you could go anywhere, and the fish and chips were up to everyone’s liking, even the mobile van that came round on a Friday night was a delight.
I struggle to find a fish and chip shop these days to come even close.

I struggle to find a fish and chip shop these days to come even close. Probably the beef dripping that was used for frying back then.

Chippy has long gone but the club is operating from the old post office on a temporary basis between the new housing estate and the car park being built for the new club when it eventually gets built

If it's owned by leeds fans (as someone further up the thread says), you'd have thought they'd be ok mid season, but getting worse towards the end..

My best chip shop on main st, east ardsley. Always fantastic
Worst ever was a recent purchase from an "establishment " called Mandy's in normanton. Horrific frozen fish and the greasiest chips known to man!

If you ever have cause to exit the M1 at the Denby Dale junction, I can recommend Kingfishers at Calder Grove. Fish always cooked fresh.
