www.htafc.com/news/2020/january/the-vital-part-ppg-canalside-plays-at-town/PPG Canalside is made up of 168 members of staff; First Team staff, First Team players, Academy staff, Academy players, the Club’s Media and Marketing Department and operations staff like Groundsmen, Catering, Maintenance, Security and Cleaning. 168 - wow! That's in addition to staff at the ground itself. I wonder what the total wages are for: a) playing staff and b) non-playing staff? They must be eye watering

I brought this up earlier in the season when the clamour for where's the money gone was in full swing, it's easy and I suppose logical to get caught up in the few highest earners with their 20/£30K a week but in addition to the 168 at PPG there's two shops, a ticket office, lottery / Blue & White plus countless part time match day staff, turnstiles, programmes, catering etc etc - a lot of them will be on minimum wage for a few hours a week but they all add up and the simple fact is your £250 for a season card doesn't go far with the numbers involved.

It doesn't surprise me one bit how many people are employed at the Canalside, you can see how clubs can easily get in to massive debt. I was a regular at the club before and after a game and loved the place. On one occasion when Dean Hoyle was doing a question and answers session, i always remember him saying to to one fan "do you realize how much it cost's to run a Premiership club" and the vast majority dont. Take Man City, they employ over 2,000 people on a match day and i believe at Spurs it's even more, it's not the days of the 60's/70's anymore it's crazy, every aspect of football has changed and changed for the worse as far as i am concerned.

Numbers creep up and this is why the Town shop has started charging for plastic bags. It’s not because they feel it’s the right thing to do, it’s because as an employer of over 250 permanent staff they were breaking the law by not doing so.

If you think about it 168 isnt too much when you consider that in the first team and academy set up inc coaches there is probably 100 there! So 68 between the rest for catering, cleaning ground staff and security.

Start of the end of the Club how it was. Canalside was a real unique asset and brilliant for the fans. Along comes the greedy league and away go the fans. The players don’t want to mix, security, private players lounge, and now no access at all. Our USP gone. We’re just a business and a secret one at that. Communication gone, trust gone in many quarters. I wished more than anything that I’d get to see Town in the Premier League and now I wish I hadn’t. It’s killed it for me. No dreams anymore really, because what would going back to the greedy league bring except more shite? And don’t mention selling the soul to the Chinese for a year or so with that shit dog.

How could the club/Hoyle be confident enough to release videos and statements about this happening, only to suddenly feel the need to unwind it? What are we left with - a new pitch?
The whole message was that a new facility would attract higher calibre players.
We really did completely give up didn't we.

The amount of fans who have their head up Hoyle's **** is embarrassing, he has absolutely killed this club this last 18 months and completely ruined his so called legacy (still was always and will always be down to Webber and Wagner our promotion for me), PPG is just another example.

This is from just 11 months ago, after we had been relegated and the ownership change. No mention of things being "scaled back". The £20m upgrade of Huddersfield Town's PPG Canalside training ground is expected to get underway "very soon" after plans were approved by Kirklees today.
Josh Halliwell, a planning agent for the PPG Canalside project, told Kirklees Council's Strategic Planning Committee the club wanted to demolish the existing complex and replace it with a three-story state-of-the-art facility 'fairly swiftly'.link |

There's a few pages left in this thread I think.
It seems to me that those that could have made a massive difference to this club with the opportunity that the PL gave us have proven to be totally inept at running a football club despite their obvious business nous. Anyone on here could have wasted this opportunity as spectacularly as Hoyle and his team have done and who knows some of us might have actually done a better job of it.
Canalside just proves it; we've accepted that we're extremely unlikely to return to the PL so we scaled back the development to reflect that. I always thought that they'd told us that the money would be invested in a PL facility to give us the edge for recruiting the best players once we did go back down. Seemingly not. Of course they'll blame it on Covid19 but I suspect the decisions were made long before that.
