Have the shares in the ground officially been handed over to the club or are they in trust to prevent them being used as collateral again in the future?

Didn’t DH say he’d put them into a trust so they couldn’t be used as a pawn in a game? But...is the trust tied to the club or does DH still have links to it? He still owns 25% of the club of course.

This is from just 11 months ago, after we had been relegated and the ownership change. No mention of things being "scaled back". The £20m upgrade of Huddersfield Town's PPG Canalside training ground is expected to get underway "very soon" after plans were approved by Kirklees today.
Josh Halliwell, a planning agent for the PPG Canalside project, told Kirklees Council's Strategic Planning Committee the club wanted to demolish the existing complex and replace it with a three-story state-of-the-art facility 'fairly swiftly'.linkAmazing how often people spell my last wrong despite me spelling it out.

Kirklees Council, Huddersfield Town, and Huddersfield Sporting Pride ( a company that Ken Davy has total control of which isn't a rugby club) have control of KSDL.

You could smell the bullshit a mile off when the talk of scaling back initially emerged. Hope to be pleasantly surprised but if not where is the £20M that was set aside at the expense of buying players that may have kept us in the division? It's now scaled back "following relegation from the PL", rather than "following not quite as much office space being required", I guess eventually we might get round to "following the sale to Phil and the deal that was done". Reminds me of Mooy's contract and the vanishing option.

And from what I remember from the Q&A's I'm pretty sure it's the club owns Canalside, but Dean owns the land Canalside is built on and rents the land to the club for a small fee. The club have the option to buy the land when they see fit. Happy to corrected if any of that is wrong!

I know hindsight is a wonderful thing but wouldn't it have been great to have spent some of the Premier League money on making Kirklees council and the Giants an offer they couldn't refuse for their shares in the JSS instead of foreign mercenaries then tie it along with Canalside to the ownership of Huddersfield Town. But we know from Derby and The Massive that stadiums in undesirable parts of northern towns are worth about £75M. 😉

I've mixed views on this. I was fully behind the concept of changing from being a premiere league club with div 1 faciitues to a championship club with Premier league facilities.
It looks like are settling for being a championship club with championship facilities. Which may be sensible because the bigger the facilities the more they will cost to run and it seems that our parachute payments will be lower than expected due to COVID.

The stadium shares are still owned directly by HTFC, Kirklees Council, and Huddersfield Sporting Pride (a Ken Davy business that doesn't operate a rugby team).

Isn’t that the new gatehouse entrance building on the left as you go into the whole training complex - along with the electronic security gate.

Yeah I think so, I drove past about a month ago and there was a building there. I presume this will be an office (or similar) for the main contractors, Marshalls, to us during the main construction phase.

Thank God the contractors aren't Morgan Sindall or it would look superficially OK for a few months and then fall to bits after 2 years.

That building is a security office operating the entrance into the training ground. The plan was for a £20m plus state of the art training facility with three levels, then down to two levels as the club claimed they had decided to use office space instead at the stadium. So we end up with a new pitch built on the old temporary car park, upgraded pitches over the canal, upgraded services, and a new entrance with a electronic gate... The premiership legacy.. what a joke!

The premiership legacy.. what a joke! Given the economic (unforeseen) hit that we have taken as a result of COVID, and the on field shambles, would you rather; - we follow through with the purpose built training ground, having a significant effect on the preparation of the new season as there's no way it could have been constructed in the window that was available given delays in the construction industry and the revamped footballing schedule, and potentially reducing our funds in the market etc or have to make redundancies for which the club would be heavily criticised; or - we delay the process until a better time, opting to do what little we can in the meantime to support the players and academy by still bettering their facilities, but ensuing there is a little more stability financially and otherwise (maybe even meaning we can support the on-field progress) because now maybe not the right to to follow through with such a grandiose plan? I for one wouldn't have attempted to construct something so major right now, especially when firms are not stable which may mean that they end up bust part build and the programmes are so strung-out becasue of labour restrictions, and at a time when our team needs stability and little distraction.

To be fair to Melc the club made a grand and impressive announcement about what was planned. Subsequently we have not heard any more, no information about the changes or what will now be created. It is also not completely clear who owns what and how it was funded. In the grand scheme of things probably not important, and I'm sure we will have a good facility, but if you make grand announcements and then not follow through sets you up for criticism. It doesn't set a good perception of what is going on. All in all another example of poor communication and the fans opinion being disregarded.

But nothing like the original plans on show when we were all invited to view them down at Canalside. That's the problem, it may be a big improvement on what was there but it's not what was expected.

I know they have spent money on the facility regarding the pitches etc, but when wagner was here in the championship he stated they needed to improve on the main building. Premiership arrived and we then in our second season unveil a plan to deliver a state of the art building which would be built in phase two. Phase one has been completed, and the club stated phase two would Follow. Move on and apart from changing the first plan from a three story building, that had been revised to a two tier, as office space has now been found at the stadium. So here we are not a word from the club, about halting the development.

There's been some money spent on The Canalside, DH put in £5 million pound to upgrade the pitches and drainage, parking even before we got to Prem and old big ears likened it to a working mans club.

It does sound sensible to have downgraded the original plans for upgrading Canalside. Such a shame that a big part of our community club facilities was closed permanently to supporters following a snobby report from Gary Lineker.
Players who use the facility will come and go. Supporters using the facility were there for the long term.
I so looked forward to driving in when the potholes had been repaired but now know that red letter day will never come
