It looks a complete shit hole and a large garden shed It looks 100% better than what it did before with everyone having to use Porto cabins but the general public wouldn’t of seen all that . I have been to alot of academies / training grounds and this now looks good , players will want to come now with these facilities which it what I think a lot of ppl don’t understand! I might not have seen so long ago but I did see it not long after we started training there, The place looks like a shit hole for what reported money has been spent, Granted slot of money will be on equipment we can’t see under the pitches etc I’ll accept that but don’t show a video of that and say players will want to come, oh yes I forgot they were parked outside canal side pen in hand, keen as mustard to join.

All those complaining that we didn't spend 20 million on the training ground, what more did you want?
You have 14 million, what further investment will you make?

Not had time to watch yet but the money set aside for the training facility upgrade was £20M. That was announced loud and clear by the club.
How much has actually been spent on this scaled down version? £5M, 10?
Why was it scaled down?
Where has the surplus money gone?
Obvious questions that need answering. Are we blaming that on covid too?

Absolute guff that spin. We announced we’d started the ‘proper’ facility in Feb/March 2019 when we were 99% already relegated. To say that was only the plan if we were in the prem is outright lies, we’d already said that was the plan providing we stayed up once, which we did.

I'm ploughing through this video now - oh my word - can't knock them for going through it all and being 'open' but jeeeeze!!
I wouldn't trust Devlin as far as I could throw him - which wouldn't be far!! - plus he needs to find some face masks that fit properly - he's spent the first 10 minutes continually readjusting it
This football club is on a slippery slope and the good old days of the club's infrastructure are well and truly behind us by the looks of it - hopefully they'll prove otherwise, but I'm not holding my breath

The player had a Porto cabin to change in , the physio room was 1 Porto cabin with 1 bed inside and if in use you had to wait outside etc so yes it is now a 100% better and players will want to come for facilities. Also to the top pitches was a muddy path that was horrendous in winter now looks professional .

50 years ago we sold Denis Law and bought some flood lights.
Now we’ve sold £50m worth of players and tarmaced a car park.
Funny how some things never change.

Some call it evolution, others deceit and betrayal, so what is it? Well I can understand the former ICI members being aggrieved. As we all know social entities attached to businesses have been relinquished left, right and centre. The old mutual concept of keeping all your workforce happy at work and socially was dismissed in the 90's by greedy chairmen. There has unfortunately been a similar disconnect that has now evolved at HTAFC. This is why I can't accept the Slavic devotion to Dean Hoyle. He knew when he was developing Canalside that long term the fans would be evicted, but he enjoyed the limelight and hoodwinked the fans into thinking we were a community club, and we all had access to the players and club. This has been cruelly taken away and I can't think this approach hasn't been dishonestly executed. We have now become like other clubs, just commercial identities treating their fans as commodities. Perhaps it was inevitable, as all places have become security obsessed, but it's still a sad passing.

I can be a critical poster but equally this is better than I was expecting (feared). Clearly not what was promised but I guess we need to understand whether DH still owns canalside and if he does is there benefit making a new multi million building when we’re only tenants In terms of the cost. These desso pitches seem to be top end and used at anfield, old Trafford, ethihad, Stamford bridge, Wembley, parc de princes. They seem to be the best out there so to have one to train on is clearly a good thing - en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/GrassMasterThey’re not cheap though and five years ago they cost £500k to £1m to install www.claretandhugh.info/olympic-stadium-pitch-to-ripped-up-again-after-rugby/Then there’s the cost of undersoil heating, floodlights and all the tv equipment. I wouldn’t be shocked if that pitch alone cost £1.5m The other pitches won’t cost the same obviously but would still be significant I also googled some of the equipment they highlight. The anti gravity treadmill looks to cost £30k www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-4132834/Gordon-Ramsay-uses-36K-anti-gravity-treadmill-injury.htmlThe cryotherapy chamber costs up to £200k - cryoaction.com/cost-cryotherapy-equipment/The building is the bit they’ve shelved but having academy players living at the ground is “nice” but not really going to benefit the first team, besides the Rishworth tie up seems a pretty good solution. Having the ticket staff at canalside is also “nice” but again won’t help the first team Having the correct training equipment, pitches to train on and facilities to analyse performance will help the first team - and that largely looks to be there It’s not the legacy we should have had but equally compared to what we had when we first got into the championship it’s a big step forward

Those in charge, and running the club. They give the impression of being chancers to me, of being aloof - but I don't know them. We don't know a lot about any of them. It's a big change from the openness we had before, and maybe the best option would be somewhere between the two mindsets. Clearly a lot of work has gone in to Canalside, and I hope it bears fruit - even more so if we can get some local Academy products, perhaps one from Mirfield into the higher echelons of the squad

Have the builders had our pants down? 6 million on a few cosmetic changes, a couple of industrial sheds and a new pitch?
Makes Diakhaby look good value.
Nice piece by town, but at the same time, our two year spell in the Premier league has not really left a massive legacy. Yes its improved, but it should have been so much better.
It just reinforces the opinion that we completely pissed away the best chance we had to ever make a huge change to the club, we have become a slightly better version of the small dog, rather than using the money to become a dog at the next level.
Like I say, a good piece from the media team, Devlin and Bromby came across well.

I've tried to find the original link from 18th September 2018 but it looks like the club have taken it down. www.htafc.com/news/2018/september/ppg-canalside-development-plans-revealed/Found it. "£15 - £20 million" "Town’s development plan represents a major investment in the Club’s facilities and the community - Huddersfield Town reveals new plans for its training complex - Major investment made to Town’s facilities - Comments from Chief Executive Julian Winter Huddersfield Town is delighted to reveal plans for a major redevelopment of its training complex, PPG Canalside, designed to bring the facility up to the highest of Premier League standards. The redevelopment represents a major investment in the Club’s facilities and the community, with an estimated £15 million to £20 million committed to the project by Chairman Dean Hoyle and the Board of Directors. The new plans, which are timetabled to be completed in time for the 2020/21 pre-season, will create a new level of elite sports environment for Huddersfield Town’s First Team and Academy. A new showpiece pitch will be created during the first stage of the work, which is being managed by Preston-based Frank Whittle Partnership Group, on newly-acquired land to the north east of the site. Like the pitch at the John Smith’s Stadium, the new pitch will be a hybrid Desso GrassMaster surface, complete with undersoil heating, high-spec floodlights, and a covered stand for supporters (shown below). The second stage will see the creation of a new First Team building that includes state-of-the-art facilities for the players, including a hydrotherapy suite, new changing rooms (shown below) and gymnasiums, medical treatment areas, analysis theatre, a new media suite and office and dining spaces for staff. The building will feature a corner-point that will be loosely based on a modern interpretation of the Victoria Tower on Castle Hill, one of Huddersfield’s most iconic landmarks. The Club is now able to reveal the provisional plans following a public exhibition, held at PPG Canalside on Monday evening, where fans were invited to come and give their feedback on the proposals. If you couldn’t make it to the public consultation, you are still invited to give your feedback on the proposals. Please email ppg@htafc.com before 5pm on Monday 17 September 2018. As part of Huddersfield Town’s continued commitment to the community, a proposal to improve the facilities at Leeds Road Sports Complex is also being worked on, where the public provision currently housed at PPG Canalside would be offered. These plans will be revealed soon. Huddersfield Town’s Chief Executive Julian Winter commented: “We’re delighted that, after some very hard work from several parties, we’ve reached the stage to be able to reveal our provisional plans for PPG Canalside to our supporters. “It’s been fantastic to see the response to the initial announcement and to hear directly from fans in the early stages of our consultation process. It’s clear that they all understand how important these plans are to the long-term, sustainable success of their football club. “This represents a very significant investment from the Chairman and the football club in turning PPG Canalside into an elite sports environment. We’re a Club that prides itself on developing players and this stage-of-the-art training complex will be a huge asset to the technical staff in that goal.” Julian concluded: “We’re also a club that prides itself on being at the heart of its community, and we’re equally committed to continuing to provide great facilities for the fans and wider people of Kirklees to use. “As such, we’re planning to switch the existing public-facing element of PPG Canalside to brand new, dedicated facilities that we are funding and planning alongside Kirklees Council and Kirklees Active Leisure at a new-look Leeds Road Sports Complex, which I hope we can share in the near-term.” The Way Back Machine is your friend

Things just don’t quite add up to me. If we’re sitting on this money as Phil says in the examiner interview why not invest in a couple of cheap attackers with potential? It’s a chance missed for me, we’ve got a good young manager and the potential for him to improve players which usually equates to a good profit being made in this league. Maybe there’s a long term plan we’re not aware of but I just feel like it’s all smoke and mirrors, see what we can get away with feeding the fans etc. It’s probably the come down after Hoyle but I just feel a bit Mehhh about everything around Town right now.

Joking aside, it’s clear that the facilities prior to this work were completely inadequate. Obviously, the club glossed over this (as they would at the time) so the work required to get to this stage will have been far greater than we could really imagine.
It may not be fully as promised a couple of years back but is a huge leap forward.

Well, well, well. Removing articles from the website. Classy. Can you find the Mooy one year contact option on there too? This bit is significant. We had a Chairman then who had the financial clout to make it happen and this was before he got ill and decided to sell the club. I really can't see why folk are getting their knickers in a twist over this. The facilities are fine for a Championship club and the most important thing here is what the players and coaches think of the facilities.

Except by this stage, we weren't spending Dean's money. This was Premier League money. Yes, it's a commitment from the Chairman AND THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS. But it's just how they're deciding to slice the pie, surely?

From the original plan I note the Stand at the main pitch is missing.

What infrastructure are you meaning mate? Those in charge, and running the club. They give the impression of being chancers to me, of being aloof - but I don't know them. We don't know a lot about any of them. It's a big change from the openness we had before, and maybe the best option would be somewhere between the two mindsets. Clearly a lot of work has gone in to Canalside, and I hope it bears fruit - even more so if we can get some local Academy products, perhaps one from Mirfield into the higher echelons of the squad You never know mate😉 By infrastructure I wasn’t sure whether you were referring to the training facilities which have come on massively at Canalside, never mind where they were 10 or so years ago at Storthes Hall!!! Different people deal with things in different ways so difficult to compare old and new, particularly after the difficulties of the last 2 seasons. You were closer to the club a few years ago so maybe that impacts your impression but in terms of the Chief Exec position, I don’t really remember Winter being massively media friendly and firing communication out left right and centre. And nobody seemed to take to the guy before him either!?

What Phil says sort of makes sense. There is some spin there but the overall message is we've spent half of what it would have cost because they don't feel some parts are needed.
If that is the case then fine by me, if it means the 6m then gets invested in the playing squad instead.
You also have to remember the chairman, CEO and board has changed since that announcement, and like any business they will have their own views and priorities.

Sent from my SM-A515F using proboards “We had to pull all the workmen off”. I should imagine there was a lot of hush money involved in that.
