Holmes should never play on the wing ever again. Different player down the middle.

That's why Duane needs to play centrally

Holmes has seemed to find acres of space every time he gets the ball.
Sobra Thomas, may get a start against Derby if he carries on like this. One criticism... he sprints to get to the ball them slows it down.
Tuirton, Sarr and Pearson solid.
Hogg the lynchpin.
Ward, looks as though he hasn't played football for a year.
Mind you, we are playing Hepworth United.

Very enjoyable kickabout & Holmes looks much better in the middle, however, he'll never play in a game where he gets so much space. Ward was very good last week but he looks awful today. Some really promising stuff from Thomas & if he'd put that chance away his confidence would have soared.

That's why Duane needs to play centrally He is never a central midfield player at this level in a million years A crucial position and not one for someone brushed off the ball whose passing and shooting is mediocre at best Cue a reminder of his fluke last year

We’ve looked decent in the first half. Thomas and Holmes lively.
Ward looks off the pace and Vellejo would be better suited to the deep play maker role today than Hogg given we’re dominating possession.
Hopefully Diarra gets on and makes an impact.

Only seen one and a half matches against weak opposition but, as with last 3 years, where are the goals going to come from ?

Decent half. Still too much going back 60 yards when we've worked a good opening for someone to take a chance and create something

Might be a different on a wet January day but this looks a cracking non league ground, great place to watch football. COVID is going to have a big impact on squads early season you would think.

It would appear that Sorba Thomas can take a proper corner....
Cue hitting the first man.

His passing and shooting could be better but he does hold onto possession pretty well I think, not as scrawny as he used to be and uses his body well for a small guy.

Good work out, cleansheet, made Southport look non league at times. Jury is out on Jordan though, looks a tad slow for our playing style. Big plus, more confidence in our defence and keeper.

Very good link up play all over the pitch. Colwill looks excellent. Pearson very solid. Thomas had a great game as well. Nicholls very positive. Need the final ball a bit better but that will come. Very enjoyable game.

Rhodes looked further off the pace than Ward which was saying something! 2nd half was disjointed though. Diarra did a few decent things in the 15 minutes he had and hopefully he’ll be around the first team this season. Colwill looked assured although not a lot to do. Not much of an impact from any of the other subs.

Rhodes is neat and tidy, but sometimes looks like he's running through quicksand in lead boots. None of our strikers are a clear starter.

As last week minutes in legs, hope no more injuries
Can’t tell anything from the game - we’re playing the Dog & Duck from 4 leagues below
More concerning is how we’re 10+ players missing for various reasons already

That's why Duane needs to play centrally He’d be fantastic week in week out in centre mid in national league north But in the Championship…

Town looked like a top 10 team in my opinion where as Blackpool may struggle . I no its difficult to judge with it being pre season but you looked alot fitter and brighter than Blackpool . Will certainly be looking out for your results every week n I'd like to hope it could be a regular pre season fixture between the too sides for the foreseeable future
