I know this is a 32 team competition, so lots of group games to fit in. So why are they still playing games from noon when the temperatures will still be pretty challenging? Surely it's not about having wall to wall TV money? FIFA wouldn't do that would they? Stadiums are air conditioned, temperature isn’t really an issue.

I'm reading an article about it now. Simple logic makes you wonder how you can efficiently air condition such open spaces with an open roof?

Is every world cup from now on going to be centred on LGBT issues, i fkn hope not, irrespective of ones opinion im getting fed up of it, 'one love'..its embarrassing. I'm sure the media will have just as much energy for criticising the treatment of LGBT people in the USA by the time they come round to hosting it. Or not! It's funny because the culture in Qatar is so incompatible with wishy washy gesture politics. The reppression going on there is worse in some ways, but imagine the press reaction if there were homophobic shooting sprees going on there every few years like in America. Good point, basically their country their rules, not many like it but its the way it is over there, in the USA gay people are being murdered by madmen with guns.

That was fantastic, but I knew the Japanese had it in them to knock off one of the big guns. Now they’ve got to get another win or maybe a point will be enough and knock one of those guns out.

Spain looking superb but Costa Rica are so afraid of them, they are giving them way too much time & space.

Japan fully deserved it.... I wonder if Yuta would have started for them? I think he was a regular starter in the games leading up to the tournament, so I've no reason to think he wouldn't be in the team if he was fit.

Lots of fans from all countries wearing the Arab headgear and getting into the spirit of things trying to have a good time, im surprised the woke mob haven't cited it as 'racism' and 'cultural inappropriation', bet Linekars dying to.

Gutted for the lass. It's bad enough getting news like that in private, but in a studio full of people, possibly while on-air? Shit! Best wishes to Nadia and her family, not that she's likely to see this post.

Jeez oh - that’s bloody tragic for her and her family... my own thoughts and I’m sure all of The Huddersfield Town and wider football community are with her and her loved ones... - x -

NEWCASTLE told fans they CAN wear Arabic clothing in support of the new owners in a shock U-turn.
Anti-racism groups such as Kick It Out hit out heavily at the supporters who dressed in tunics and tea towels 'unless they would ordinarily wear such attire'.
To think a football club can tell you what you can and can't wear?

To think a football club can tell you what you can and can't wear? It's an odd world... Wear that attire in Britain (as a non-Arab) & you're questioned as to it being racist. Then complain at the human rights of Arabs in their own backyard about the real Arabs... It plays with the mind. As for Newcastle, I hope they go bust... (although it's the least likely club to do that) I do like the bit about 'unless you would ordinarily wear such attire'. I'm going to watch some re-runs of The Likely Lads and that film Get Carter, to see if there are many folk up there in that bracket...

To think a football club can tell you what you can and can't wear? The amount of times I've gone out New Years' Eve in fancy dress costumes that would now be considered offensive is probably beyond count. Off the top of my head I've gone out as: A vicar in fishnets and high heels (women are right, they are hell lol); Freddie Starr's thick Hitler, complete with L & R wellies: A Belsen intern with striped pyjamas and a yellow star (alongside two Jewish mates also dressed that way so don't diss me); A Bedouin warrior complete with braided hair, although not blackface; A Muslim Imam, carrying a watering can if I needed the toilet; A sexy nurse; A Native American, complete with headdress, tomahawk, etc. How many of those would I be accused of cultural appropriation or sexism nowadays, despite being a lover of history being the reason I wore most of them?

So if a Muslim goes to shake your hand with the left, it's usually meant as a diss! I only know this from being at a Muslim mate's wedding and one of his guests went to shake my hand with his left and my mate went ballistic at him.

Got me googling in my dinner hour 😁 It all dates back to a match during the winter months of the 1962/63 season. Dundee United were due to take on Albion Rovers in a Scottish Cup tie, but the weather was so bad (Worse than normal for Scotland) that the pitch was almost unplayable. The first problem was a layer of ice and snow, which had covered the pitch, but United weren’t going to let a bit of ice stop the game going ahead. So, rumors have it, that they hired a tar burner to melt the ice…but the pitch underneath still completely unplayable. That meant they had to resort to plan B….SAND and lots of it. There was so much sand spread onto the pitch that it eventually looked like a desert, with hardly any grass to be seen. Not that the makeshift pitch affected United as they sealed their passage to the next round of the competition with a 3-0 victory over Albion Rovers. Infact, the United players’ adapted so well to the desert like playing conditions that people started referring to them as ‘The Arabs’.
