I suspect I'll treat it like most tournaments... Start out watching every game (there's often more intrigue in the pool games after all ) but will get football fatigue by the first knock-out round and just watch England from then on, assuming they get through.

Just realised that Championship games restart on the same weekend as the World Cup quarter finals weekend ( December 10th/11th). Are they expecting all those Championship players to be from teams already knocked out?

I think the games in groups B, E, F, G & H are likely to be the most interesting group games to watch. But I also think it may get tedious with the amount of games. Can’t imagine what this tournament will be like for TV audiences with 48 teams in it. Football eating itself really. I considered a poll on your winning team options, but hopefully there will be another thread for that. They just ruin everything. 16 or 24 should be the maximum. Not only are half the matches irrelevant or total mismatches the qualifiers are total borefests. Less is more isn't something money men care about.

Are they expecting all those Championship players to be from teams already knocked out? Just a guess, but maybe it’s simply down to having another 8 games to squeeze in for the EFL? There will be an element of less players being involved in the tournament anyway.

Agree was so nice with just 16 teams - if you are good enough you make the cut, still allows minnows to feature. The venues should be a credible football nation too.

Do you mean it could be politically charged, they have played each other before in a world cup in 1998 which Iran won 2-1, theres a good chance both teams will play the game out in a sporting manner as an example to their leaders.

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/63482319Southgate getting pulled up. Controversy will never leave this event, even when it's a distant memory. The last paragraph says a lot in this article. "In February 2021, the Guardian said 6,500 migrant workers from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka had died in Qatar since it won its World Cup bid. The number is based on figures provided by the countries' embassies in Qatar. However, the Qatar government said the total was misleading, because not all the deaths recorded were of people working on World Cup-related projects. The government said its accident records showed that between 2014 and 2020, there were 37 deaths among labourers at World Cup stadium construction sites, only three of which were "work related".So only 3 deaths related to the WC building sites then. I'm sure that's believable... :-)

You've spelt it wrong Turdontinho. Except he's not turd anymore. One of the most improved players IMO Although he didn't exactly set a high bar at first

Another report I’ve just watched on the news. The FIFA claims for net zero, sustainably etc. being challenged.
It seems odd that they’ll promote their green credentials, but will then be increasing the competition to 48 teams.
Maybe they should consider something along the lines of what happens in the T20 cricket WC, a pre-tournament k/o comp to whittle it down to 24 or even better, 16 teams.
It’s a competition that I look forward to, but it’s possibly the most commercialised global sporting event there is nowadays. Not even sure the Olympics is in the same bracket?
FIFA are probably in with their bedfellows for this tournament, 2 corrupt organisations brushing aside any criticism or challenge that gets thrown at them.

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/63506951FIFA clearly becoming concerned that their showpiece event will be marred by controversy. Maybe they should have thought this one through when they were ‘in dialogue’ with the entrants for hosting the event? A real shame that in this instance there’s no viable alternative to FIFA that clubs and countries could defect to. I hope it is remembered as a very controversial competition and FIFA get found out.

Its a shame we have not got 11 openly gay players to send as the England team. Be even better if they won it. The above is notwithstanding my opinion that a blokes sexuality is completely his own business.🤐
