We can have 5 loan slots, or only 5 in the match day squad - unless this has increased with more substitutes. I can't see us getting to this many any time soon and even if we did we could convert this to a permanent deal as he's in his last year at Stoke. I'm sure that's the rule, not 5 loanees overall. I'm sure you can have as many as you want but only 5 in the matchday squad? Unless anything has changed since last season then I think you're right. We finished the season with six loan players (Anjorin, Smith, Knockaert, Waghorn, Hungbo and Lowton). Most of them barely played though so the five-in-a-squad rule wasn't much of an issue!

Plenty quotes from MK Dons fans at the time happy to see him go, and comments on DATM thinking he was going to be tripe because of this. Seems fairly unanimously in favour on the link I just posted. They've under-rated him but none have said he was shit.

I'm sure you can have as many as you want but only 5 in the matchday squad? Squad rules are as follows: (lifted off the EFL website) (a) in respect of Championship Clubs, 25 Players of which a minimum of 8 must be a Home Grown Player; and 44.9.2 The following Players do not need to be included in the Squad List to be eligible to play in League Matches: (a) in respect of Championship Clubs, any Under 21 Player (save for any Under 21 Player who is registered with the Club on a Temporary Loan Transfer); There's no restriction on the total number of loans into the club, only that no more than 5 can be in any matchday squad. The key point is a loan player is not considered in the exempt under 21 criteria, meaning each loan takes a spot of the 25 list. So can't infinitely loan players as there will be an upper ceiling at some point. You'd have to work out who is/isn't under 21 as to how much room we have for further loans or new signings.

They've under-rated him but none have said he was shit. That's how I remember it with Nicholls. The vast majority of Stoke fans on that board are pleased he's going and amazed it's to a champ club. They must have shaved tens of thousands from the wage bill now not to mention sell ons and fees. Sign some quality please FFS.

51 appearances for Stoke including 6 starts in the premier league. He played against us in the 1-1 draw in 2017. He is 24 , if you look at 51 apperances since he was what 17/18 when he signed his first pro contract. It isn't that much is it, they keep loaning him out Why? it seems cheap as chips therefore it will do. If our budget is that limited then , it worries the hell out of me and other fans. What you need to remember here is that Bet365 City….cough….erm, sorry, Stoke City, change their managers a heck of a lot. This also means the squad churns a fair bit as you’d expect it to and the lad maybe hasn’t had the sniff of a chance he needed. Tommy Smith was there also and he sounds like a similar player? No worries on this one for me, I think he will be a decent addition. Good feedback from Chadders too and he will know what’s what with the kid.

ooof... Well..anyone surprised? I've been saying it for a while that the money has been stripped out of the club and finally i think everyone is smelling the coffee.. Anyway it has been done to death. I'm not really worried about this signing; I hope long term we intend to go for 3 at the back and Sorba as a RWB (until Turton is back) and Headley on the other side. We were very good under Carlos with that system, people forget we won at Fulham, Forest, Boro - beat Blackburn etc etc I think this is plugging the gaps and this signing wasn't ever intended to give us a starting 11 RB; worst case until Turton is back. ... It gets conveniently swept under the carpet that we get 2.0m a year from the 16m Grant sale. Plus we're surely getting a few million a year for the 16m Billing sale? Also 3.5m this year from Camara/Coady. Also increased Championship TV money Plus the playoff run money etcc This isn't even accounting for 200m EPL money, 80m in the last few years in player sales and another 100m in the last 3 years parachute payments It's scandalous really that these big chunks get "forgotten" about. It’ll all come out in the accounts. Until then, finance talk can go in the finance thread 🤷🏼♂️

I'm neither creaming my pants nor vomiting in them.
Mixed reviews for a position we needed = I'm keeping an open mind. Both ways.

I think I'm 60% positive (not prepare's ex-persona ) 40% negative on this signing. If we didn't have a manager that excels in improving average players' output it would probably be the other way round.

There weren't any overly positive ones though. But there were positives, and you have chosen to highlight only negatives, is that correct? If so, what does it say? "i still think there is a player in him, when he burst into our team he didnt look put of place in the prem at all and then it just went downhill" Just gone back and checked. The above was the nearest thing to a positive post from the first post, on there, announcing he'd joined Town to when I posted those quotes on here. There's been a few more since but none of those are positive either. Unless your idea of positive is a lot different to mine.

Yeah, I'll admit there weren't any saying he was the reincarnation of Roberto Carlos, but there were a fair few saying he was a good prospect when he came through but injuries have fucked him. And even more that said he was a decent squad player and backup, which is what we appear to have brought him in for. Chadders seems to think it's an okay signing and he's usually been fairly even-handed when dealing with us on this board. I'm not saying I think he's going to be Tom Cowan-esque (or even Chris Billy-esque ) but I'm willing to give him a shot. Especially with King Colin's history of getting the most out of average players. So we've signed a right back on loan from stoke, as back up, and he's not as good as Roberto Carlos?? I demand a refund on my season ticket!!! Wasn't Roberto Carlos a LB, anyway 🤔

My concern is that we've used a valuable loan slot for him. This is the head scratcher for me as well. The loan takes him to the end of his contract at Stoke. Why loan instead of us just (Vaclik-esque) taking over his contract to the end of the season? Who benefits from that arrangement? everybody, stoke lose a wage we get cheap cover he gets a chance to regain his reputation. as for a loan, he may not be good enough for what we are planning for 2024/25!

Al of those benefits would come with us just taking over his contract on a 1 year permanent deal though. Only difference I can see is that it limits our loan options.

Not very well thought of at Stoke as can be clearly seen in 9 pages on their forum
We need to bring in quality as this seasons championship looks harder than i have seen it in years

We will presumably have the option to send him back in January if he hasn't done well/Turton is back/we can get somebody better or any combination of the 3. That's a huge benefit to us

"Yea shame that...good luck to him, applied himself very well for us and looked well....imho."
As I type this these are the only 2 quotes on the Tykes board.

Only a rumour, Smith from Wednesday, and certainly only a rumour. 31 now, no doubt we’d offer him 3 of our finest years on a contract Warnock is here for one season, most of our signings are going to be relatively short term as we will have a new coach within the next 9 months. And to point out , it’s a rumour, but he is a striker, tall and reasonably mobile , experienced and a typical Warnock style of player.
