He got booked at Half time on Saturday for exactly that. Says Helik on Town match report but like you pretty sure it was Hogg who was in the refs face when the card was shown......no mention at all on other media outlets, probably daydreaming? Oggy asked Helik last night and he said it was Hogg

Those putting Headley into the poor bracket I think is harsh. Even if it was a professional foul, so what. He made a mistake in that moment however before that he looked very bright bombing down that wing. He is easily one of our best prospects. Going to be a very good player is Headley. A real prospect. REG though...not a kid anymore. Not good enough to play midfield,,,not strong enough to play centre back. Shame because he had a lot of potential when he first broke through but Im not seeing a championship level player there at all. REG just seems to bumble around not doing an awful lot. He must really impress in training because from what I have seen he is very poor. I need to see the highlights again also because those berating Pat Jones I don't think I saw what they did. I remember him being closed down very quickly on a few occasions but I dont recall him doing anything poor. I'm not going to lie though, even though I was heartened by the way we kept at it last night with 10 men and a very youthful lineup, I am expecting absolutely nothing on Saturday.

Agreed. And to be honest, it's shameful that we've gone through 10 years, two Premier League seasons and 100s of millions and we still haven't replaced him with better. 'Shameful' we havent replaced a lad who's been consistently one of our best players in each of those 10 years and someone who is CLEARLY a leader on the pitch. This is 'shameful' to you? Im amazed those responsible can live with themselves with so much shame hanging over them. Yup, that's what I said, SHAMEFUL. A proper leader wouldn't spend so much time bollocking young players for his own mistakes, which is what Hogg does time and time again. Compare that to Peter Clarke, who was a proper leader and a fine captain.

Only briefly glanced at the board but pretty much confirmed my suspicions that it’s predominantly negative - the squad is crap and we need new signings blah blah blah. As somebody who was actually at the game, I witnessed mostly young, hungry young lads giving it their all, and whilst mistakes were made, I thought the majority showed a lot of potential. Our desperate need for strikers to solve all our problems and yet both Harratt and Hudlin took their chances well and Austerfield impressed me with his positional awareness, calmness in possession and all round energy, as well as creating Harrats goal. Spencer had a very good 2nd half and Headley looked very promising until his rush of blood. I don’t want to criticise any of them as they faced a Boro team who only made 5 changes from Saturday and it looked to me that certainly 2 or possibly all 3 goals were deflected in. The clown that had a go at Maxwell on here wants a good shaking. They never stopped trying and I didn’t see one head drop even in the late stages at 1-3 down. Pat Jones only had 1 opportunity and delivered a great ball for Hudlin and yet an earlier poster slaughtered him as well. No doubt I will get hammered for this naive and rose tinted post but the bed wetters on here need to actually get to the stadium and try supporting the club for a change. Rant over…..

I'd say he's a victim of expectations; people expect him to do something single-handed to change games and, as exciting a prospect as he is, he's not going to do that every single time.

For those that went. Did any of ours kick up a fuss at the ref for the tackle on Jackson only being a yellow or the lads next foul where he only got another warning or the treatment dished out to Diarra ? Every other team seems to, except us. Hogg will bollock anyone in the same coloured shirt but never gets in the refs ear, the other "leaders" we have are the same. Either too nice or too soft. He got booked at Half time on Saturday for exactly that. Not according to the BBC he didn't, they don't have any yellows for us.

I'm not gonna pretend he was good or even average yesterday, but the international cap is leading our fans to expect more from him, when he was called up prematurely by a coach who made a series of poor decisions as NI manager. I can't think of many full backs who were already good enough at 19.

That said, some of these lads have to develop quicker to make it - we see some of our squad as young but REG - 24, Phillips - 23, High - 22, Austerfield and Harratt both - 21. That's not particularly young when you look at Archie Gray at Leeds is 17, Drammeh 21 and he was a regular at Luton last year and the fullback who has just gone from Soton to Newcastle is only 21 also. I know some folks will say they are the exceptions, but i'm not sure they are right now. They need to follow the blueprint O'Brien showed and excel lower down to progress continually.

Mostly agree with that, however the Pat Jones fan club do need to take their rose tinted specs off. He's a million miles away from championship ready. An absolute fairy, if you can say that nowadays. He had several opportunities to do 'something', maybe not in the Boro box, but other areas of the pitch, and he did nothing but dodge tackles and hoof a fortuitous ball into the box that Hudlin deserved great credit for getting his head on.

A question I was discussing with my pal at the game last night is how many of those “youngsters” if we released them, would get picked up by a championship team? Not many at all. I like Headley but defensively he’s poor, same with Spencer. I don’t want to criticise them, it’s not their fault as a lot of them should be out on loan getting more experience. But I feel like a lot of fans have rose tinted specs on when looking at this crop of players which, frankly, will not cut it week in week out at championship level. It’s piss poor that we don’t have the privilege of being able to loan these players out.

Excluding Maxwell great team effort and alot of positives What did Maxwell do wrong? Wasn't at fault for any of the goals against, only criticism for me would be his distribution, but we had a man short for most of the game. He's not a big lad for a keeper, but that didn't do Steve Francis or Jorge Campos any harm. Nicholls can probably rest easy though. Agree but he seemed slow off the mark when coming out, they nearly scored in 2nd half guess I just like nichols

It’s funny how many people have criticised the club’s small-time mentality yet seem happy enough with the two defeats so far and have written off Saturday because we can’t compete with the likes of Leicester. Maybe that’s the best way to be and get the blood pressure down?! 🤷🏻♂️

Compare that to Peter Clarke, who was a proper leader and a fine captain. He doesnt though does he. He bollocks players when they let their standards drop. Not just young players but all of them. Sometimes he might not complete a pass because the other player didnt put the effort in to move into space. So he lets them know that and some just see him bollocking someone for his mistake. They dont really understand whats going on. One to keep alongside 'never passes it forwards' and 'always gets sent off " in the nonsense written about Hogg files. Clarke was a fine captain but Hoggs a great one. We didnt miss Clarkes leadership on the pitch when he was out anywhere near as much as we miss Hoggs when he is. But your use of 'shameful' is embarrassing. Not just because its wrong on any level, but its such a 'drama queen' word to use in that context.

Just not sure why Maxwell is the one player you singled out. If you're going to criticise any of the team from yesterday surely it's Headley? You can "take one for the team" in the 87th minute, not the 11th.

Seriously though, no one doubts we need experienced reinforcements and I’m certainly not suggesting the players last night will keep us up, but they do deserve credit in my opinion for a spirited showing and giving their absolute best, even if that best isn’t (as yet) Championship standard. Some of them though, on last nights showing will be Championship standard if given the chance and Harratt, Hudlin and Austerfield should get more starts.

Secondly, and this point is proven every season - Hogg is considered to be vitally important to our team - this applies to every manager that has worked with him throughout his career. I often smile to myself when I read the amount of posts pointing out how much he is missed when out injured. He’s still an inspirational character and calls out players young and old when required.

Standards do need to be maintained, but he goes way overboard with younger players and usually when it's his own fault.

Yes he was well liked because as well has being a good centre half he was committed to the cause, of course we'll never know but you'd imagine he'd have fitted very well into a Warnock team.
