I’ll never forget Bradford in the chicken shed in ‘99 and Robbie-fucking-Blake, even though I was only 12. It was the return fixture having being beat at home 1-2. The 2-3 win was sweet as fuck, especially considering I’d been spat on by four grown men on the way to the ground and they were flying and chasing automatic promotion so close to the end of the season. And they’d beaten us to the signing of Windass. What a day that was. Honourable mention to Lincoln City on the playoffs. I literally fell off my seat that night when Edwards scored. Bradford away, back then, was pretty hairy. Some little twat ran up and hoofed my dad square in the shin after the Iain Dunn FA Cup game in 1992(?). The walk back to the Interchange was pretty interesting too 😁 Great game this, Ian Dunn with his glancing header of his bald head. Was in that bus shelter down the side for this one, Midland Road stand, awful view. One Bradford game we'd been in that stand behind the goal, we got outside and this lad offered us out, he must have been feeling brave with the police there, anyway the police officer on a horse must have heard him, bent down and grabbed him and told him to 'fuck off'.

It pains me to say it but they looked good that day and should have been out of sight at half time. A sweet, sweet victory in the end though.

this is one of the best threads, because it has nostalgic details that make me happy and has no moaning,
Northampton away 2001. Boothy hattrick and low pre-match expectations. Northampton steward came onto the coach and said, lads, no invading the pitch if your team scores - leave that shit to Cardiff fans. Cue lot's of "we'll be more likely to fall off our seats in shock" type comments. 3-0 and even their stadium lights tripping out couldn't ruin the night.

Banks scored a beauty in our end when it was a small terrace behind that goal. Brilliant night in an utter shite season

Obviously I’ve been sort of new to this favourite game (live attendance) anyway and since 2010, I have to say that Town staying up v Sheffield United on 4th May 2023 was special for me which of course is very recent indeed and I’d have to put that up on my very pinnacle of live game attendance favourites, but strangely right up there just behind was a match in which Town were DEFEATED ! Now the reason for this is because finally after 30 years of supporting HTAFC, I had got to see Town in the flesh and live ! - Ok we lost 0-1 to Exeter City, hit the bar three times but a lifetime ambition could be erased from ma bucket list...
If I may select a favourite match that I haven’t attended, well clearly there are plenty over a 43 year period for me to pick from, one might say Reading at Wembley in 2017 or Sheffield United at Wembley in 2012, but no, this would be from sitting on a footstool in front of our old black & white TV in the lounge of our old house from 1980 of 9,Burnside, Bruichladdich, Islay and the Grandstand videoprinter with the wee white star pinging out - *Huddersfield Town 2 v Heartlepool United 1 (Huddersfield are Division 4 Champions) !
Wow, just wow ! - How lovely it’d be to brag to the Forest glory hunters at that dump Port Charlotte Primary School on the Monday that my team were CHAMPIONS 🏆as well as theirs (even if it was Division 4 and not The Champions of Europe) ! 😊 😊
Nice memories from back then, out playing footy as the happiest young lad in Scotland, in as the old ones partied in the house, but happy with programmes like 3-2-1, Dallas, Hammer House of Horror then (How many D’s in Match of the Day) 🎵 DDDD DDDDD DD DD DD 🎵 It’s amazing being a Huddy Town fan and what they’ve brought to ma life !!! 😊 ⚽️ 👍

Lol. Not sure about that. I was right behind the shot though. Smashed it in from the edge of the box into roof of the net. 16 mins onwards 👍🏻 Wow. Thanks for that. Ruined my recollection of the goal. Scuffed into the bottom corner 😂😂😂 Edit:- Sat here at work laughing at myself. How could my memory of that be so far from the reality. Guess it was the highlight of the worst season i can remember and in my mind i wanted it to be a beauty. I stopped going after that season and went playing open aged football instead with the works team.

The only time I went to VP before the 2 tier stand was built was '91, I think. Might've been the game just after Judas Stapleton became their player manager and Iwan snapped him straight from kick off. I seemed to remember it being a big terrace behind the goal, it looks tiny on that. Went in the chicken run down the side a couple of times after that too.

Some brilliant memories as always with these threads. In my head I always think of two types of favourite; ones that were just great to watch (7-1 Palace/Port Vale, 6-0 away at Stockport, etc.) & ones that were nightmares to watch but great after, which live longer in the memory. I remember saying I should quit watching football after our injury time winner at Elland Road in 2008 for example. Hillsborough in the play-offs, York in 2004 because it's the last time I can really remember standing on a packed terrace that was going absolutely ballistic.
I can't believe though that we've got 5 pages in & no mention of Charlton away in 1981.

Aye - I think I’ve maybe got confused with when we got promoted v Newport County a few seasons later - Hopefully I’ve got this one correct ! 😊 I also seem to vaguely recall (I’m sure that I haven’t dreampt this) Newport County playing in EUROPE on Harry Carpenters old programme Sportsnight on BBC on a muddy pitch v a German team called something like Carl Zeiss Jana and far on in the competition... Just seems weird Newport County in Europe !

Ah cheers mosher - that’ll be why - and come to think of it, it would indeed have been the now defunct ‘Cup Winners Cup’ Maybe I’m just old school, but how I dearly wish it could go back to these three knockout competitions that gave ‘minnows’ like Newport County a good run at it and provincial clubs like Notts Forest and Ipswich Town actually triumphing in Europe... It’ll never happen of course but it was exciting memories listening to Alan Green commenting on AZ67 Alkmar v Ipswich Town in The UEFA cup final on Radio 2 on an old grainy radio and watching Notts Forest triumphing live on Ulster TV in these European Cup Finals, where’s nowadays I hardly watch a ‘Champions’ (Newcastle) ? League game !

Just seems weird Newport County in Europe ! I lived in S. Wales for a couple of years (86-88) & the Welsh Cup was quite a big deal for Welsh sides as it put them straight into the Cup Winners Cup draw. My favourite team down there was Merthyr Tydfil who looked at one time like they might get into the league as automatic promotion was introduced around then. They had Bob Latchford as player manager & a lad called Dai Webley who I remember thinking should have been playing at a far higher level. In 1987 they beat Newport at Ninian Park in the final. I was in Cardiff city centre that day & remember Merthyr & Newport fans at each other in the bus station with some Cardiff fans joining in for good measure.

Too many great games to chose from
But I will always remember being packed behind the goals at gigg Lane Bury in 1991...we went 4 nil down and in the second half scored a Last minute equaliser,,I think roberts or Starbuck got the equaliser and the place went wild
Bury 4 Town 4

A lot of the above but a random game I often think about was Crewe away probably mid 70’s in the dark days. Either Boxing Day or New Year’s Day. Can’t remember the score, but went on the train in the days when you had to change at stalybridge and Stockport. Just a great day out with mates and loads of ale. Also the Bradford promotion game in 83 we only had half the Kop. It was split down the middle with a sort of ramshackle chicken🤣wire fence. So much stuff chucked back and forth that day, very nasty. A low wall collapsed on the way out at midland road side due to the crush, could easily have been a heysel like scenario.UTT
