Nicholls, Helik, Rudoni, Spencer and Sorba would have plenty of interest in the summer. We'd probably get a fee for Healey but we'd take a hit. Koroma and Headley should bring in smaller fees aswell. Can't see anyone taking a risk on Wiles, he's not managed to get himself fit all season despite being available for most of it. Think Radulovic would stay, unsure on Balker. We’ll keep some surprising players. We’re not in a must-sell position, and any fees we get will be substantial. Nicholls I suspect will stay. I think Rudoni might. Healey, Koroma and Headley will too. Wiles will still be here. Balker will too - the Dutch second tier is not dissimilar to League One, and he’s only just joined. Needs to prove himself, as does Radulovic. Spencer would also be best off staying, for regular football. This isn’t 2001. We won’t see the low-price fire-sale of the Vaesens, Luckettis and so on. I think Sorba will want out. Rudoni will attract interest but unsure if he'll go. Beyond that, I agree. Teams don't really have fire sales when they get relegated anymore, and the league is a lot stronger than last time we were there, meaning it's also harder to get out of.

As much as I like Turton, you have to play Spencer in his position. He HAS to be first choice right back, maybe Turton could play RCB. or left back as a proper left back so to speak. In terms of just defending to keep one side of the pitch water tight ? Sorry, not sure what you’re asking… But to clarify, Spencer is our hottest prospect and for him to develop properly, he needs to be starting in his actual position.

No idea why people think Balker will be going anywhere. He’s 4 months into a 3.5 year deal and has played about 5 championship games. He’s looked good but who’s buying him with that record!
Helik, Sorba and Rudoni are the obvious ones plus Spencer if someone fancies the punt, although a season in L1 would do him no harm at all. After that it will be difficult shift any of them.

Turton could be the defensive full back, to lock down a side of the pitch , to allow spencer and his winger to do the attacking / well more of it.

Half of them won't be here and the other half won't be great in League One. Some won’t be here, but to say half ‘won’t be great in League One’ is madness. Wiles, Rudoni, Ruffels, Kasumu, Pearson, Maxwell have all been outstanding performers at that level in the recent past. This team is anything but outstanding. Rudoni is the only one in that list with any quality whatsoever.

Agree, players like that who have been in league one before, mixed with fresh youngsters and some of our Jan signings, should make for a good squad. Hopefully we can shift our mindset in the summer to a winning one too.

We seem to lose far too easily. Also the "we should win, or we feel like we should be winning games" kind of mentaility seems to have gone . The complete collapses says as much this season inparticular.

Nicholls Turton Lees Balker Spencer (New winger) Wiles Rudoni Koroma Radulovic Healey Subs: Ward, Pearson, Ruffles, Maxwell, Jones Assuming all the above are with us, I don't think this is a terrible core of players in League One. Perhaps Nicholls and Rudoni might get some interest, but I don't see us being desperate to sell like under Hoyle. Add in some decent wingers, like when we had Roberts and Pilks, and I think Radulovic and Healey could thrive. As much as I like Turton, you have to play Spencer in his position. He HAS to be first choice right back, maybe Turton could play RCB. Or, we just sign a centre back to play at centre back.

dear me are you the grim reaper?!! No but can you honestly see us staying up this season. And regarding league one the last time we was there it took us 10 seasons to get out of it. It is a terrible league to get out of!!! We are in a much better place now. We had got there promoted from Div 3. 12 months prior had 6 first team players and no manager.

And that the January transfer window was one of the best ever. You mean paying a million quid for a lad who couldn’t get in at mid table Watford and who we could have had for free in the summer had we backed Warnock wasn’t good business? Backed Warnock.... here we go. Nobody wanted to come and play for him. No clubs wanted their youngsters coming to him. Realise that. Miracle worker, 100%. A Saint? Absolutely not.

The last time each of the players listed played in the third tier, they were among the best players in that division. Team of the year, goal scorers, assisters. We talk about the need for proven League One players: we have them by the bucketload. We do not have proven Championship players. We need a shift in mentality, but the core we have would be competing at the top end of League One immediately because that is the quality we have. Scrapping Championship, top end League One. Some people think that we just need to click fingers and we’ll get a whole new squad. Well that isn’t going to happen. We have to work with what we have to a point while also trying to bring in better. And looking at what we have to a point.

Until we rid ourselves of the losing mentality, and the players that have contributed to that, we're not going to do anything. Some of these players are terrible, and it doesn't matter what division they'll be playing in.

Needs to be a big clearing out of the playing staff and some investment in players too.
Too many losers and soft underbellies for me
I hated league one but we have also been to league 2 in recent years and that was a bloody brilliant season.
If we go down and get it right it could be what we need.
I do like Nagle. Think he will learn a lot from this season

Still, if we do go down, we are in a better position than when we went up from Div 3. Some of my most exciting times were in League 1. Nobody doesn't want their club to be as high up as possible, but if it means entertainment and actual excitement, it wouldn't disappoint me too much.

Much of our current squad will be with us in August whether we like it or not. Harness what we have, which is not inconsiderable in the division below, add quality in midfield in particular, in all of 6, 8, and 10 roles, add leadership, and we would be a formidable outfit.

Ha! In those days, whenever we lost, Jacko would always trot out the "when I arrived, we only had eight players" but in later years he's changed it to six! Some of my best times were in League Two and One, but so were some of my worst. However, we had some decent players for that level, including some that had stepped down and a lot of decent youngsters who all had the benefit of playing together from a young age. Plus they were local. We don't have any of that now. When we came down in 2003, we didn't keep the bunch of losers that had taken us down, Jacko had to put a new team together. In the event of us going down, Breitenreiter or whoever is the manager, should be allowed to do the same. People talk about Corberan not being backed, yet are seemingly happy about Breitenreiter not being backed (basically saying this team is fine in League One, which is absolute rubbish by the way).

It's not even close to being as strong. Look at some of the teams knocking around that division especially during the Hoyle years. The standard of football across the entire pyramid has probably relatively improved but the competition in that division in terms of club size and player names is significantly weaker. We'll have to spend money because our current squad is shot and should be cleared out - but we should certainly be able to compete if things are managed correctly (whether this can happen is my biggest concern).

Think a lot of people are a bit too over confident on here. Ask Sunderland fans, or Sheffield united fans or Portsmouth fans how easy it was to come straight back up. Ipswich as well. I'd even take a couple of years of kicking around in League One, and getting things right, if it meant we returned like Ipswich have done. I.e. ready to return to the Championship. They actually spent a bit of money and signed Championship players. Wrexham follow a similar strategy, by signing League One players this season in readiness for their eventual promotion. We haven't had a plan for years beyond signing ex players or knackered players. We need to get a strategy, and a plan, and follow it through. We now have a manager with some pedigree, make sure he stays, and then back him to the hilt. You can't expect him to do anything with the likes of Ben Jackson, Ben Wiles, David Kasumu, Danny Ward, Josh Koroma and all the rest. Clear the decks and give him what he needs. If we go down and get promoted in the next couple of years, we'll enjoy it far more than we've enjoyed anything in years.
