Pleased he’s looking to redevelop around the ground, but housing? Seriously!? Depends exactly what sort of housing. If for young people who either commute to Leeds or Manchester or work in business in town especially the new health campus and have spare cash and if there is stuff built around the ground bars restaurants etc hopefully this will bring in extra revenue. There's housing built all round places like city which a lot is new. The post someone put up re Albania stadium being used all week for various things is potentially the way forward for clubs and towns like ours. What's gone before has not really worked so we have to try a new direction of travel. Don't get me wrong kev will make a tidy sum too but if it benefits everyone then why not Hopefully housing is a small part of it, had hoped more hotel, shops, bars and restaurants etc to make the area a worthwhile destination. Housing might be a quick win I suppose and more bang for buck. Not very exciting though!

Depends how you do it the transformation of areas like around the etihad or in Manchester itself around parts of ancoats norther quarter is a mix of housing (mainly apartments) and venues ie restaurants, coffee shops, bars if we can somehow have the river integrated to make a nice waterfront type area always attracts people

We have needed this approach for the town centre much more than for some out of town development location, taking more jobs and shops away from the town centre. The town centre as identified by the ring road is far too big an area for shopping and needs developing in other ways without spreading the shopping out in to more out of town areas. We don't appear to have a plan that is looking at the best way to enhance Huddersfield as a whole, not just area by area.

KN already owns a huge Mall in Sacramento, the El Dorado Hills Town Center. So I would guess given his experience of this, they will look to create something similar although not as big. It has apartments, retail and restaurants/ bars, coffee shops

We don't appear to have a plan that is looking at the best way to enhance Huddersfield as a whole, not just area by area. The town centre thrived when folks actually lived there, but they demolished every single home and rehoused out of town. Huddersfield could be a dormitory Town for the likes of Leeds and Manchester, especially with railway connection improving. High rise luxury apartments with ground floor café,bar, restaurants, shops would help. The same applies to the JSS, you could encourage folk to live there if the quality was good and it was attractive with shops restaurants etc. Innovative modern even quirky building can be attractive,a village type atmosphere created and as said, improving the Riverside to create an ambient location. Tbh hdone had a lot of this in the original design, but sadly the time wasn't right.

Big Boy Bazza Sheerman has just ridden into Town on his free bus pass and wants his Ski Lift and free parking space for Clowncellor Brown Envelope McBride.

I work in marketing so I know nothing about housing, urban planning etc. But it seems to me that building more flats in town centres is an obvious way to regenerate town centres - more likely to buy from shops there than order things online etc.

If the intention is to revitalise the town centre it would go badly wrong if any housing was miss handled.

Anyone know what’s *actually* going on next to the railway line on Alder Street? There’s been building/construction work going on (opposite the end of Flint Street) for what feels like 2/3 years now, possibly under the guise of ‘Transpennine Upgrade’. If there was possible scope for a new passenger platform there, then any ‘yuppie’ flats would become much more desirable (assuming the suggested commercial/leisure infrastructure mentioned previously) to commuters heading to Leeds/Manchester each day. Swiss Tony could his magic wand across the Town Estate too and spruce that eyesore up whilst he’s at it. Preferably with large amounts of explosives.

Can we build a Costco down there? I'm sick of having to travel all the way to Beeston for a hotdog

It's a depot for the work, so from what I can tell on my way to work from the train window, they store building supplies, new bridges, displaced earth, rubble and rocks from other sites. It will also be the site of a temporary station, so I believe anyway, when the main Huddersfield station is closed for a refurb.
