Come off a junction earlier, set sat nav to Compos Cafe in Holmfirth. Sorted That's what I was going to suggest. It'd add perhaps 15-20 minutes to your journey time in total. Picturesque location and nicer drive, if the weather's nice.

Hello all...... Can you help? For the last 15 seasons or so I have travelled up from Chester with my brother for home games and we always stop at Reed Street Fisheries in Marsh This season is a little different as my 5 year old has his First season ticket and will often travel with us to saturday afternoon games. He LOVES his fish and chips but I'm not sure he will want to eat it off a tray in the back of the car like we normally do. Can anyone recommend a good fish and chip shop that has seating indoors and is accessible from either Junction 23 or 24 on the M62 Thanks in advance :-) Rich Just bring him a proper plate and fork. Sorted.

So I’ll be there for a while coming over from Austria on the 29th. Fam coming with, my only experience so far is Murgatroyd’s, which we loved. Is there another you’d recommend more? Found it a bit overrated and prefer the wetherby whaler myself (or Croft street in Farsley for a takeaway). If you are staying in Leeds again I’d recommend: Ox club Empire Cafe Stuzzi Tharavadu Bundobust For drinks: Whitelocks Cross Keys North Bar Below stairs Tabula rasa

Very, going Cooper Bridge way Nowadays I get picked up n we go the back way n park other side of Kilner Bank n walk over the rise I go into Mirfield then to top of Hopton and downtown Bradley lights. It's a lot easier missing cooper Bridge. 25 mins in total usually. I used to go in on the train. All the engineering work for the next few years is what persuaded me to get back on the road after ten years not driving. Cooper Bridge is slow, but it doesn't get completely gridlocked up- you just need to give yourself a bit more time. Coming from Batley, the worst bits are Heckmondwike if you go over Healey or Huddersfield Road in Dewsbury past the old fire station (depending which route you choose). Feels a bit wrong driving the "wrong way" to get on the M62 at Gildersome but it's so much quicker unless we're playing L***s. I park at Cambridge Road so coming down from Ainley Top helps there too. Another good chippy is Scarborough in Thornhill (named after the local Scarborough Arms pub... or maybe the pub is named after the chippy?) but again that doesn't help with the OP's situation. I sort of agree with those who suggest that getting the lad used to eating in the car would be a good thing, but 5 is sort of borderline whether he is quite old enough, it depends on the child. While the weather is nice a compromise could be to take a picnic blanket and sit out somewhere but that does depend on weather and having time to go somewhere that is suitable (Castle Hill maybe?). Or depending on what car you have- if it's an SUV, US-style Pickup or Estate you could adopt the habit of "tailgating" from our friends across the pond?

Find a decent restaurant and introduce him to some nice sea bass. He's 5!! Need to give him something you can squeeze pools of red gelatinous tomato ketchup on. We tried that sea bass thing with our lad, but he's 29 this week and is obsessed wi' bloody food!!

Nicest tasting fish I've found 10 times nicer than some battered cod or haddock and 10 times healthier. Sockeye salmon is up there too but I agree that I likely would have spat it back out at 5

I can’t comment on anything in Huddersfield but steer clear of the golden fish it’s terrible imo. If you ever do get stuck in a situation where they’ve pre-fried the fish for you (like they do at the golden fish) to ensure it represents a fish finger that was cooked days ago request a lightly battered fish. It usually does the trick but you have to be willing to walk away to force their hand! They went through a period of absolutely horrible food yeah definitely, but had one other day when Millbridge was shut n it was great although I had sausage not fish.

I do find it a bit pricy compared to the other local chippies, but it's opening hours are great, so deserves being given some custom from time to time IMO

Kingfisher. Just off M1 at Calder Grove gets my vote. For a county that has the best fish and chips in the world, there’s a shortage of plaices where you can sit down and eat.

Going off topic a bit, but has anyone tried Hickory's Smokehouse in Bradley Rd ( I see there's also ones in Leeds & Wakefield)? Can't recommend myself as haven't been, but could be a "homesick" option hickorys.co.uk/venue/hickorys-huddersfield/For steak pie and chips, Saville Arms at Hunsworth is well worth a try. Nice 'Olde Worlde' pub surroundings too.

I travel up from Staffordshire and often come over Holme Moss.

Barracuda in Ossett (near the top of Storrs Hill Road up from Horbury Bridge) is also good if you're out that way- again, no sitting in though. To be honest sitting in for fish & chips feels "wrong" to me, and I suspect I'm not alone hence the lack of places (sorry, plaices ) where you can. Fish & chips should be served wrapped in paper, and eaten either in the car or at home having driven like Colin McRae to get back before it goes cold.

Hillycroft in Morley is good quality but no seating area. If we are going local indian then Prashad is top quality, and Tharavadu and Dastaan in Leeds are really good as well. Wouldn't trust a local indian around the Morley area, but if anyone wants a proper curry then Bradford is the place The downside is you have to go to Bradford.
