Barracuda in Ossett (near the top of Storrs Hill Road up from Horbury Bridge) is also good if you're out that way- again, no sitting in though. To be honest sitting in for fish & chips feels "wrong" to me, and I suspect I'm not alone hence the lack of places (sorry, plaices ) where you can. Fish & chips should be served wrapped in paper, and eaten either in the car or at home having driven like Colin McRae to get back before it goes cold. Yes. Owned by the same people as the Kingfisher. Agree, they are very good with a good parking area right outside.

We tend to go to Kingfisher or green hut in lepton. Useless as an answer to the opening post however 😅
Can't find anywhere down near me that do them in dripping. One did, but stopped... grrr

So I’ll be there for a while coming over from Austria on the 29th. Fam coming with, my only experience so far is Murgatroyd’s, which we loved. Is there another you’d recommend more? If you are staying in Leeds again. Get the 110 bus (to Wakefield), get off at the stop outside Robin Hood fish and chip shop, get what you want and while it cooks just give me a ring and I’ll set the table for you (a couple of minutes walk round the corner)

Bloody hell is the Mermaid still there? Not been to Morley for yonks, but my gran used to work in there, must be 30+ years ago, best F&C ever when she worked there, especially with her employee discount Yes it's still there but whenever I have gone to Asda there is hardly anyone in there and is quite overpriced (not that it would bother are Kev). Hillycroft in Morley is good quality but no seating area. If we are going local indian then Prashad is top quality, and Tharavadu and Dastaan in Leeds are really good as well. Wouldn't trust a local indian around the Morley area, but if anyone wants a proper curry then Bradford is the place The downside is you have to go to Bradford. Mermaid was fantastic back in the day (very early 90s). Last time I went was about 10 years ago and it had become very pricy and the fish had shrunk to half of its previous size, or so it seemed. I used to like the Golden Hind in Brighouse, don't know if it's still there?

Continue to use Reed Street at Marsh and pop down to the local(5 mins away) Greenhead Park and use a picnic bench by duck pond. Swings etc close by for a journey breaker for the young lad too.

Heated seats are a wonderful extra on a car in winter time or as a hot plate to keep your parcel warm driving home from the chippy

Golden Fish at Liversedge (as per joeyjoneslocker) is pretty good, as is Millbridge just a bit further down. Although I'd say both were a lot further than 10 minutes from the ground unless he meant Liversedge FC. You can sit down in Golden Fish, not in Millbridge, but Millbridge's food is better than Golden Fish recently. Liversedge is between Huddersfield and L***s, pretty much halfway if my maths is right. Still takes 7 hours on a bus either way, even longer if cancelled!!

The earnings on it in no way accounted for my 4 visits per annum followed by free and superb fish and chips.

I used to like the Golden Hind in Brighouse, don't know if it's still there? I agree it's pricier than your average take away chippy, but it's comparable with Murgatroyds which he says he enjoyed, and lets face it, if you're on holiday you want to eat in pleasant surroundings - both are still good value compared with with other City restaurants. As for the OP, as already said, bring a plate & some cutlery until you can train the lad to eat fish & chips proper. PS I'm a Bit's person myself, Does anyone know if Bit's v Scraps has regional connotations? never been able to figure it out myself - always seemed a bit random. Had a chat with the owner of Skippers in Clecky once (another excellent chippy), and he said it's about 50/50, but with no rationale as to why some are Bits and others Scraps. PPS mosher. Lived down South most of my life, and never came across a chippy where either were available

Going off topic a bit, but has anyone tried Hickory's Smokehouse in Bradley Rd ( I see there's also ones in Leeds & Wakefield)? Can't recommend myself as haven't been, but could be a "homesick" option hickorys.co.uk/venue/hickorys-huddersfield/For steak pie and chips, Saville Arms at Hunsworth is well worth a try. Nice 'Olde Worlde' pub surroundings too. My mate gave it a good recommendation and he knocks up some fantastic meats on his own smoker so should be a safe bet.

I can’t comment on anything in Huddersfield but steer clear of the golden fish it’s terrible imo. If you ever do get stuck in a situation where they’ve pre-fried the fish for you (like they do at the golden fish) to ensure it represents a fish finger that was cooked days ago request a lightly battered fish. It usually does the trick but you have to be willing to walk away to force their hand! Never had a problem with Golden Fish for quality (though I prefer Millbridge and The Shears). I do find it a bit pricy compared to the other local chippies, but it's opening hours are great, so deserves being given some custom from time to time IMO Fair enough if you and Mosh are giving it a recent thumbs up as I’ve not been in over a year, I’ve not had fish and chips local since been blown away by the standard in Whitby.

Golden Hind in Briggus is superb, Blakeleys is hit n miss IMO. The best around for me is Lindley Fish bar, no seating though

Outlane chippy . Fish , chips(crinkle cut) and mushy peas on a tray , lashings of crispy bits too . A cup of tea to wash it all down . You can sit outside , but there's nowt better than I five minute drive over the motorway bridge and upto Scape . Pull onto the grass verge and enjoy the tastiest fish and chips ever with probably one of the best views of Huddersfield and surrounding districts there is.. Done it loads of times , and it never lets me down.

Fish and chips, the frying pan in the beast market takes me back, wonderful memories of waiting for the fish and chips being pulled down by a trolley on ropes.
Fish and chips that will never be beaten, especially on the way home after a load of booze at Johnny's.
