no mate , they are two different chippies ......Queens Drive is just off the M1 at J40 heading in to Ossett , has a restaurant and fish and chips are very good. Barracuda is Ossett but is just a takeaway....however same owner that owns Kingfisher Durkar that is also excellent and has a restaurant. Yeah, I mentioned both of those earlier in the thread, hadn't realised they were owned by the same bloke though. Males sense that they are, as they're both great. I did describe the Kingfisher as being in Calder Grove rather than Durkar though- i thought it only became Durkar on the Wakey side of the motorway! Now that you mention it, I do recognise the road name Queens Drive, was just having a brain-fart. Never tried that chippy though, I'll have to give it a try sometime. Been living in Batley ten years now and still haven't found a chippy nearby that holds a torch to the Barracuda. There used to be two in the town centre, both OK but nothing special- one of them has now closed leaving just Howies which as I said is nothing to write home about. haha tbf I thin your right as it is Calder Grove but lots of us call it Durkar ......Queens Drive is excellent but seriously Grumpy Fryer In Middletown (takeaway only) is superb

Used to go to the Cove in Otley when the kids were small and they were very, very decent! Yes, it's nice to have decent kids. I wish I knew. Mine are wankers.

Scraps all day long in Keighley, but we also have scones (fish cakes) But how do you say it? Definitely scones, not scoooones, & definitely salt first, then vinegar

Hello all...... Can you help? For the last 15 seasons or so I have travelled up from Chester with my brother for home games and we always stop at Reed Street Fisheries in Marsh This season is a little different as my 5 year old has his First season ticket and will often travel with us to saturday afternoon games. He LOVES his fish and chips but I'm not sure he will want to eat it off a tray in the back of the car like we normally do. Can anyone recommend a good fish and chip shop that has seating indoors and is accessible from either Junction 23 or 24 on the M62 Thanks in advance :-) Rich Come off at junction 23 , Outlane . Once you've negotiated the 720 deg super circle , proceed to the roundabout and come back on yourself to drive parallel aside the motorway for about half a mile , it's on the left hand side . Honestly , Outlane chippy is awesome and you won't be disappointed . Like I said in an earlier post , there is a sitting area outside (weather permitting) . Or also like I said earlier , drive upto Scapegoat hill and admire the stunning views..

Beef dripping and a fair bit of grease but top notch.

Edit: Jesus I've just worked it out and it's OVER 20 years since I lived in Batley

Going off topic a bit, but has anyone tried Hickory's Smokehouse in Bradley Rd ( I see there's also ones in Leeds & Wakefield)? Can't recommend myself as haven't been, but could be a "homesick" option hickorys.co.uk/venue/hickorys-huddersfield/For steak pie and chips, Saville Arms at Hunsworth is well worth a try. Nice 'Olde Worlde' pub surroundings too. I've only been to the Hickory's in Chester but that was absolutely great, would definitely recommend it.

Thanks for reminding me what it was called though. Think they'd stopped using proper beef dripping a while back though.

As loads have said there are lots of great chippies (personal favourite is Haywood's at linthwaite or Frair Tucks at Hipperholme) but if you really want a sit in the best one near to the ground is The golden Hind in Brighouse (think it's slightly better than Blakelys) which is across the road.
Not too far from town ground (15 mins on a normal day) and that direction doesn't get as bad traffic as what Leeds road does.

Blakeleys in Brighouse is simply the best around here imo. They have a seated area inside and out and if the weather is good, there’s loads of room by the canal. I actually prefer the ģolden hind. Call in there quite often on a Saturday lunchtime my way over from York. But both good and Easy parking outside their doors also

I call at the green hut up Lepton quite a bit . Fantastic fish and chips at a very reasonable price . But one thing that narks me more than owt is when you order "fish and chips with bits please" "Was that fish and chips" "Yes with bits please" "Have you put bits on" "Oh sorry , did you want bits" ? FFS , the number of times I've got home , unwrapped em , and there's not a bit to be seen.. It's akin to having sausage , egg , chips and beans , minus the beans..

Here's my two penn'orth on this popular topic.
The wife insists that Kingfisher at Calder Grove is every bit as good as any in Whitby. We had some on Sunday and they were superb. The chips aren't as pale as they once were - dripping? and the Haddock is always good, the Yorkshire caviar were seasoned and tasty.
Haddock every time over cod for me - cod is tasteless wherever I have it.
The Magpie isn't even the best chippy in Whitby, it's more of an occasion to go there and strictly for the gronks, the locals go to The Royal on Baxtergate to sit down and Silver Street or Riverside for takeaway. Honourable mention for Hadleys over the Bridge and Trenchers is always good but pricey. Haddock is always skin on but can be taken off.
Denby Dale chip'ole is my local takeaway these days - its always haddock and its a generous portion, the only problem is that he's a bloody Leeds fan.

Bloody hell, that should be on the Obsolete Phrases thread, I've not heard that for donkeys, that's what my Granddad always used to call mushy peas (pronounced "pays")

Thanks Everyone - I didn't expect such a big response and some great suggestions
I think my usual Reed St and a park bench in Greenhead Park is a great idea on a sunny day (thanks to whoever suggested that)
Will also give Sharkeys a go seeing as its so close to where we park
Outlane and Compos both look a good idea for a stop along the way as well
Can't wait for the Stevenage game, don't care about the result - just want my lad to love the day out and enjoy his chippy lunch :-)

Can’t remember what the fish shop was called but there was a good one in Whitby on the top of the Hill (on the way to Sandsend) not far from the football ground.

Whilst it’s true that Whitby locals like Silver Street fisheries for a takeaway, the Magpie is consistently the best restaurant. After saying that, don’t think you’ll have any bad fish and chips anywhere in Whitby.
